Mia Farrow Comments on Suicide of Son Thaddeus Farrow, 27

State police said Thaddeus Farrow was found in a vehicle Wednesday in Roxbury, Connecticut, suffering from a "life-threatening injury."

ROXBURY, CT — Actress and activist Mia Farrow issued a statement on her Twitter page Thursday about the death of her son, Thaddeus Wilk Farrow, who committed suicide on Wednesday.

Thaddeus Farrow shot himself once in the torso and was discovered in his car on Route 67 in Roxbury, Connecticut, at about 12:45 p.m., reported the Danbury News-Times. He was pronounced dead at 2:30 p.m. at Danbury Hospital.

Mia Farrow said the family is devastated by the loss of Thaddeus, who she referred to as a "wonderful, courageous" person who overcame a lot of hardships during his life.

State police initially said he was found suffering from a "life-threatening injury" and stressed that "no criminal aspect" was involved. An autopsy was performed on Thursday, but the official results have not yet been released.

"Yes, [the cause of death] is gunshot wound of torso, manner is suicide," wrote a spokesperson in the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in an email to Patch on Thursday.

State police spokeswoman Kelly Grant said Troop A responded at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday to a reported medical assistance along Route 67 just north of Carriage Lane in Roxbury. Upon arrival, the male victim was found inside the vehicle "suffering from a life-threatening injury."

Thaddeus Farrow lived in Torrington, Connecticut; Mia Farrow, 71, lives in nearby Bridgewater, Connecticut.

In an email to Patch Thursday morning, Grant reiterated that state police were not releasing additional information at that time.

TMZ reports that Thaddeus Farrow was paraplegic and was adopted by Mia Farrow in 1994. The adoption came after her relationship with Woody Allen ended.

The Hartford Courant cites police sources as confirming Thaddeus Farrow was Mia Farrow's son.

Mia Farrow adopted Thaddeus while he was living in an orphanage in India where he contracted polio, but his health had improved and he was able to get around with leg braces, the New York Post reported in a 2000 story.

Mia Farrow told the Post she was working to raise awareness about polio and the devastating effects it has on its victims.

“I perhaps am more motivated than most people because I had polio myself and it was a real struggle to come through it, and what I saw will never leave me – in the hospitals and in the public wards for contagious diseases,” Farrow told the New York Post.

“Perhaps even more so because I have a son ... who is paralyzed from the waist down because of polio. This is a terrible disease, and he has a lot of difficulty just getting through the day. I would love to see the end of polio, where no more children have this," Farrow said back in 2000.

The Daily Mail reports that Thaddeus is the third of Mia Farrow's 10 adopted children to pass away; the others were Tam Farrow in 2000 and Lark Previn in 2008. Thaddeus' middle name of Wilk is from the last name of the judge who presided over Mia's court case against Allen, according to the publication.

Mia Farrow is known for her roles in famous films "Rosemary's Baby" and "The Great Gatsby," according to Biogrphapy.com. She was once married to Frank Sinatra.

In 2013, Thaddeus Farrow worked as a car mechanic and at the time wanted to become a police officer, Vanity Fair reported.
