This one has been a long time coming—not only has it been over three decades since the original came out in theaters, but this sequel directed by Craig Brewer was also originally supposed to release last summer, until the coronavirus shut down movie theaters across the world.

Coming 2 America will be streaming exclusively on Amazon Prime Video for Amazon Prime subscribers around the world. Previously the film had been set to release in theaters, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Paramount Pictures sold the film to Amazon for a digital release.
WHAT IS THE COMING 2 AMERICA PLOT ABOUT?
Coming 2 America follows Prince Akeem Joffer (Eddie Murphy)—who is soon to become the king of the fictional African nation of Zamunda—on yet another adventure in Queens, New York City. This time around, it’s because of a long-lost son he never knew he had, Lavelle (Jermaine Fowler). Akeem and his BFF Semmi (Arsenio Hall) head off for America, again.
