Your experience in Prague will never be complete if you do not see it from the top. Hillsides, stretched from the west to the north, provide spectacular views of greenish copper cupolas, narrow cobblestone streets, bridges connecting both river banks and green gardens from red-roof tops of centuries-old houses. Prague pulls you into its 1300 year old history. Walking up the hill or stairs to Prague Castle, the historical seat of Czech rulers and the majestic Saint Vitus Cathedral can leave you speechless (and out of breath). Luckily, plenty of terrace cafés overlooking gardens and beautiful parks are available to provide rest and a place to catch your breath again.

- Jay BFairhope, Alabama1,058 contributionsAmazing CathedralIf you make your way towards the Prague Castle, be sure and spend some time to visit this wonderful cathedral. It is simply an architectural wonder inside and out. It can be very busy at peak times so plan accordingly. A great photo op!Visited October 2022Traveled as a coupleWritten May 3, 2023
- Jon DBristol, United Kingdom274 contributionsWonderful cathedral.Stopped here from the hop on, hop off bus tour and strolled into the grounds which are grand and thought we were entering the castle grounds. Followed everyone else and ended up inside the cathedral. It’s a magnificent building and a work of art. Well worth a visit and didn’t even find the castle!Visited April 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten May 5, 2023
- Harry23 contributionsStairs - tell people they are nearly there when barely up.Stairs and stairs and stairs and stairs. Only went up the tower but it’s definitely worth it. Walk on the inside of the spiral when going up and outside when going down. Also make sure to tell people they are almost up when they are barely up for more fun.Visited May 2023Traveled with friendsWritten May 27, 2023
- Ava D4 contributionsBeautiful experienceThis was my first time visiting a cathedral and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The building and surrounding areas were beautiful and there were several attractions nearby. The lines weren’t terrible on a Monday afternoon either.Visited May 2023Traveled with friendsWritten June 8, 2023
- Nooch21Akron, Ohio92 contributionsAmazing architectureMy family of 3 visited Prague for a few days and visiting the cathedral was on top of our list. The view alone is breathtaking. We’re history buffs so we loved every second of our tour. I would highly recommend a visit if your planning a trip to Prague!Visited October 2022Traveled with familyWritten June 23, 2023
- SteamMasterJacksonville, Florida116 contributionsMust See CastleIt was very nice, it’s free ! Absolutely beautiful. The history is rich and it only really takes about and hour to see, maybe 2. Bring crowns and euros as the bathroom costs money. It can’t all be free ! I would go again for sure. The pic is a view of the castle from our bedroom balcony.Visited June 2023Written June 24, 2023
- JJJC_Family810 contributionsTop notchIt has pretty much everything you would want to see in a cathedral – soaring ceilings, plentiful and beautiful stained glass windows, lovely and distinctive chapels, wonderful statues, a couple of unique features that add a little extra character and more. The overall effect is almost overwhelming. And it is overwhelming. We took three complete circuits of the cathedral and I guarantee you we both did not catch all there was to see and we did not spend enough time seeing what we did see. There is only so much time we had available, despite allocating the entire day to the Castle complex. It’s one of the best cathedrals we have and we have seen many, many of them. It earns its fame.Visited May 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten July 1, 2023
- Lucas M25 contributionsUnforgettable ExperienceThe St. Vitus Cathedral really leaves an astonishing feeling when you enter the church. As the largest and most important church in Prague it's no doubt that the experience we had there could never be forgotten anytime soon. My fiancé already told me we should visit Prague again next year!Visited June 2023Written July 18, 2023
- Ryan HMiddleton, Wisconsin22 contributionsBeautiful site, multiple tickets requiredCathedral was beautiful however you will need to purchase several different tickets in order to view all the sites. The cathedral tower for example is not included with the cathedral entrance ticket. We also were unable to view the crypt with the royals as we were told that had to be scheduled in advance.Visited July 2023Traveled with friendsWritten July 26, 2023
- LutheranLadySanDiego1,442 contributionsGothic GloryOne of the lovelier gothic cathedrals we have visited. Certainly others are grander in size, but the stained glass windows rival and exceed in beauty any we've seen. Mucha window was spectacular!Visited July 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten August 10, 2023

This Cathedral was the second most beautiful cathedral in Prague. However I would strongly recommend to have a guide or an audio guide while visiting this place, or else you will clueless with everything around.
We did not carry any guide with us and that is why we couldnt appreciate the cathedral much.

The cathedral opens at 9:00 a.m. I arrived at the Prague Castle at about 7:45 a.m. and was allowed onto the grounds. Beautiful and quiet in the early morning. The cathedral is stunning especially the stained glass windows - there is one by Alphonse Mucha. Suggest you be there at 9:00 a.m. when the ticket office opens and when the cathedral opens to avoid the crowds and be able to walk and view the cathedral freely. Great photos before the masses arrive.

Unusually lesser crowd( thanks to the changing of the guard at the Castle at the same time!). Nice tempo and space giving an opportunity for the pictures, enjoyable study of the objects. Since benches are cordoned off, there is no chance to contemplate while looking at the art around. Still worthy of the ticket price (planB- CK 250, valid for 2 days).

It’s a must do in Prague! Make sure to come 5-10 min. (in winter) and 20-30 min. (in peak season) to an hour to take the best position to watch. Or you can combine it with illusions museum, which is right opposite of the Clock, so you can watch it from the window.

Even those people like me who are fed up with seeing churches whose decor is dripping with gold will like this wonderful place. It is hugely high inside and has very different stained glass windows from what you see typically. Not all are great but they are different and therefore interesting. Some are Very beautiful!

This church had its beginning in 925. However, its influence grew remarkably as a result of Charles IV since he was both King of Bohemia and the Holy Roman Emperor. In this church, they’ve crowned Kings and Queens and laid to rest several patron saints. The outside of the church is very impressive but as we walked through the bronze door into the Cathedral – we were very impressed with the interior of the church.

St Vitus Cathedral is part of the castle in Prague. It's a trek up the hill but totally worth it as the combined ticked (there are a variety of combinations) takes you into multiple parts of the castle, including the cathedral. Sadly the treasury is a further add on so we didn't see it. THe stained glass is really spectacular, and the gothic style architecture is one of the best examples in Europe. There are the usual treasures of sculpture, precious metals, paintings and carvings, it really is a worthwhile visit.

The stained glass within St Vitus Cathedral is quite possibly the best in Europe. I know that’s a big call, but we have travelled to many places and seen many cathedrals and in our opinion this is the best and should not be missed. Definitely worth the extra money to pay for you to see all of the cathedral rather than just the free parts. I could skip the rest of the castle and just spend time here, it’s spectacular.

This cathedral is part of the compound of Prague Castle. It's a very large church and kind of black on the outside. However, inside the stained glass windows let in lots of colored light. It's a beautiful church and you shouldn't miss seeing it if you are going to the castle. I believe it takes a separate ticket to see.

The primary cathedral of the Czech Republic and Bohemia is a grand Gothic church that took 600 years to complete from 1344-1929. When you start seeing Cathedrals, they start running together. However, for me this is one of the best Cathedrals in Europe for 3 reasons; 1) incredible stain glass and amazing diversity because of the different styles, 2) impressive historic connection to local saints St Wenceslaus and St. John of Nepomuk and 3) a really interesting Gothic facade the seems to glow with the sun. Again, there are a ton of Cathedrals in Europe, this is a good one to see.

Are most of the famous sites to visit very busy in June?
Diego B
Wiesbaden, Germany51 contributions
I’m thinking they will be busy in June because it’s the summer. I was there in the winter and there was a lot of people. I imagine the summer is busier. However, if you go to certain places in the morning there isn’t a lot of people yet.

Will there be a Mass on Wednesday August 21. What time? Is there a way of getting to the Church without climbing many stairs or climbing up a steep hill. We are in our 80s and don’t do stairs or steep hills very well.

Use tram No. 22 to Pohořelec and have an easy stroll down the hill. In 10 minutes you reach Hradčany square. Entrance and security check on the left side of the castle. Mass is held on weekdays at 07:00 (morning).

Buena suerte
