Without a shadow of a doubt one of the major landmarks of the city ,St Florian's Gate is probably one of the most photographed tower's in the city.
This great looking tower was constructed in 1307 ,a great example of Gothic architecture ,St Florian's Gate was once connected to the magnificent Barbican ,St Florian's Gate and the Barbican are the only two remaining structures that formed the defensive walls of the city ,during the 19th century when Austrian forces occupied the city of Krakow the other seven towers that were once part of the city defences were demolished but St Florian's Tower was spared ,the tower nowadays is a major tourist attraction and adds to the joy of walking around the Old Town and is easy to locate at the end of Ulica Florianska one of the most beautiful streets in Krakow.

This is a beautiful gate that is detailed on both sides. You will be on the tourist street after you walk through from the Barbican, so it's pretty crowded in this area. There are a lot of shops and restaurants through the gate.

Beautiful old gate in the centre of town. Worth walking by but I don't think you need to spend much time there.

This is a pretty gate but to get to it (other than walking through it) you need to buy a ticket from the Barbican just outside. This then allows you to visit the city walls and Florian Gate, including the small exhibition.
The Barbican visit is excellent and it is worth viewing the walls and gate too as there is a nice little model to show how it all originally fitted together.

Walking through this gate is quite a magical experience which is elevated by the sound of accordion you can here everywhere in the Old Town. However, the amount of tourists here at all times is worse than Prague.

St. Florian's Gate is a pretty cool Gothic tower/gate house. There are some short remnants of the old city wall you can walk along if you get an entry ticket and a barbican out front you can visit as well. The best part is really just seeing the tower from the street.

Just imagine people in the early 1300s erecting a tower like this. Stone by stone, while in the upper parts bricks were used. Part of the wider defense system of the city it was an immense effort, but people were motivated, as an attack by the Tatars in 1241 led to destruction of most of the city. They must have thought: 'that never again'.

Early 1800s the walls and towers including St. Florians had lost their functionality. The tower, barbikan and adjoining sections of the wall survived the demolition effort, thanks to an initiative by a professor. Note the Gothic style, lean and high reaching into the heavens.

The name comes from the nearby Church of St Florian and it was the main gate of the seven leading into the city situated in the line of defence walls. Moreover it was through this gate that kings would enter the city after victorious battles, it was also used for ceremonial reasons by diplomats, and famous personages visiting Kraków. Furthermore the route of royal coronation and funerary processions, led through the gate.
