The area
Neighbourhood: Malá Strana (Little Quarter)
Malá Strana is one of the oldest and the most beautiful neighbourhoods in the city. Nestled underneath Prague Castle it was once a part of the Kings route taken by future kings on their way to coronation - originating in the Old Town, crossing Charles Bridge and leading to Saint Vitus Cathedral. Cobblestone streets are lined with picturesque medieval houses, remarkable palaces, churches, kitsch shops and restaurants. Do not hesitate to turn a corner into any narrow street. You will suddenly find yourself in a calm and charming neighbourhood full of hidden gardens, parks with peacocks, fruit trees and ponds. As the neighbourhood is a home to Czech Parliament and many ministries, you can also run into well-dressed officials. If you are thirsty or hungry, it is the right place to be. Restaurants offer delicious traditional food and of course, the best Czech beers.

Of course you have to go ....
Hradcany district is an obvious place for tourists to visit as it holds so many attractions of the most significance. The most obvious is the Castle and the St.Vitus Cathedral. The St. George Basilica and the Strahov Library . The many Palaces and the beautiful gardens surrounding them. The Golden Lane. The area around the Castle is crowded and there are security lines for different attractions. I love the easily accessible Loreta Church without the crowds and the surrounding area, closer to Pohorelec. And the Rocking Horse toy store selling hand made Czech toys, nearby. This year my husband and I stayed for the first time in the Hradcany district Hotel Savoy. During the first part of our trip. That afforded us the opportunity to hang around the Hradcany area at all hours and found it most enjoyable at night when most of the tourists crowds were gone. We had discovered some new restaurants, that we enjoyed for lunch and dinner here. The views at night are spectacular. My husband and I once again visited the Lobkowitz Palace, midday concert there, as well as short break on their terrace. Changing of the Guard ceremony on another day. Walk down the Novy Svet and stop at restaurant U Raka was an afternoon well spent. The views from the Bellavista restaurant are one of the best. I love this part of Prague and hope you will too ....

The castle district with lots to see and do.
Its the Castle district which sits atop a hill overlooking Prague central. It has one of the largest castles in the world along with a host of smaller palaces and a few churches. There is a large amount of hotels / restaurants / bars and a lot of touristy stuff to see and do. You can walk up to it from the Lesser town up Nerudova st (one of the streets that will get you there) or you can catch a tram / bus up there also. When you are in Prague, its definitely an area to check out.

    Main attraction of Prague
Castle District 's one of the most beautiful areas of Prague. This district has numerous marvellous buildings, palaces and cathedrals. It is a pleasure to walk from the Old town and reach this district taking the Charles Bridge. I visited Prague during the summer and I have fantastic memories. Prague is simply beautiful.

Amazing neighborhood around and below Prague Castle; the architecture and all the colors of the buildings is stunning. Just wandering around the town and looking at all the architectural designs are worth the trip to Prague.

The city surrounding the castle area. There are nice views around outer castle area grounds. Take a stroll down the South Garden promenade. Well kept up gardens. A R and R location if you need a break from crowds, etc.

Our tour group stopped in the St. Norbert's area for some photo ops before walking down to Prague Castle. The view of Prague from the hilltop near St. Norbert's is unbeatable

Hradcany ( Castle District ) is a must go destination if you're planning a holiday to Prague ,perched atop the hilltop ,from the huge Castle complex ,this area sweeps down to Mala Strana ( Lesser Town ) .
There's so many amazing buildings here ,of course the wonderful Prague Castle ,St Vitus Cathedral ,St George's Basilica and so many other beautiful buildings ,step back in time and walk down Golden Lane ,myself I love to walk down Nerudova Street ,wonderful architecture and wonderful architectural styles such as Romanesque ,Baroque and of course Gothic ,in Hradcany are an amazing amount of cafés,pubs, bars and restaurants ,hardly surprising as this is a very busy tourist area ,all in all it's a great district of the city to check out ,it's a great area to lose yourself .

it is, to me, the most beautiful district of Prague. You can easily spend a day in this district. This is how we did this district.

1. We first took a tram from Malostranska square (Tram No. 22) to Pohorelec. You should get down at this stop even though the previous stop is also a prague castle stop. After getting down at Pohorelec, the pohorelec square will be right on your left. Right here you will see a staircase to go to the Strahov Monastery and Library. Due to shortage of time, we only saw the strahov library. You can only see the two rooms of the library from outside the room. Given that you are not allowed inside, i thought the ticket price is steep.

2. Next we went to Loreta, 5 minutes walk from Strahov. It is where a replica of santa casa is placed. In Loreta, we spent about an hour. This is also a paid attraction. If i remember it correctly, the price is 150 KC, which is worth it.

3. Once you are out of Loreta, just take the corner road going down towards Novi Svet. This small area consisting of couple of parallel roads are truly unique and peaceful amidst all the crowds of Prague. Novi svet has some old Prague buildings which are interesting.

4. After seeing Novi svet, go towards the Hradcany square, which is well marked. Once you reach Hradcany square, you will see the front gare of the Prague castle. Hradcany square also has few other palaces, which are now converted into musuems. Depending on your tastes, you can visit these musuems. We did not visit any and decided to directly go for Prague Castle.

5. I think before doing Prague castle, you should do the Strahov Library, Loreta and Novi Svet, unless you are short of time, in which case, you can directly go to Prague Castle.

6. Alternatively, from Strahov, there is a small road which connects to Petrin. If you wish to visit Petrin, you can go from there. You will have to go little up hill for this. (we went to Petrin on a different day and took the furnicular from uzehd and came down walking to Stranhov monastery)

7. Once you finish prague castle, you do not need to go back to Pohorelec. From the left side of front gate prague castle, a road goes down straight towards the charles bridge and old town. This road is called Nerodova, which also has quite a few attractions. The same are not discussed here.

all in all, most people visit Prague castle, but the entire Hradcany district is wonderful and should be explored in detail, to enjoy the uniqueness of Prague.
