On this, our third visit to Key West, we finally found the perfect spot for a Sunday breakfast or brunch. Blue Heaven, on the corner of Petronia and Thomas Streets in Old Town, served up one of the finest breakfasts we’ve had on any of...our travels. The atmosphere is total Key West, with an outdoor bar and seating area where you can wait comfortably for your table to be ready. At 9:00AM, the wait was already about 30 minutes. The place is really busy for all the right reasons. Once seated, I ordered an asparagus omelette with white cheddar cheese and Hollandaise sauce. Served with thick, homemade toast, the omelette was light, fluffy, and done to perfection. And it was loaded with asparagus. The Hollandaise was the best I’ve had anywhere. My travel partner ordered a la carte: tenderloin steak with two eggs over-easy and toast. The steak came medium, exactly as ordered, tender and juicy. His eggs were done just right. We each ordered tomato juice which was served generously. Service was friendly and unusually fast. Our total bill was just over $40.00, quite reasonable by Key West standards. A side note: We stopped back at the courtyard after our meal to sip a coffee and listen to some excellent music from a local band. While there, we decided to have our Tarot read by a lovely woman named Amy. Each of us had had this done once in the past with mediocre results, so we thought it would be “fun” to try it again. We each chose the $10.00 Basic Reading. My friend’s reading was impressively accurate in both the details of his present state of affairs and his future plans. When it was my turn, the accuracy of Amy’s interpretation of the cards I chose brought me to tears. I had told her absolutely nothing about myself, and yet, she was able to see everything that was important in my life at that moment. It was an intensely emotional experience for me. I’m really a skeptic when it comes to all of this “psychic” stuff, but I believe that Amy truly has a gift. I hope you have the opportunity to experience her art and talent for yourself.More

Blue Heaven should be on your “must dine” list when visiting Key West. We visited at 8pm on a Monday evening and had a one hour wait- it was well worth it! I tried the signature snapper dish at the suggestion of our server and...it did not disappoint. The fish was fresh and perfectly prepared and seasoned. I typically do not care for pasta with a dish, but again, at the suggestion of our server, ordered the dish as per the menu description and it was excellent, as was the cornbread. The hubby ordered a burger and he said it was also delicious and perfectly prepared. We ended our meal with a banana bread desert that was served in a bourbon sauce with ice cream and it was delicious! Loved our meal, loved the music, loved the overall ambiance and would absolutely return!More

We arrived early and sat at the bar. Very relaxing and casual outdoor atmosphere. After a 15 minute wait on a Wednesday at 7pm, we were texted that our reservation was ready. FYI, we could have been seated immediately inside or upstairs but you really...want to be outside in the courtyard. We started with the stone crab claws. We then had the red snapper in yellow pepper, mango ver blanc sauce with fingerling potatoes and sauteed squash (which was amazing, and this is after 4 previous nights in KW). We also had the macro bowl and asked to have fish (yellowfin snapper added to it). Very good. The key lime pie desert looked incredible with the 6 high layer of meringue on it but we just couldn't do it (We had tried a mini sample on a food tour on Sunday and it was incredibly good).More

Having had a pleasant experience there before, my boyfriend and I were looking forward to dining at Blue Heaven. Arriving at 7:30 pm without a reservation, we were told that a table would be available in 30 minutes. After inquiring an hour later, we were...told the wait would be 10 minutes. After 30 more minutes passed, we asked if we could just take our meals at the outside bar. We were then told that no food is served at the outside bar, and we would have to eat at the inside bar. We put in our order, but by this time, we were starving, so we asked for some cornbread to hold us over. Unfortunately, it did not come out until after we were finished with our meals. We just wished that the staff had been more honest with us about the wait time. We would have moved on and been able to enjoy more of our night in Key West. I am certain that we won’t be returning to Blue Heaven again.More

I hate to write this review as I have been coming here for many years and it remains one of the best old school spots in town. We had enjoyed New Year’s Eve here a few years ago and decided to do it again. Arrived...for our 845 reservation and ended up being seated at 930. No big problem busy night and tough to turn tables when people are stretching there table time trying to make it to midnight. Received an absolutely terrible table with no air movement, so asked to be moved , with many other tables open , to be told we have reservations . Which I in turned reminded the very stressed manager we had too and had waited patiently for the same. Begrudgingly changed tables for us. Moving on our very nice young server arrived and reviewed the pre fix menu options and we asked for some champagne glasses as we had brought a special bottle( we had called prior ant they offer corkage-very nice) Waitress returned with some red wine glasses and said they were out of champagne glasses. I asked nicely if they could wash a few and they did. I’m sure by now I am sounding like a very demanding jerk but was really just hoping to enjoy a place I have many times before, understanding New Year’s Eve is a challenge for Any restaurant. Food was very good as always, scallop appetizer great, filet better then the rib eye but all good. Was a little disappointed that 2 of the three dessert options were gone when it came time to order the final course but we were pretty full anyway. I think the $98/person is very fair for the evening and just hope the nice people at this restaurant think through the organization of a high volume evening like this a little more so that many more people will continue to enjoy the really fun and great food restaurant.More

As all of the fabulous reviews on here showcase the atmosphere is great at Blue Heaven. Tropical, laidback with live music, it had a great vibe! We went for brunch and were prepared for a bit of a wait because we knew it was popular...breakie spot in Key West! Straight to the bar we started with an order of 6 Bloody Mary's and 1 Mimosa. The Bloody Mary's were so good! Before we were done our first drink our table for 7 was ready, a pleasant surprise! We had been given the choice to sit upstairs or downstairs and since we were famished we said it didn't matter which made have expedited our wait time for seating. The band was downstairs but being outside either way the music floated up to us so were didn't go without. Our server was friendly and the food came fairly quickly. Our group had mixed reviews of their dishes, it was hit or miss. I was very disappointed about my Lobster Benedict as the lobster as my title suggest was very chewy and cold to boot. Very disappointing. By the time our server came back the rest of my friends were half done so I didn't want to send it back or order something else. The gift shop at the end was cool but pricey. With such mixed reviews on food I had to lower my rating but the decors and vibe were unique fun and definitely awesome!More

This place came up near the top of the list when we were looking for a breakfast place. On Monday morning around 10 AM the line appeared to be 45 minutes long so we turned around. Next day we were much earlier and we walked...right in. Seating is in a beautiful courtyard with awesome trees and chickens and cats running around, quite artsy fartsy. Their claim to fame is their various Benny's but if you're not into poached eggs the other menu choices are actually quite limited. If you built your own omelet each topping is pretty much 2 bucks and up so it becomes overpriced quite quickly. So we ended up with just bacon and eggs. Home made toast was excellent but overall it was a bit underwhelming for me, i had expected more. Service was ok but hardly fabulous.More

Blue Heaven is a mixture of Key West’s Bohemian Culture with it’s tropical location, a bit of history (Hemingway used to box there), great food and friendly service. Don’t mind the wait (45 minutes went by quickly) - use that time to browse the gift...shop, enjoy a drink (best Bloody Mary I’ve ever tasted), watch the roosters, and soak in the atmosphere from a seat on the porch. Once seated at your table the Banana Bread and coffee will relax you and everything on the menu will temp you (but don’t pass up the lobster Eggs Benedict!) Blue Heaven will become a must-visit each time you return to Key West!More

On our trip to Key West, we visited Blue Heaven twice! One was for breakfast. The food was fantastic. They are famous for their banana bread that comes with breakfast meals. It’s an outdoor setting, very casual with chickens walking around the area. A bluegrass...band was playing and the atmosphere and food were super. We came back another early evening around 4:30. Dinner is not served until 5:00 I think... but when we told them we were Just there to get a piece of their famous key lime pie, they said you can order that at the bar and sit in the bar area. We did that and the pie was great! It has a really high layer of meringue on top. It’s a generous slice! We loved it. There is also a little store where you can pick up souvenirs. The staff is friendly throughout! It’s a must do in Key West.More

My wife and I had a late breakfast at the Blue Heaven at the recommendation of many locals. We had never been there before, so didn't know what to expect, except that it is always busy. We had to wait 30 minutes for a table...in a very large both open to the elements and inside spaces. We decided to wait partly because we expected other restaurants to have wait lists and the environment was very interesting, with their own little store, key lime pies in a display cooler to "die for", and area for ping pong [well used while we were there waiting], a small art gallery, a guitarist playing beautiful music, and a huge outdoor bar in the center, all on the sandy dirt with roosters ruling the place. Quite "Key West" for sure. We loved it, and also loved the breakfast, with me getting the Rooster Special and my wife ordered the bacon eggs benedict. Both were terrific and the price was quite reasonable, and the coffee excellent. What a great way to begin a morning wandering the streets of Key West.More

You literally cannot go wrong stopping here for any meal of the day. The location is down a side street with plenty of bike racks available and a small spot across the street for additional bike parking and moped parking. Walking through the threshold takes...you to a quaint yet busy little paradise for foodies and those interested in an authentic Key West feel. Our first two visits over the past three years were for breakfast. We were seated rather quickly most times we went, but if there is a wait stop by the bar for a drink or check out their store. For breakfast I'd say it is probably the best benedict you'll find in Key West. Like seafood? Absolutely get the lobster benedict which is big enough to share. Two large pieces of lobster sit under bacon, tomato, poached eggs and a velvety smooth rich hollandaise sauce. A true treat and twist on a breakfast masterpiece. The lobster and grits was full of lobster sitting on top of smooth creamy perfectly cooked grits flavored with some cheddar cheese, scallions, white wine and butter. This dish is available any time of day and perfectly portioned to fill you without feeling stuffed. Lunch offerings are just as good and varied, to suit both land or sea tastes. The chicken salad was very flavorful with just enough binder and spices to not overwhelm the chicken and set atop mixed greens with a light salad dressing. The lobster grilled cheese was rich, buttery and huge. Lobster, cheese, bacon and tomato was set between texas thick buttered brioche style bread. The combination of textures and flavors made this a decadent dish, worthy of sharing due to the size. Their key lime pie is my favorite of all of KW, tall with meringue and just tart enough to harmonize with the meringue so save room. Chicken run about as you enjoy lunch so you'll likely get a great close up photo op of them. Find time to visit and enjoy some wonderful food!More

We had really hoped to have breakfast or brunch here, but the only time we had the opportunity was dinner on a Friday evening which worked out! We arrived about 5:20, party of two and were told it was about a 45 minute wait. We...gave our text information which kept us up to date on wait time. We sat at the bar and enjoyed tropical drinks and watched people until our table was ready. We started with snow crab legs, very popular, pricey but very delicious.Entrees we had were jerk chicken and bbq shrimp. Food was very good. Tried their key lime pie for dessert with the meringue topping which was very nice. We enjoyed the tropical garden setting and regretted we didn't get time to go back for a morning meal.More

Our party of 6 was seated about 15 minutes after our reservation time. Live music which was Hillbilly minus the fiddle was ok. Loud but ok. An “A” for effort. Waitress was prompt and friendly. Four of us had the filet and one was undercooked....Ordered medium to medium well and came out medium rare. Maybe there was a misunderstanding because the music was loud. One had the burger which was cooked medium well when ordered medium. Other had a Caesar salad with blackened chicken that was liked well enough. One of the filets was in the surf and turf menu item and 3 medium sized scallops was an additional $20+(I do not have the exact price/ entree was $56). For the quality and size of the scallops it was a gross dollar amount. Drinks were ok. The mixed drinks were the greatest disappointment for quantity, quality and price. When one complained about the undercooked filet, complementary desserts were offered however declined. Our party of 6 check was approximately $340 for one side salad, six entrees, and 8 beverages. Would we go again? No, probably not with all of the other quality restaurants in Key West.More

It's been a very long time since my last visit to this restaurant and the overall experience was average at best this time! I was seated right away. The bartender/waitress was friendly! I ordered the Jamaican jerk chicken ($25.00) and it took approximately 25 minutes...to receive my meal! When I got my meal it was lukewarm at best! I had to return it too have it heated up again! It came back as okay The Restaurant was not busy at that time (5:30)! The restaurant had live music and they were very good! I found the menu to be limited in choices! The menu items were pricey! I was going to order key lime pie but it was to expensive @ $9.75 per slice. I won't be returning to this restaurant again! I was disappointed with the Service!More

Absolutely love this restaurant/ “bordello” bar— the history ( former bordello, Hemingway came here to cockfights in the courtyard) — charming atmosphere seated in courtyard under a canopy of trees and sails, roosters roaming around at your feet, beautiful food and warm hospitable service (Ed...made us right at home). Totally on point! Didn't mind the hour wait for Sunday brunch because they text when table is ready, lots of cute shops to browse up and down the street—can even check progress from link in the app. Loved this place 25 years ago and it just keeps getting better! Well done!More
