While it has certainly been a minute since we last visited Key West (about 10 years), we had such a great dining experience at the Southernmost Beach Cafe, we decided to make a return visit. It was definitely not the same place; the menu was...totally different with not a lot of variety. If you did not get a fish dinner, then your only other options were apps or salads. We ended up with the octopus, avocado stuffed with tuna, conch fritters, and conch stew. Everything was salted with a very heavy hand and too spicy. Our waiter seemed very rushed like he wanted us to order, eat, and leave as soon as possible. He was waiting on the table next to us and was in such a rush he spilled all of their drinks on them. While the view was great, there were pidgeons everywhere and the staff was not doing anything to keep them out of the dining area. There were even some that had roosted in the alcoves above the dining room and had defecated on the beams which had not been cleaned up. The biggest thing was the odor when we arrived; it smelled like garbage on a hot day. It eventually went away, but that initial smell definitely lingered in the nose. You got the overall impression from the menu they are trying to be more fine dining but can't pull off the experience without properly trained staff. They should go back to what they were doing; relaxed, good American beach eatery foods and a great staff.More
