The Southernmost Inn seems to have a mixed reception among guests. While its location near Duval Street is highly praised for convenience, some visitors are let down by the perceived value, mentioning steep parking and resort fees that don't match the experience. The charm of the quaint and cozy atmosphere is acknowledged, yet there's a call for room renovations and improved housekeeping. Guests enjoy the pools and happy hour, but the noise levels and service quality receive inconsistent feedback, ranging from commendable to disappointing.

Location, location, location! One block off of Duvall on the quieter side. I’ve read some of the negative reviews and was actually quite surprised. Indeed this is not a five star hotel and could use some updates. However, our room was clean and comfortable, the staff were all friendly. Nice complimentary breakfast and a free daily wine happy hour with an assortment of snacks. The pools were refreshing. Would definitely stay here again!

While this is a great location close to Duval Street the property is very tired and very worn, difficult to even get clean towels as needed. It really needs a facelift especially for the nightly cost of over $600 for a suite. Bathroom is tiny, The chest of drawers is falling apart and there was no closet for hanging dresses etc. Room could have been cleaner and since you cannot get daily service I.e. bed made and clean towels due to the pandemic the cost was extremely high for a nightly stay. This place could be a gem if they updated everything specially the air conditioning setup which currently consists of separate wall air conditioning units which are very loud. Pillows are extremely uncomfortable (hard). I could envision this place completely renovated and it would be fabulous! I would not stay here again unless they plan on updating the entire look. Happy to give them some ideas since I am an interior decorator. All that said the limited staff was very pleasant and as helpful as they could be given all the restrictions of products and services. Also do not confuse this place with the Southern Most Resort which is across the street, they are entirely separate hotels, which we have stayed at in the past. Very nice resort!

We prefer to spend money on food and experiences and think of a place to stay as a place to sleep and booked this hotel because it was by far the cheapest option in Old Town other than a few motels. The king bed was very comfortable, the room was small but totally adequate and clean and the shower was warm and well pressurized, and the air conditioning worked very well and while it ran a little loud it also blocked out the morning rooster calls. There's a coffee machine on the first floor in the main building a short walk across the pool area away, and juice/muffins/cereal were provided in the morning. The pool area is actually quite nice, with shaded lounge chairs as well as a small and medium size pool and small hot tub. There was plenty of space to spread out and usually only 2-3 people using it at any given time. The location was VERY convenient. We flew in and took a $25 Uber from the airport and rented bikes to get around to anywhere a little farther, although you can walk to tons of places easily. Our one hiccup was that they were having technical difficulties when we arrived, so it took a little longer to check in and we actually did not have a working keycard for most of the first two days, but all of the staff we spoke with were very nice and as helpful as possible. There are amenities that weren't available during our stay because of COVID, but we honestly didn't feel like we were missing out on anything. If you're looking for a comfortable homebase with some nice features to explore Key West from rather than a more large resort style experience, this is a really nice option. And again, since I read many reviews with complaints saying "for X dollars..", I'll reiterate that this was the cheapest nicer option available when I booked - Key West lodging is just generally expensive.

DO NOT mistake this property for the Southernmost Inn Beach Resort across the street like we did. Big difference. They actually welcome their guest THERE.

The young lady at the front counter must be the daughter of the owners and don't realize how much people are unwelcomed by her. She could care less if you stay or not and the lack or service listed by several other guest is the same we received.

Besides your room rate, they also tack on a parking fee and a resort fee. But nothing about this lodging is a "resort", Yes they had 2 small pools and a jacuzzi, but they don't have towels available. When we asked for 2 towels for the pool, she actually wanted to see 2 people even though she checked us in and knew there were 2 people in the room.

This is not a B&B, far from it. Breakfast is in the reception area, not the dining area and consist of yogurt, muffin and fruit cocktail cup. No beverages. The endless coffee is a self serve machine but there are no cups out. Evening reception is bottled wine that you share, individual wrapped string cheese, bags of pretzels and Cheez-its.

There is no business center if you need a computer to print out travel/airport reservations. We arrived the week before Christmas and it seemed to be the only place in town NOT decorated for Christmas. No "Welcome", no "Thanks for staying with us". Saw the same unfriendly customer service with a couple other guest who were checked in. She was the only person on property that we saw and has no customer service skills whatsoever.

The building we stayed in was the main building, a 3 story house with very slim stairwells and no elevator. If you have a problem doing stairs or a large family with lots of luggage, stay somewhere else. Our room was a loft on the 3rd floor, we hit our heads on the ceiling several times. it was apparently the only room that could accommodate 2 men sleeping separately. The bedding were bunk beds and they were very comfortable which is why I'm giving the property an overall 2 star rating instead of 1. There was also no view as their was only a sunroof and the only natural lighting in the room. Our AC went out the day we arrived and had to have it fixed as the room was very warm without it. The fridge in the room is the small compact dorm size. The wall AC unit was bigger.

The property is located 1/2 block from Duvall Street and was easy to walk around, we ended up not evening using the rental car we got. Location is great but had we known what we were getting, we would have gladly paid more to stay somewhere else that appreciates their guest.

We found this property thru USAA and didn't check any reviews before we stayed. Will contact USAA about removing the property from their list of hotels until the hotel changes their staff.

We stayed 3 nights at the Southernmost Inn and had a very nice time! The Inn is located perfectly on Duval street and also very close to the beach. Hence, no car is needed and everything is walkable. We managed to get a parking spot at the Inn for 25$ a day which is fairly cheap compared to other places nearby were they easily ask for 50$ a day. There are also plenty of nice restaurants nearby.
Staff was very welcoming on arrival and the Inn itself is very pretty and has everything that we needed for a nice stay: a heated pool, a hot tub, a bar and a quiet area. Continental breakfast was also up to our expectations including baked goods, bread, spreads, boiled eggs, waffles and pancakes, yoghurt, cereal as well as juices and tasty Starbucks brewed coffee. Seating is available in- as well as outside. We had a very nice room on the first floor with our own sun beds which we enjoyed very much. The room was spacious, nicely decorated and clean throughout our stay. Also the beds are very comfortable. We did not have any problems with light coming through as there are blinds. There are roosters that might wake you up but this can happen al over key west as they are everywhere. The bathroom wasn’t to big but spotless. Thanks for the pleasant stay!

Essegaernsche, thank you for the incredible review. We strive to give each and every guest the experience that you described yourself having. Our staff works very hard to ensure a perfect stay for all, from the front desk welcoming upon arrival to the housekeeping staff keeping the rooms spotless as you mentioned. We are so happy you enjoyed the breakfast and the other amenities as well. Thanks again, and we hope to see you again soon.

First, we were looking for a place to sleep, we expected to be out most all day and didn't want to pay for things we weren't going to use.
This is a historic building, so I didn't expect it to have all the modern wiring & mechanicals. It is an island, that is subject to saltwater, vicious storms and hurricanes. You have to make a few allowances. Like, the AC was a window unit mounted in a hole in the wall, which is fine. But the trim and look of the installation seemed amateurish. The crooked floors, the crooked siding, & small rooms are also to be expected. The room had no dresser, no extra table for working/eating, no alarm clock, no coffee maker, no comfortable side chair, no phone, no USB charging capability (bring ur own there are several outlets). Instead, it had a large rolling cart with basket type "drawers" which worked just fine for storing clothes. It had a flat screen TV but you had to sit on the bed. It had at least 1 dining room type chair, we put our suitcase on it as there was only 1 suitcase stand. Instead of a coffeemaker they had Starbucks coffeemaker in the indoor common room. The common room also had a printer to print ur boarding pass, a flat screen TV, & a filtered water machine. Plus, it had a small seating area and tables/chairs, microwave. This is where they served a kind of small, simple breakfast.
What wish they would improve are the lamps beside the bed bc the switch was on the cord. They could also replace the shelf in the bathroom bc the dampness of the island was finally making it come apart slightly.
Our room had a double wide window with nice wooden blinds, but outside our window was a view of a weedy unkept strip. I think there was even some abandoned furniture in there. (Maybe that strip didn't belong to the hotel?) I didn't like the iguanas pooping and peeing all over, but that's an issue all over the islands. And the staff was diligent about the cleanup. I never felt uneasy or threatened by the iguanas. You can hear your neighbors, be ready & patient with that. If you're picky about such things, you may want to pay more for a more modern hotel.
I loved the closet, it was big, but only had 3 or 4 hangers, I suppose I could have asked for more. The bed was very comfortable! Room was spotlessly clean. Although the room was small, it was quite adequate. Bathroom & its shower stall were clean. Had no issues going barefooted on the laminated floor. Pools were awesome, clean & not crowded. Its on the quiet end of Duval.

The Inn is well appointed, breakfast was very nice, rooms very clean and staff were pleasant. The bed was quite comfortable and bathroom very clean too. The room was small and opened to the pool area which afforded it a bit of a patio which was pleasant to have. The unfortunate thing for this room is that the pool area had to remain well lit all night and the blinds for the room didn't adequately cover the french doors so be aware that 216 and 217 have a lot of light all night long. Also be aware that parking is not guaranteed, costs extra and there is a daily amenity fee so the real price of the room is about $60 more per day than quoted.
Would I return to this Inn? Probably as I really like the location and it was very clean and well decorated. The Happy Hour is a nice feature too. The final cost was probably on par with all the other accommodations I explored.

Hello WilsonsWay, thank you for such a great review. It always makes us happy to not only hear how much our guests enjoyed their stay, but also the constructive criticisms that can help us grow and improve as a property. We have already taken steps to correct the problem with the lighting in these rooms so it will not be an issue for future guests. My husband and I just spent 9 nights here ( our first choice was booked). We had stayed here twice before and had a great experience both stays.
Upon arrival we noticed caution tape everywhere; the hotel was getting a new roof, interior painting in the dining/lounge ( tv, computer, printer) area. We were not notified of this prior to our booking . Nothing was mentioned on their website and upon check in nothing was mentioned about all the work to take place during our stay.
Sonia who checked us in after I had to go to the desk 3 times to find out if our room was ready was poorly trained in hospitality . We found this to be consistent of her all the way to our checking out . But she was quick to take our “resort fee” right up front .
The pool was closed for two days due to the roofing work. The dining area was not completed until the day of our departure.
The outdoor bar area was closed and used as a staging area for the carpenters . Mid way during our stay they began tearing apart one of the guest rooms down the hall. Again no mention of this to be happening.
We stayed in the 200 building . Bed was fine room is small but your barely in there . Bathroom small but functional . The AC was a nightmare, room didn’t get cold enough to sleep and it was very loud ( on and off all night)
There was no housekeeping being provided unless asked for, although they did go in twice. Otherwise we asked for towels and toiletries when needed.
The best was when I asked Sonia for a roll of toilet paper and she said incredulously “ they didn’t clean your room ?”
Upon check in YOU told me they would not be providing this service unless asked. She said well They should of asked you .
Really????
The best employee at this hotel was Jean!!! He worked from the time he showed up till he left. Always moving and very helpful . TIP him directly!!! He deserves it.
I notice the responses from management on these sites and they are standard issue replies at best. This review is for fellow travelers who save up and look forward to their vacations.
We will book earlier next year to get our first choice The Almond Tree Inn

Pros:
Location , heated pool , 24 hour coffee ( when Sonia can figure out how to change the filter)
To management : either better training of employees, or better pay to those worthy of the job in order to retain them . Turnover of employees is high at this hotel .

We booked this hotel because of the location in the quieter southern end of Duval and because it was lower priced than most others. It is not fancy, but it was clean and adequate for our needs. The rooms are very small, but did include a wardrobe to hang clothes and a mini-frig. The outdoor area in back was nice with two pools and a hot tub. Breakfast was what you'd expect from a basic hotel with cereal, packaged muffins, yogurt & make your own waffles. They did have a high-end Starbuck's coffee maker. Parking is available next to the Inn or in a parking lot a block away for an additional $20. The person at the front desk was nearly rude, although the gal who was there in the evening was friendly. We would stay again.

The Southernmost Inn is the former Marrero Cigar Factory, the second most successful cigar maker in Cigar City, as Key West was called in the early 1900s.
We were disappointed to see how basic and run down the unique property is now. Very expensive considering there is no daily cleaning of rooms, noisy wall air conditioners, tiny towels, no toiletries, poor hot showers, terrible breakfast offering and a young and inexperienced front desk staff that showed little interest in hospitality. If coronavirus has placed too much of a management challenge I would recommend they close the Inn until they have the appropriate resources and staff to re-open. By offering such subpar service they are hurting all of the other innkeepers and B& B industry in Key West. We will not be returning to the Southernmost Inn!

Right behind a dental clinic a block away. There is no lighting or security so keep your eyes open. Also, the property charges $20 a night to park there so make sure you discuss parking thoroughly with the daft staff they have there. All dodgy people. Good luck.
