Wow! That’s the first word that comes to mind when I think of my experience at Southernmost Resort.
To celebrate my birthday, my husband and I and two other couples booked hotel rooms in KW. We were torn about which property to choose between Southernmost, Pier House & Hyatt Centric. Although we can’t compare SM to the other properties, we were very happy with our choice.
Location: On the quieter end of Duval, but not a bad walk to the action. Mallory Square is walkable also as long as you stay hydrated and take breaks as needed. There is a small beach in the area as well.
Rooms: We stayed in the Tower Building (directly beside the main building where we check-in). Our room was 398 and overlooked the Pineapple Pool. The huge trees blocked a lot of the view BUT it also blocked a lot of the sun. We loved the balcony! Our bed was comfortable and all the basics were provided. We had a fridge but no microwave. We could’ve requested one, however.
Restaurant: We ate at the Southernmost Cafè twice (lunch & dinner). The food was pretty good, but others in our party didn’t like theirs as much. My husband and I both ordered crab omelettes with hash browns and toast for breakfast. For lunch I had the catch of the day (blackened snapper), pasta salad and another side...it was decent. My husband loved his Reuben and fries!
Service: Now, the service is what sets this place apart!!! From the time we arrived Mischna took EXCELLENT care of us! I enjoyed seeing him each day!! He was so kind, accommodating and helpful. Jewels, the concierge was exactly as her name suggests - a JEWEL!!! She never hesitated to answer any of our questions and she remembered us each day. She offered to book our dinner reservations, gave us maps of the town, and offered helpful information. We booked our excursions before arriving, but we’ll surely contact Jewel the next time around for all of our excursion needs.
Eric, the bellhop was good as well. Sasha, the bellhop/doorman was phenomenal!! He called taxis for us and opened the door every time we approached the door!! To be honest, we didn’t encounter a single rude employee. At the Pineapple Bar, there was an employee (not the bartender) who passed out Miami Vice daiquiris one day...he was amazing!! He smiled and chatted with us each time we saw him.
Guests: Hotels/resorts never know who they are booking rooms to. I was happy to learn, from experience, that all of the guests we saw and shared common spaces with were friendly or at least cordial. We had such a great time chatting with many of them!
Though we spent limited time in our rooms, when we did, we enjoyed every moment. Housekeeping delivered whatever we requested in a timely fashion and we felt like valued guests! We will definitely return!
