Planning a trip to key west in March and having the hardest time deciding on a hotel. I am going solo for 5 nights in Key west (2 nights elsewhere in keys before). The hotels are so expensive! I want to be central since i won't have a car. I usually like a beachside luxury resort but having been to key west before i know there are not many options. I stayed at the Southernmost Beach resort 2 years ago. I loved the beach there and having the pools and pool bars but the rooms were average. Price for that now is almost double what I paid so will stay elsewhere.

I did a lot of research and think i am between the hotel Marquesa and the Kimpton Winslow Bungalows. Seems they are pretty much around the same price. Marquesa has better reviews and looks perfect. Boutique hotel with a b&b type feel. Only concern is they don't have a pool bar for my miami vice or pina colada!! Kimpton Winslow looks nice with a pool bar but not as good reviews and some said there were termite issues. What would you do!?

I would stay at The Marquesa. I’m surprised the prices are the same.

Kimpton has a resort fee and a few extra amenities, but the Marquesa is a beautiful, lush property with a reputation for outstanding service and luxurious rooms. I also think the Marquesa has a better location on Fleming Street rather than busy Truman Avenue.

All buildings here have termites. It’s part of life in The Keys, so I wouldn’t worry about that.

Ditto on the termites - they are part of life here. No matter how nice your home/building.

We love staying at the Marquesa. It’s a lovely retreat with exceptional service in the perfect location. Their restaurant is a wonderful culinary experience as well.

I know it's not what you are looking for but we just booked 5 night's at the Bestwestern Hibiscus. It's $250 a night and we like the location. My wife loves going to the AfterDeck bar at the end of the day. It's close enough for us to walk or bike. ~~~/)~~~

I just stayed at the Marquesa solo over Christmas and highly recommend. It was a great location for walking. And the room was very comfortable. The pool area was beautiful and peaceful.

It I were traveling solo I would sit at the bar for most of my meals and drinks. People are so friendly in Key West, I’ve made so many new friends, usually by sitting at the bars and striking up conversations, with both locals, tourists, and the staff. Enjoy!

Hi Carly-- I wish you were going when I am in early February! I am also going solo and staying at Marquesa (My 1st time staying there, 15th or so time in Key West) This is my first solo trip though! I'll report back what I think of Marquesa, but so far, I am very excited for my stay!
