Looking for the tastiest key lime pies in the Florida Keys? If you’re a fan of key lime pie, you’re in luck—the Florida Keys are renowned for some of the best key lime pies. There are countless places to savor this iconic dessert, from Key Largo to Key West.

I wasn’t always a key lime pie enthusiast, but a slice from Blue Heaven in Key West changed my mind. Since then, I’ve made it my mission to sample this dessert throughout the Keys, just as I did with beignets in New Orleans.

On a recent trip to Islamorada, we made the scenic drive over the 7-mile bridge to Key West, where I indulged in several more slices to find the best spots for you. Everyone has their favorite, but here are some standout spots: Blue Heaven, Ziggie’s, and Mrs. Mac’s Kitchen, which was a hit with my husband.

Here’s a guide to six of the tastiest key lime pies in the Florida Keys, starting from Key West and heading north to Key Largo. I recommend using this list as a starting point and exploring other bakeries and cafes. These posts are written for fun and because I love to share the love for food.

Remember, when trying key lime pie, steer clear of neon green slices—they’re not the real deal. And if you’re looking for a vegan option, this post has a great recommendation.

Blue Heaven’s key lime pie is a favorite in Key West, known for its towering, perfectly toasted meringue that crowns the pie like a fluffy cloud. Despite generally not being a fan of meringue, I make an exception for this one.

The buttery, crumbly graham cracker crust is what sets their pie apart, paired with a light, airy filling that perfectly balances tart and sweet.

If you find yourself at Blue Heaven with a long wait or want to try this famous pie, you can also find it at Salute! On the Beach, a sister restaurant. We had a great lunch there during our first visit to Key West, topped off with this famous pie.

Sunset Pier

Enjoy a delicious slice of key lime pie with a stunning view at Sunset Pier. This spot is perfect for drinks and a bite any time of the day, offering a casual, colorful setting with an impressive ocean backdrop. Surprisingly, it also serves an exceptional key lime pie.

The pie here is simple yet refined—even if it is served on a paper plate. The filling is reminiscent of a light cheesecake, subtly infused with key lime. What makes it special is the cashew graham cracker crust, which adds a delightful hint of nuttiness. This pie is a refreshing treat in a relaxed, scenic location.

The Cafe Key West

  • Vegan but not gluten-free

If you’re vegan and looking for a delightful key lime pie experience in Key West, The Cafe has you covered with its vegan key lime pie cheesecake. Known for its vegetarian-friendly menu, The Cafe offers what they claim to be the only vegan key lime pie in Key West. However, it’s important to note that while the pie is vegan, it is not gluten-free.

Our friend, Christine from Uncorked Asheville, recently visited Key West and enjoyed a slice of this vegan key lime pie. We’re grateful she shared her photo and experience with us, as her insights into excellent vegan food are always reliable and appreciated.

Ziggy & Mad Dog’s

While Ziggie and Mad Dog’s is known for serving an excellent bone-in ribeye, you’ll want to save room for their key lime pie. This pie features a thick consistency, like a cheesecake, perfectly balancing sweetness with the tart zest of key lime in each delicious bite.

The crust, a hearty blend of walnuts and graham crackers, is thick, crumbly, and simply perfect for those who appreciate a good crust. Topped with coconut whip cream, this key lime pie brings everything together in a delightful harmony, making it my top pick for the best key lime pie in Islamorada.

Lazy Day’s Restaurant

The key lime pie might not win a beauty contest at Lazy Day’s, but it’s worth trying. While the presentation may lack finesse, the pie itself is good. It perfectly balances creaminess, tartness, and sweetness without being overly sugary.

Lazy Day’s is a great spot for enjoying drinks at sunset, but if you’re not drinking, the key lime pie offers a sweet alternative. Consider savoring a slice as the sun goes down for a memorable evening.

If you’re in the mood for something different, don’t miss their key lime martini, which offers another twist on the classic Keys flavor.

Mrs. Mac’s Kitchen

Mrs. Mac’s Kitchen key lime pie has received numerous accolades, and it’s easy to see why. This was the last key lime pie we savored before leaving Key West, and it certainly left a lasting impression. Known for its creamy texture, this pie perfectly balances tartness and sweetness, allowing the genuine key lime flavor to shine through.

One distinctive feature of this pie is its custard-like top layer, which feels smooth on your tongue until the vibrant, citrusy flavor of the key lime emerges. For those who aren’t fans of meringue, this pie is an excellent choice as it’s topped with homemade whipped cream instead.

This pie stood out as my husband’s favorite among all the key lime pies we tried in the Florida Keys.
