Middle GradesCAT (COMPUTER ART TECHNOLOGY) Program InformationStudents entering 6th, 7th or 8th grades are eligible to apply for the Computer Art Technology (C@T)
What is the CAT Magnet Program? It is ONE class that make up an entire year of instruction.Students accepted into the program participate in THIS CLASS for all three years. C@T mixes visual art, design, and photography basics with computer applications for new ways to learn about and create art. The C@T students learn to use hardware and software applications such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and Painter. Digital Imaging combined with drawing and painting skills help bring original art works to life. All C@T magnet students gain information through the Internet, field trips, and special guest artist visits. All middle grade teachers, plan together, to make basic skills and art skills interconnected and interdisciplinary.
All computer and fine arts magnet instruction are delivered by professional artist/teachers in fully equipped studios. Individualized programs, high student achievement levels, and warm nurturing environment, make South Miami K-8 Center a VERY SPECIAL PLACE! All middle school age students have two electives. Magnet class count as ONE elective. South Miami K-8 Center’s middle grade classes are on block schedule. This means students have six classes in total, however they only attend three classes daily (i.e.: A-day, students attend periods 1, 3, 5, B-day, students attend periods 2, 4, 6).
