While many among the cast of Game of Thrones were taller than average, like Isaac Hempstead Wright, who plays Bran and was 5'11'' by the end of the show (even though his character could never stand) as well as Sophie Turner, who played Sansa Stark and stands at a pretty tall 5'9''.

Some might surprise you at the fact that they aren't as tall as you think: Iian Glen, for example, who played Jorah Mormont, is actually taller in real life that Kristofer Hivju, who played Tormund Giantsbane, at 6'1'' versus 6''. And you might think others like Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lanniser), who is 6'2'', Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth), who is 6'3'), and Jason Momoa (Khal Drogo), who is 6'4'', are among the tallest actors on the show. But they don't even rank in the top-five.

Likewise, some actors were much shorter than you realize, like Kit Harington who played Jon Snow and is just 5'8''. Who were among the shortest and tallest in the cast?

Peter Dinklage: Shortest (4'4'')

Not surprisingly, Dinklage is the shortest cast member from the show, standing just 4'4'' tall. His small stature is due to achondroplasia, a common form of dwarfism.

While Game of Thrones is the role that has garnered Dinklage the most accolades, including a record four Emmy wins for the role of Tyrion Lannister, Dinklage has been acting for some time – from films like Elf to the Oscar-winning film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

Clive Russell: Tallest (6'6'')

Clive Russell as Blackfish Tully in Game of Thrones Season 6

He wasn't a main character on the show, but Russell, who played Brynden "The Blackfish" Tully, was actually one of the tallest of the cast members. The 74-year-old Scottish actor stands at 6'6'' tall.

Russell is also known for his roles as Chief Inspector Frederick Abberline in Ripper Street and Angus O'Connor in Happiness.

Maisie Williams: Shortest (5'1'')

Arya Stark fights in the Battle of Winterfell in Game of Thrones

Yes, such a small woman was able to take down the almighty Night King. Williams is just over 5 feet tall but she was still able to bring a massive personality and presence with the character of Arya Stark.

Williams is also known for her recurring role as Ashildr in Doctor Who as well as an entrepreneur who co-founded her own social media platform called Daisie, designed for creative people to network, collaborate on ideas, and find mentors.

Rory McCann: Tallest (6'6'')

The Hound looking into the distance in GOT

This Scottish actor generally likes to keep to himself and out of the spotlight, but on the show, he was a towering presence. Standing 6'6'', his nickname was "The Hound," real name Sandor Clegane, brother to Sir Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane.

In addition to lending his talents to film and TV projects, McCann used to front a band called Thundersoup and is an accomplished musician who plays multiple instruments.

Emilia Clarke: Shortest (5'2'')

Dany and Drogon in Game of Thrones

Just like Williams, Clarke played another badass female on the show, Daenerys Targaryen that, in real life, is just barely more than 5 feet tall. Clarke inches over Williams by a slight, well, inch, standing at 5'2''.

It's clear Clarke is pretty short on the show, though perhaps not so much so when you consider that many of the men she filmed scenes with were extremely tall, which would make anyone seem short beside them.

Hafpor Julius Bjornsson: Tallest (6'9'')

While Sir Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane was actually played by three actors over the course of the series, Bjornsson is the most recognizable one, having played the character for the longest period through the series' last five seasons.

Winner of several Strongest Man competitions, the Icelandic actor is not only a massively tall 6'9'', he also weighs a whopping 441 lbs.! Interestingly, Mark "Conan" Stevens, who first played the character, was taller at 7" and Ian Whyte, the second actor to play him, was 7'1''. The latter actually returned to play different characters on the show.

Lena Headey: Shortest (5'5'')

Headey isn't short, per se, but she is among several other actors on the show who is about 5'5'' in height. That's pretty average by most standards. But considering how tall many others on the show were, she was actually considered "short."

Headey, of course, played Queen Cersei Lannister who was secretly in love with her own twin brother, who fathered her three children.

Kristian Nairn: Tallest (7'')

Hodor from Game of Thrones

Hodor himself, one of the most beloved characters in the series, was played by the 7-foot-tall Irish actor. Interesting, the role of Hodor was Nairn's first acting gig ever, yet he earned enough from it to buy his mother a house, he has noted in interviews.

The 44-year-old also works as a progressive house/trance DJ and plays the guitar. After his role on the series ended, he began touring as a DJ with "Rave of Thrones."

Michelle Fairley: Shortest (5'5'')

Lady Catelyn Stark on Game of Thrones

Catelyn Stark herself was considered pretty short, standing at the same 5'5'' height as Headey. Fairley was only in the first few seasons but she was a key character and her death was part of one of the most epic scenes of the show.

Since her time on Game of Thrones, Fairley has appeared on series like Suits and 24: Live Another Day.

Ian Whyte: Tallest (7'1'')

Wun Wun in Game of Thrones

As noted above, Whyte played Sir Gregor Clegane in the second season of the series before Bjornsson took over the role. He has also played other physically tall characters on the series who were involved in epic battles, including White Walkers, a giant, and a wight. He was, however, in full make-up with computer effects each time so you'd never know it was him.

His most notable performance on the series, however, was that of the giant Wun Wun which, again, would have been unrecognizable due to make-up and effects.
