Yes, so sad about Gloria. Having nothing to do all day but fly kites on her sprawling estate, amateur philosophizing and quoting poetry to anyone who will listen, or buying a horse, because who needs to be chauffeured all the time?
But seriously, there is something inherently turbulent with stories about fragile psyches encased in the lonely desolation of affluence. It's always only a matter of time before the fairy tale turns into a nightmare, and a very specific nightmare, one of a mysterious figure swinging an axe, plagues our Gloria. On the surface, her existence is a bubble from the toils of the world; but deeper, it can be a tinderbox where the slightest distress can trigger a crippling…
November Horror 2021, day 2, challenge #16 - Elvira's Movie Macabre w/segments
So Sad About Gloria should get together with How Awful About Allen, they'd probably hit it off! This had super made-for-tv 70s music (lots of horns and doot-do's that were more suited to the quirky tree-climbing romance montages than the brutal axe murder), and surprisingly good acting for a regional Arkansas horror. It isn't super gory or anything but the first axe swing def killed that made for tv vibe. Oh and extreme closeup of be-pantied ladybutt for no reason?? I mean this isn't a leer-y movie otherwise, more of a psych thriller, but it's like they got an 80s slasher director to come in and direct that…
Also known as VISIONS OF EVIL…
Decent regional physiological chiller about a pretty and sweet though mentally unstable heiress (the titular Gloria) dealing with the stress of her new marriage to a struggling writer. The pair honeymoon in an old mansion where a notorious and unsolved ax slaying occurred the year before — the latter unbeknownst to Gloria. Is she crazy or is the ax man out to get her? For fans of obscure 70’s regional horror, it might just be worth tuning in to find out. I’m glad I did.
Interestingly, the director was/is a big time crony and pal of Bill Clinton and even got roped into a scandal or two during Clinton’s presidency.
Dreamlike, regionally shot Nightmare USA axe slasher with some very nicely done time jumps. Starring the lovely Lori Saunders of PETTICOAT JUNCTION fame, and floating on the strains of a straight-from-TV soundtrack that blends in a bit of Burt Bacharach and James Pankow (and with plenty of harpsichord, because it's 1973 and all).
A young adult, Lori is released from a mental institution at the beginning of the film and re-enters the pastoral world of the apparently limitless wealth of her family.
Lori meets Robert Ginnaven one day, who is sitting in a tree and promptly begins making allusions to Tolkien and later Charles Boyer, which excites Lori because she is a big reader and also has a horse named…
This slow burning horror thriller from director/co-writer/co-producer Harry Thomason(ENOCUNTERS WITH THE UNKNOWN,REVENGE OF BIGFOOT) has the title young lady(Lori Saunders[MARA OF THE WILDERNESS,FRAISER! THE LOVABLE LION]) being released from a local ayslum into the custody of her uncle([name value star] Dean Jagger[WHITE CHRISTMAS,GAME OF DEATH{1979}]) who takes her into his home until she meets a writer(Robert Ginnaven[ONE FALSE MOVE,THE DAY IT CAME TO EARTH]) who she falls in love with and eventually marries as they then move into a house that was the past scene for a brutal axe murder, with Saunders soon having recurring visions of an axe murderer that is pursuing her as the questions rises upon whether the killer is actually real or if there is a sinister…

1/2 US Regional Horror
This is such a great premise that unfortunately is much too slow of a burn. A rich young woman is released from a mental institution to the care of her uncle. She meets a guy and they fall in love and marry. The husband rents a house for them that just happens to be the site of a grisly murder years before. The young woman begins to see and hear things no one else does. I’m sure you can see where it’s going. It wasn’t a bad film but it could have been so much better. In the end, it’s worth the watch but I wish the filmmakers had done more with it.
Surprisingly effective thriller, this is a bit slow in places and obviously low budgetbut a definite must for horror fans.
Small gaslighting thriller. Predictable but well shot in the "terror" sequences. The ending is actually quite creepy. Some off kilter dream sequences. A pretty 70s lead character. A minor gem if you can handle a nonlogical plot, soapy parts and a sloooow storytelling. I like it slow and gloomy so i was hooked.
The final film in my mini Code Red marathon. So Sad About Gloria is like a 40s suspense novel you find in the back of a rented cabin one summer's night. It's a swift breeze, simple and predictable. Peculiarly I am totally fine with this being slow as molasses.
Tepid TV movie. Subject matter calls for psychological horror, execution is bog standard 1970s soap opera.
