Objective: Follow Sigurd
This quest will immediately begin upon completion of Where Legends Are Born. Exit the longship and follow Sigurd.
Sigurd will lead you up the icy slope here and across a frozen lake until we reach a cavern located to the northeast of where the longship is docked. Proceed into the cave to reach a new location - Goinnhellir. Continue through the cave, destroying the weak sheet of ice blocking the path when prompted by Sigurd.
Eventually you will come across a very fancy looking door. A scene will play here.
After Sigurd utters some magic words, the door will open. Head through the door and continue to follow Sigurd until another scene commences. We will ride an elevator down.
At the bottom disembark and continue to follow Sigurd. Continue through the ruins until he leads you to a glowing orb. He will talk with you here.
Objective: Reach the central platform
Following the chat, head down the stairs and stand on the glowing rune on the floor below the metal arms on the roof. A scene will play.
When we regain control, Eivor will wake up in a bed in an entirely new area. Make your way forward, through the hallway ahead. The door at the end will open, emptying out into a feasting hall. Continue forward until you reach Sigurd who can be found midway through the area speaking with a woman named Svala.
Following the chat, the door will open, and we will run out onto a battlefield. We are essentially godlike here - any attack we do will mow down any enemy in a single hit. Continue to cut through the soldiers here. Eventually, Sigurd will challenge you to a fight.
Approach his position and fight him.
Although this is technically a boss fight, alluded to by the giant health bar at the top of the screen, its impossible to lose. Sigurd's attacks will be unable to damage you at all, however yours will chip away at his health bar.
Reduce Sigurd's health bar enough and a scene will play. When the scene ends, we will wake up in the same bed again. We will need to essentially repeat the events of the previous day - make your way back out into the feast hall, Speak to Sigurd here. Exit via the gate and cut down enemies outside. Locate Sigurd and chat with him here to end the battle.
Following the scene, we will once again wake up in the same bed. Proceed out to the feat hall once more. This time, as you enter a scene will play. When you regain control, Eivor wants to look for her father - he can be found near the gate leading to the battlefield - use Odin's Sight to identify him. As you approach, the gates will open, and he and the other warriors will charge out once again. Once outside, locate Sigurd and chat with him here to end the battle.
Guess what? That is right, we are going to wake up in the same bed once again! A scene will play here during which Sigurd will try to cheer you up. Afterwards, head to the feasting hall to see that it is already empty. Proceed to the open gate and as you arrive Svala will talk with you. Once outside, locate Sigurd after a little fighting and chat with him here a lengthy cut-scene will commence.
When you are back in control, we will find ourselves elsewhere. Follow Odin whilst he narrates Eivors life for us. Eventually we will reach a large stone gate where he will stop. Approach and speak with him here. This will trigger a boss fight.
As with the fight against Sigurd earlier, we cannot lose this fight. Even if Odin completely drains your health bar, Eivor will fall to the floor briefly before standing up to go again. Likewise, although we can attack Odin, we cannot kill him, no matter how hard you try.
Instead, what we need to do to complete the fight is to head into the inventory menu and unequip your Axe so that you are unarmed. At this point, run for the large golden gate in the distance and you should be able to flee the area.Following another scene, you'll be back outside and be reunited with Sigurd and Basim.
Objective: Confront Basim
Make your way up the stairs and through the archway to reach a circular arena where Basim awaits. A boss fight will commence.
Basim is an assassin and as such, he is very quick and agile and will use the environment to his advantage. Unlike most other boss fights, there is no health bar for Basim at the top of the screen but you will trigger the fight to proceed after inflicting enough damage. He uses both a sword and his hidden blade to attack you and can perform the following:
- Sprinting charge attack across the area.
- Jump from upper ledge into air assassination .
- Smoke bomb
- Throwing Knives
During the first part of this fight, Basim is somewhat standoffish and will only attempt to attack you using hit and run methods, either by charging across the area to deliver a melee strike and continuing to run or by climbing to the upper level and performing an air assassination . We need to watch these attacks and avoid them. The air assassination provides the perfect opportunity to hack away at him a few times after he lands.
After you have attacked him a few times, he'll drop a smoke bomb so that he can escape. From the cover of the smoke he will often launch some throwing knives at you, so be careful to keep your eye on the attack indicator.
After damaging him enough, a cut-scene will play. When this ends, the platform we are on will begin to rise (turns out it was an elevator) and Basim will change his tactics a little, becoming more comfortable with close-range combat. He'll pick up a few new moves including:
- horizontal slash.
- Leaping slam with his sword
- will jump away and use a throwing knife
- A charging uppercut with the hidden blade
He will occasionally retreat to the same moves as the first phase of the fight during this fight, but will for the most part stay at ground level and use his melee attacks to fight you. All of these can be blocked/parried except for his charge attack using the hidden blade which you will want to avoid.
Once you have damaged him enough, a prompt for a stun attack will appear. Approach and hit him with this to trigger a scene.Following the scene, Basim will drop a smoke grenade and vanish.
Objective: Chase Basim
Follow after Basim, using all your parkouring abilities to jump, climb and slide your way across the linear platforming path that has been laid out before you. When you reach the large slope at the end, slide back down to the floor.
As you arrive, a scene will play.
Objective: Defeat Basim
Following the scene, we will once again have to fight Basim.
This fight is in essence the same as the second phase of the previous fight as Basim will use the same series of attacks with his sword. The one difference though is that his left arm will be glowing. This is his weak spot - shoot this with an arrow or two to trigger a stun attack prompt.
Using the stun attack on Basim will cause a cut-scene to end the fight.Once the fight has ended, Sigurd will wander over and sit on a stone nearby. Approach his position for a conversation. During this scene, Sigurd will recall some decisions that you have made during the game so far and the outcome of these decisions will determine whether he returns to England with you or to Norway alone.
- Determining the fate of Stybjorn's wealth during The Seas of Fate. Leaving the loot with Styrbjorn is a positive result for Sigurd.
- How we deal with Dag during A Brewing Storm. Allowing him to die with honour is a positive result for Sigurd.
- How we react to Sigurd in conversation during Blood from a Stone. Not striking him is a positive result for Sigurd.
- The reaction of his judgment of Holger during Blame and Sail. Not questioning his judgment is a positive result for Sigurd.
- Deciding to romance Randvi. . Not romancing Randvi until they break up is a positive result for Sigurd.
Following the scene, the quest will be completed.
