Museum Embankment Festival Frankfurt

The Museum Embankment Festival (Museumsuferfest) is Europe’s largest cultural festival that will be held from 28^th to 30^th August 2020 in Frankfurt, Germany. It features numerous arts and craft stalls, live music that plays all the way into the night, Frankfurt’s marvellous museum mile, and also some culinary highlights from all over the world. The best part? It’s free! Well, almost free, that is. The Museumsuferfest Button A special festival button - the Museumsuferfest Button offers visitors free access to 23 museums during the entire weekend. You can get it at any participating museum or the Tourist Information Office for only 7 €! Great deal, right? Here’s the list of all the museums that you’ll be able to visit with the button:

You probably won’t be able to visit them all in one weekend. But one or two per day is definitely doable. ???? What to do and see at the festival? The main attraction are the museums themselves, of course. But during the day, you may visit the stalls along the banks of the river Main and enjoy everything they offer, from used books to vintage vinyl, arts, crafts, and sculptures made by the local artists. Keep on walking to see the stalls change to food and drink booths. Stop by and grab a quick bite before heading down to the riverbank itself, where you’ll be able to enjoy some beautiful live performances. As the sun sets, the festival starts turning more and more into a party. Live bands and DJ’s play sets from rock to techno, so anyone can find something that fits their taste. Many locals like to enjoy the pleasant summer evening vibe on gardens of Ethnology museum or Museum of Applied Art. Really, wherever you find yourself, you will be well fed, will always have something to drink, and there will be music playing in the background. Sounds like a perfect summer evening atmosphere! On Sunday night, you’ll be able to admire a spectacular firework, marking the end of another Museumsuferfest. Here’s a tip for those who have never been to the festival before – if you want to watch the fireworks from the riverside, head down to the bank about an hour before the show starts so you will make sure to get a good spot with the perfect view. What else is there to know? Transportation won’t be a problem, let the Nomago InterCity bus take you to Frankfurt comfortably and affordably. Frankfurt itself is well-covered with subway, trams, trains, busses and taxis so getting around the city is a piece of cake. The festival is held in the near vicinity of many accommodation options as well, so that shouldn’t be a problem either. Hotels, Airbnb, hostels etc. – you can find everything here. In the end, what you really need to do is pack your bags and get ready to travel to this amazing city and experience the festival in your own way. Have fun!

Oktoberfest Munich

We probably don’t need to introduce the world’s biggest folk fest. Whether you’re a beer lover or not, you’ve most likely heard of Oktoberfest. Once you experience it, you always want to come back and if you haven’t visited it jet, it is probably on your bucket list. To get you even more excited, here are 5 fun facts about the festival you probably didn’t know.

• It’s a wedding anniversary celebration. Oktoberfest was originally not a beer festival. The first one was organised in 1810 as a celebration of King Ludwig and Princess Therese’s wedding. It took place at Theresienwiese (Theresia meadow) and this location has remained unchanged until today. In over 200 years, it has been cancelled 24 times, mostly due to wars or diseases.

• It starts in September Even though the greater part of the event falls into September, it’s called Oktoberfest. Why is that? Back in 1810 it did take place in October and it only lasted a week. Over the years the beginning was being moved towards sunnier, warmer and more outdoor event-appropriate mid-September and festival was prolonged. This attracted more visitors, who stayed longer and drank more beer. Cheers all around!
• “It’s tapped!” The festival is officially opened by a gun salute followed by the mayor of Munich opening the first beer barrel and shouting “It’s tapped!”. After that ceremony the Oktoberfest is open, and visitors may begin drinking themselves.
• Record-setting environment Approximately 7 million litres of beer are served each year which is enough to fill almost 3 Olympic-size swimming pools. Every year there’s also a stein-carrying competition at the festival. The last record was set in 2008 by a German waitress Anita Schwartz who carried 19 beer steins over a 40-meter course.

• Family-friendly event Though taking a child to a beer festival might not seem like responsible parenting, Oktoberfest is a kid and family friendly event and hundreds of children attend every year. It opens from 9am to 10 am and offers countless amusement rides for its young visitors. There’s even a lost and found children office!

The Green Sauce Festival

Goethe’s favourite dish and Frankfurt’s most popular delicacy is honoured with a seven-day culinary celebration, the Green Sauce Festival each day of the festival, visitors have the opportunity of picking a winner from the many cooking teams sent forth by Frankfurt’s hotel and restaurant trade.

The Wäldchestag

Unique to Frankfurt am Main, the "Wäldchestag" (Forest Day) falls on the Tuesday after Whitsun and is the high point of the Whitsun holiday. Frankfurt has been celebrating this day as its "national holiday" for centuries. Young and old throughout the generations leave their work by midday at the latest, gathering their kith and kin and heading to Frankfurt's city forest to celebrate "their" Wäldchestag. The Wäldchestag is a symbol of how much the citizens of Frankfurt identify with and love their city.

Isle of Summer Munich

One of the events that attracts the biggest number of visitors in the Munich area in summer months is definitely Isle of Summer Open Air Festival. It is an electronic-house-techno music festival that has been organized for the tenth time this year. If you are looking for the perfect way to open the festival season, this one held on 13th June in the city's Olympia Reitanlage Riem will be the nice way to say Hello to summer! You will realize why this festival has been one of Munich's most revered events for almost a decade now.
