We took a 4 day trip along the GOR to take in the wonder of what remains of the 12 Apostles. Experiencing bad weather, rain, hail and I believe even snow in a few areas,it hadn't been a great outdoor time. We pulled into the carpark and encountered our first real taste of the 'tourist attraction' that it is. The place was packed!

Headed down the back of the carpark and wondered whether the choppers were working on a day like this...as one whizzed over my head to land the answer was obvious. We went for it. I did not feel like competing for a standing spot on the coastline with such a large number of people, the chopper ride was a great option. We chose the 15 min ride at a cost of $145 each. You can book ahead online but you can also just walk in. The only down side was the lads trying to work out which choppers to take out. All depends on number of people and which trip they want to do of course. We nearly got taken out of one chopper to go to a smaller one, but they waited to see if they could convince a couple of extras onto it. This aspect whilst economical and necessary for them, was a bit annoying.

But back to the ride..it was absolutely worth it! Felt like you were up there forever. The large red turbo chopper takes 4 people across the back and three passengers in the front with the pilot. He was happy to give a dialogue through the headphones if you wanted to hear it. The seating works for couples or people travelling together.
One lot sees the sights on the way up the coast, then on the turn around the other side gets the views. Loved it, got some great photos on our murky stormy but dry run. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend the spend on something quite unique.

There is an information centre and a toilet block at the 12 Apostles, which is a few kms out of town. You can get snacks there and parking is free.

Such a great trip! Staff are accompanying and helpful! If you're afraid of flying its nowhere near as bad as you think it would be!!! Pilot is also very reassuring.

Whilst on a bus tour of the great ocean road we were made aware that helicopter rides would be available once we arrived at the lookout near the Apostles. My husband is scared of heights so I didn't think I would get him on a helicopter but an American tourist and I talked him into it. He now says that it was one of the best experiences of his life. The awesome scenery from the helicopter is an experience never forgotten. The friendly staff add to the experience. The flight and the feeling that you get from this incredible look at this great part of Australia remain with you long after your holiday is just a memory. Thanks 12 Apostles helicopters.

This was a fab experience offering a really unique way of seeing the misnamed 12 Apostles. What I appreciated was the fact that when I rang the previous week I was told not to book but rather to wait till the day we wanted to fly due to the uncertainty of the weather. Many companies would have just taken your money.
The pilot could have given a bit more of a talk on the flight but it really was the view not the chat that was paid for.

What a fantastic experience.

We turned up that morning and went straight to the airfield. We did not have a prior booking, but paid on the spot and got into the first helicopter of the day. If you are going to arrive later though, it might be worth booking beforehand, as the lines were long when we got back.

The helicopter looked in immaculate condition. The attitude of the pilot and ground staff is professional but friendly. This gives you great confidence if you are nervous or haven't been in a helicopter before. They help you with life jackets, seat belts and the headphones.

There is a running commentary by the pilot as you fly and you get amazing views of the 12 Apostles. There is a recording of the flight made which you can buy afterwards.
