Now on to this release. This is a seven-disc set planned to be released September 14th. Unlike the past volume release, which has little to no bonus features, the complete season set will have extended episodes, sing-along karaoke, a behind-the-scenes look at 'The Power of Madonna' episode, 'Glee' makeovers, never-before-seen 'Sue's Corner' segments, a dance tutorial and more. I haven't heard anything about episode commentaries, but hopefully there will be some of those as well.
As stated earlier, there are NO PLANS by FOX to release a 2nd volume with the 9 spring episodes as a companion to this volume 1 release. You will have to buy the Sept 14th complete 1st season set if you have already bought release and would like to own the other 9 episodes on DVD. In addition, there was talk earlier in the year about an alleged rebate included in the complete 1st season release so that fans who had already bought the volume 1 release could get some money back because they double dipped. Later on, FOX denied any such rebate, but now it looks likes there WILL BE A REBATE. All the info about this rebate, or "Gleebate" as FOX has dubbed via a special website FOX has set up. Just google Gleebate DVD to see the rebate details and how to get ten bucks back.
I know it was kinda a low-down move for FOX to release the Volume 1 DVD set, but I can't help but be excited for this new complete season set!!
*****UPDATE: Ok I guess we all underestimated FOX! I am very happy though that they have decided to release a 2nd volume of glee for those who bought the first! Now everyone can stop complaining.
Set in this context, the real drama unfolds. The show takes real-life situations (teen pregnancy, sexual identity, unraveling marital ties, relationships, peer pressure, belonging) and then adds absurd twists sending them well over the top (virginal 16-year old does not understand the nuances of how a baby is conceived, ditzy blond thinks cat is reading her journal, slushies are tossed in students' faces regularly in the school hallways). All the viewer can do is suspend disbelief and enjoy the ride. All cast members, often more caricatures than characters, behave badly at one time or another (regularly for some) but their charm is irresistible. They are so darn likable all one can do is embrace them and await the next outlandish act. The show's real success is that in the midst of these zany overblown situations, there are profoundly touching and heart-warming moments that are equally authentic.
Each episode features a few music numbers. Some are staged as part of a glee club rehearsal or performance, others arise more organically from the drama (some are both). A staggering array of genres are represented: show tunes, rock n' roll, pop, R&B, Rap; classic and contemporary pieces for each. The choreography sizzles with energy and excitement. The cast appears to be having a blast and it is highly contagious.
Regarding the Blu-ray set, it is disappointing that there is no content listing (which episodes are on which disks) on or in the packaging. This can be easily rectified, however, with a homemade addition if desired. While the picture and sound quality are better than on a standard DVD, it may not be as good as it could be.
Despite the package's shortcomings, it is the best quality production available of a terrific show and a treasure to possess.

22 episodes chart progress as the "misfits" gradually gain confidence. Inevitable is teenage angst some may consider cheesy. Cynics may also scoff at full scale production numbers seemingly whipped up in minutes. Most, though, are likely to be bowled over by a likeable, talented cast and the sheer energy of it all - such enthusiasm impossible to resist.
Matthew Morrison appeals as kindly, dedicated Will. Jane Lynch is hilariously horrible as his archenemy, the cheerleaders' coach Sue - McKinley's very own Wicked Witch of the West. Terror is her weapon as she sets out to destroy Glee. Politically incorrect, to put it mildly, she specializes in blistering putdowns. (On television she urges all local fatties and uglies to stay indoors so her eyes are not offended.) Here is a true monster - but with a secret softer side. Prepare for surprises - not least when she bursts into song and dance.
Throughout, there is so much to like - not to mention many, many laughs. (Note how the football team scores its first win in ages.) The fun includes famous guest stars like Olivia Newton John mercilessly sending themselves up. Some sequences are also extremely moving - as with that deaf school's performance of "Imagine". Highlights include homages to Madonna, Lady Gaga and Queen - all of the routines ambitious and inventive. Generous bonuses prove lively and interesting.
Brainchild of Ryan Murphy (who also created "Nip/Tuck"!) , "Glee" is perfect family entertainment that generates a real warmth. Dreams are fulfilled, former outsiders now with a sense of belonging. The show uplifts, thoroughly deserving all the praise and awards.
Comes in two volume cases so it takes up more room like two DVD cases but for the money and entertainment I get from putting Glee on in the background while reading a book or doing coursework it's really worth it.
Funny show, bit la king in parts but seen all seasons but 5 and the first season does have good songs. S4 is one of the best I've seen but the whole Mercedes switch for Unique is uncomfortable to watch and has become quite controversial which is a good step for world growth but it is true what one off the guys says in an episode.
If you want to be looked at as a girl then why do you come in some days as a guy then change the next. What bathroom do you use etc. Funny though that in the episode he was made to look like a nob but I think the characters personality was spot on.
Other than a few things I personally don't agree with, Glee has become a part of my life where I can find out opinions and topics which were not spoken about in my family where I can reflect and see what I feel is acceptable to be on TV and in life. So if you are a thinker person and feel conflicted with media representations and controversial topics then Season 4 and 5 that I've heard are the ones to watch. For entertainment most the songs are pretty good but some could be done to last longer, especially the New Directions competition which have 1 or 2 songs shown but ND get 3. TV for ya.
