What Is the Glee Reunion at the 2021 GLAAD Awards?

This year GLAAD is paying tribute to the 10th anniversary of Glee‘s coming out episode for Santana Lopez, as well as the late Naya Rivera. The episode was revolutionary in how the LGBTQ+ community was portrayed onscreen. Rather than painting Santana’s coming out as a joke or as a heavy-handed special episode, “I Kissed a Girl” kept its focus on Santana as a person rather than turning her into an example. It’s a characterization that continued throughout the rest of the series. Santana’s romance with Brittany (Heather Morris) is one of the sweetest, most emotionally resonant, and complicated relationships in the entire show.

Hosted by former guest star Demi Lovato, the GLAAD Glee reunion will feature 13 members of the original cast. Jacob Artist, Chris Colfer, Darren Criss, Vanessa Lengies, Jane Lynch, Kevin McHale, Heather Morris, Matthew Morrison, Alex Newell, Amber Riley, Harry Shum Jr., Becca Tobin, and Jenna Ushkowitz are all set to attend. It’s unknown what form this tribute will take, but it feels safe to say there will be singing.

Who Else Will Be at the 2021 GLAAD Awards?

Niecy Nash is set to host this awards show that highlights positive representation of the LGBTQ+ community. Additionally Chika, Sabrina Carpenter, Jessica Betts, and Rebecca Black are all set to preform.

Ryan Murphy’s Netflix projects will be a major contender this year. The Prom, The Boys in the Band, Circus of Books, 9-1-1: Lone Star, Ratched, and Hollywood all secured nominations. Happiest Season, Visible: Out on Television, Big Mouth, I May Destroy You, Queer Eye, and The Haunting of Bly Manor are also among the nominees. It’s a stacked show, and it’s sure to be a big night.
