Scream 7 is shaping up to be a family affair. New plot details for the meta-slasher sequel have emerged, revealing that Sidney Prescott's family will be the main targets of Ghostface.

According to trusted insider Daniel Richtman (via X), "They are looking to cast Sid's two kids. It seems like the movie will focus on Sid's family as all 4 (her, her husband and 2 kids) are listed as leads." These plot details seemingly confirm that Scream 7 will not feature any of the characters introduced in the legacy sequels Scream (2022) and Scream VI (2023), particularly the Core Four. Instead, the franchise will focus back on its original lead, Sidney Prescott, with Neve Campbell returning to the role after the character was absent in Scream VI.

While Campbell is so far the only actor officially attached to Scream 7, franchise veterans Courteney Cox and Patrick Dempsey are reportedly also in talks to return. Cox, who is the only actor besides Ghostface voice actor Roger L. Jackson to appear in all six Scream installments, would be reprising her role of journalist Gale Weathers, whereas Dempsey would be stepping back into the shoes of Detective Mark Kincaid, who appeared in Scream 3 (2000). In the previous two Scream movies, it was revealed that Sidney had rekindled her relationship with Mark off-screen and the two were now married with children.

Scream 7 Was Originally Going to Look a Lot Different

While Scream fans are excited about Campbell's return to the franchise, the seventh movie wasn't originally going to focus on Sidney. Instead, Scream 7 was going to wrap up the Carpenter Sisters storyline that began in 2022's Scream. However, after voicing her thoughts on the Israel-Hamas war on social media, Melissa Barrera was fired from Scream 7, prematurely ending Sam Carpenter's story within the franchise. Shortly thereafter, it was revealed that Jenna Ortega would also not be returning as Sam's younger sister, Tara Carpenter, due to a scheduling conflict with Wednesday Season 2.
