Claudia Ruth Wenger (born October 31, 1897 in Basel, † 30 May 1994, Weimar) was a Swiss concert singer (soprano) and painter who called himself as an artist Claudia.lifeRuth Wenger was the second daughter of Swiss painter and children's book author Lisa Wenger (1858-1941) and the factory owner Theo Wenger (1868-1928), owner of the "Swiss cutlery factory" Wenger. One of the three daughters of her older sister Eva (1891-1959) was the artist Meret Oppenheim.1919 met Ruth Wenger's 20 years her senior writer Hermann Hesse know in Ticino, while they spent the summer in Carona with their parents. Both loved each other very much, but had doubts as to whether this love was to be sealed by a marriag, because too different were the interests and character peculiarities of the two. They looked at often, but briefly, either in Carona or in Basel, where Ruth Wenger vocals, flute and piano studied. She married Hesse on 11 January 1924 after his divorce from his first wife, Maria, but the couple lived mostly several hundreds of kilometers apart.
