Obituary

Ruth Ann McCabe passed away Thursday, May 25, 2023, in Redmond, Washington at the age of 94. She was born Ruth Iannucci to James and Helen Iannucci in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on September 24, 1928, joining her brother Jay. The family moved to Coronado, California, in the late 1930s.

While attending Mercy School of Nursing in San Diego, Ruth was set up on a double date with Ensign Robert E. McCabe. They were engaged three months later and were married February 18,1950, at the naval chapel on North Island in Coronado, California. They quickly started their family and were blessed with a total of nine children. They were married for 58 years until Bob passed away in 2008.

Ruth lived many places throughout her life- Connecticut, California, Wisconsin, Virginia, Rhode Island, Minnesota, and eventually Washington. As a captain’s wife, she took on many important responsibilities in and out of the home and guided the family throughout their numerous relocations. Bob and Ruth settled down in Redmond, Washington, where they remained until their passings. Ruth felt deeply connected with her St. Jude parish community, poker friends, and neighbors. She was grateful to have been able to stay in the neighborhood when she moved to Emerald Heights in 2013.

She is survived by eight of her nine children, Robert McCabe III (Joan), Michael McCabe (Terri), Patrick McCabe, Sharon Etheredge (dec. Gary), Duffy McCabe (Cathleen), Erin McDermid (dec. Bill), Margaret Isom (Jon), and Shannon Cunningham (Joshua), 17 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
