PISCATAWAY, N.J. – After winning five of the last six games, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (10-6, 4-2) are back at Jersey Mike's Arena on Wednesday night at 8:30 p.m. to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes (13-4, 3-3).
Iowa enters Wednesday's contest as winners of six of its last seven including a win on the road against the Scarlet Knights next opponent Minnesota on Sunday.
Big Ten statistics leaders
The Scarlet Knights are leading in several statistical categories through six conference games played.
Rutgers enters Wednesday's game as first in the conference in three-point shooting percentage (.442) in conference play.
Senior forward
Ron Harper Jr. leads all players in the conference during Big Ten games in three-point shooting percentage (.647) and is tied for first in three-pointers made (22) and three-pointers-per-game (3.67). Harper Jr. is also in third in total points-per-game (20.33).
Junior guard
Paul Mulcahy enters Tuesday as being first in assists-per-game in conference play (5.67). Mulcahy is tied for first in total assists (34).
Senior guard
Caleb McConnell is first in steals in conference play (12) as well as first in steals-per-game (2.0).
Scouting Iowa
The Hawkeyes have the leading-scorer in the country in guard Keegan Murray who is averaging 23.9 points-per-game. Murray is shooting an outstanding 59 percent from the field and 36.2 percent from three-point range. Murray also leads the team with 8.1 rebounds-per-game.
Point guard Jordan Bohannon, a staple of the Hawkeyes is having another great season shooting 37.3 percent from three-point range. Bohannon in his last year of eligibility is averaging 10.9 points-per-game.
Forward Patrick McCaffrey (10.9) and forward Kris Murphy (10.8) are the other two Hawkeyes averaging double-digit points-per-game.
History with Iowa
Wednesday marks the 12th meeting between Iowa and Rutgers. Rutgers is 2-9 against the Hawkeyes. Rutgers lost a pair of games to Iowa last season including a 77-75 defeat in Piscataway.
Iowa last time out
Iowa led by as many as 23 points and scored the final seven points in an 81-71 triumph versus Minnesota on Sunday afternoon in Williams Arena in Minneapolis.
The Hawkeyes registered their largest margin of victory in Williams Arena since a 13-point win in 2007. Murray registered his fourth double-double of the season with 25 points and 10 rebounds. He has tallied 20+ points 12 times, including six of the last seven games, and 25-plus points an NCAA-best nine times this season. Senior transfer Filip Rebraca had his first double-double as a Hawkeye (12 points and 12 rebounds).
The Hawkeyes had 10 steals, combining for a total of 25 in their last two victories (15 versus Indiana). Iowa outscored the Gophers 52-32 in the paint and outscored Minnesota 17-3 in second chance opportunities.
The Gophers were without two assistant coaches and four student-athletes (Eric Curry, Sean Sutherlin, Danny Ogele and Joey Kern) due to either illness, COVID-19 health and safety protocols or injury.
Student-Athlete Scarlet Knights
The Scarlet Knights continued to excel in the classroom in 2021-22. The team term GPA was 3.082 and the team cumulative GPA was 3.240.
Luke Nathan earned a perfect 4.0 in his graduate program courses.
