Beautiful architecture! Superb testament to Geneva's architectural, religious and national background. Worth a visit!
This small church is a bit off the typical path of tourists. It is walking distance from the Old Town though. It does have the traditional architecture of a Russian church. Upon entry, I found it dark and small. If you have not been to Russia, this is probably a good chance to see such a church. The fact that there is a Russian church in Geneva shows that Russians have been coming to the city for generations. It is still a functioning church.
The church is ridiculously hard to find and is not signposted. There appears to be extensive refurbishment going on and there was scaffolding all around the building. The church is much smaller than I expected. Entrance is 2 francs and whilst there is lots of symbolism and we regalia on show, you're really not going to be spending more than a few minutes here
Our tourist map showed this Byzantine-Moscovite style Russian Orthodox Church just off the main road near the Museum of Art History. We spotted it when we climbed up to the Observation Terrace. It was very easy to walk to, even from the waterfront. At this time, they are in the process of renovating the exterior, so you will find obstructions for your photograph opportunity. You can see the ornate golden onion domes
This church comes unexpected, both its architecture and location - a mostly residential area. This Russian Orthodox Church in Byzantine style has been a spiritual home to Russian immigrants and visitors for many decades, with a full schedule of services. The interior is decorated with icons, candles and a dividing-wall. The exterior, with the golden onion-dome cupolas, is simply stunning.
