There is something here for everyone. We especially liked the display on mummies. The dinosaur bones were interesting too!

This museum is almost unique in the fact that it is both a museum of natural history and of world cultures. If you want to do the museum ''properly' then plan on being there for the whole day. During the summer they have late events on Fridays. Part of the Toronto CitiPass.
There is so much to this museum, you need more than one visit. The Far Eastern exhibits are world class, as are the dinosaurs and the natural history section (e.g., more than one stuffed Passenger Pigeon), but there are lots of other things to see as well.
The design of the modern addition is daring. I think it's ugly but lots of people like it.
The only negative is there is nowhere decent to eat. There used to be a restaurant that closed, and the coffee shop in the basement was handed over to a local chain - Druxy's - which is totally disgusting. Surely they can come up with something better!
The ROM is huge and full of different galleries and displays. It it as complex of buildings, really, and not the easiest thing to navigate as a result, however, once you understand how it is laid out (and if in doubt, ask the volunteers) you can really enjoy it. It is impossible to see everything in a day. I am a member and even at that I think I`ve yet to see everything on display. And that's only part of their collection.
If you've been to the Met in New York, or the Neues in Berlin, or the British Museum, you might be a little disappointed - the ROM is absolutely smaller than them. However, it's got a phenomenal collection all the same, gets great traveling exhibits as well. Definitely something to visit while in Toronto - or if you're local, invest in a membership and take the whole year to do it.
Always a great time at the ROM. My boyfriend took me and we had such a great time. There is lots to see and lots of things to do. I a meager to return again because we had such a great time.
Staff members are around to help with directions, and were always eager to help. The museum is massive and there is so much to see.
Great place for a date, going with the family, or with a group of friends.
Would highly recommend.
We have been members of the ROM for years, and the kids have always loved 'the dinosaur museum' in its glitzy crystal renovation done a few years back. But the focus on the renovation had left out the real fun of the place, and leadership wasn't completely convinced that the ROM was for children. (I remember entering the elevator with the former Director, William Thorsell, who headed the Libeskind bldg design, and him asking us and our toddler if we were headed for the cafeteria. We said we were headed for the formal C5 restaurant upstairs - as was he - and he looks at us speechless and aghast!) C5 has since closed, and over the last few years, under the direction of the recently departed Janet Carding, the ROM really turned a page in engaging families. Our girls are 5 and 8, and now they love the minerals just as much as the dinosaurs. The new ROM app engaged the kids in a search and find that had them viewing 3D images and learning about items in the far corners of the First Peoples and China galleries. They have gone to lectures normally filled by adults on dinosaur excavations and the retrieval of a blue whale skeleton and were always taken seriously. A visit to the animal galleries started them on the journey of being 'Earth Rangers' with missions to help the environment when back at home. Old stand-bys like the bat cave, the Discovery Zone, and the search and find forest exhibit are still a must every visit ...but now the ROM has given them so much more. The dual or family membership is reasonably priced and worth every penny. We now go back often and never get tired of it. Thank you for such an amazing space for all ages!!
