New US Trailer for Sequel 'Force of Nature: The Dry 2' with Eric Bana

Force of Nature: The Dry 2 Trailer

"I know what it's like out there. I know what happens when things turn bad." IFC Films has unveiled the official US trailer for the Australian mystery sequel titled Force of Nature: The Dry 2, arriving in the US to watch this May (in theaters & on VOD). This crime thriller is a follow-up to the hit film The Dry (2020) continuing the story with the same character. Both of these star Eric Bana as a Federal Agent named Aaron Falk; in the first film, he gets wrapped up in a murder mystery when he goes to his hometown. In this next one, five women participate in a hiking retreat but only four come out on the other side. Federal agents Falk and Cooper head into the Victorian mountains hoping to find her still alive. Bana co-stars with Anna Torv, Deborra-Lee Furness, Robin McLeavy, Sisi Stringer, Lucy Ansell, Richard Roxburgh, Jeremy Lindsay-Taylor, Jacqueline McKenzie, Tony Briggs, & Kenneth Radley. The first one is fascinating and worth a watch, this second one looks just as good and just as compelling. What really happened to her?

First Trailer for 'Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person'

Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person Trailer

"It's an acquires taste. You'll end up enjoying it." Madman Films in Australia has revealed their trailer for an acclaimed dark comedy vampire film from Quebec titled Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person. This is a very good film! It premiered at the 2023 Venice and Toronto Film Festivals last year, and is still playing at fests this year including Wisconsin, Cleveland, and Miami coming up. Sasha is a young vampire with a serious problem: she's too sensitive to kill! When her exasperated parents cut off her blood supply (literally), Sasha's life is in jeopardy. Luckily, she meets Paul, a lonely teen willing to give his life to save hers. But their friendly agreement soon becomes a nocturnal quest to fulfill Paul's last wishes before day breaks. Starring Sara Montpetit as Sasha, with Félix-Antoine Bénard as the boy Paul, Steve Laplante, Sophie Cadieux, and Noémie O'Farrell. I raved in my Venice review: "What a great, bloody vampire gem, easy to watch and fall for, enjoyable in its simplicity with this concept." Keep an eye out for it.

While waiting as they keep working on the sequel to Across the Spider-Verse there's this to watch to help hold everyone over. Miles Morales experiences a panic attack that forces him to confront the manifestations of his anxiety and learn that reaching out for help can be just as brave an act as protecting his city from evil. Catch the entire short film in full below. Sony: "We are proud to officially debut The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story, in partnership with the Kevin Love Fund." This follow-up features Shameik Moore back as the voice of Miles, with Brian Tyree Henry as his father Jeff. The Spider Within was developed & produced in the inaugural year of Sony Pictures Animation (SPA) and Sony Pictures Imageworks' (SPI) Leading & Empowering New Storytellers (LENS) program. It turned out superb. Even if it is a bit different from the movies, this is still an important story to tell with Miles - worth a watch.

A Wild Tale of an Off-Grid Retiree Community - 'La Cha Cha' Trailer

La Cha Cha Trailer

"Sex 'n bugs 'n sausage rolls." ShineHouse has revealed a new official US trailer for a British indie comedy called La Cha Cha, directed by filmmaker Kevin Allen. After first premiering in the UK in 2021 during the pandemic, the film is set for a VOD release in the US this April a few years later. Liam Hourican stars as Solti Buttering, who is on a road trip to scatter his grandfather's ashes. Along the way he stumbles upon "La Cha Cha", a closed holiday park with a lively off-grid retiree community. Struggling to keep the place going, feisty owner Libby and brother Damien unveil an unconventional plan to sustain it and the residents. This also stars Ruby Ashbourne Serkis, Sonny Ashbourne Serkis, Dougray Scott, Alfie Allen, Keith Allen, Llyr Ifans, with Rhys Ifans & Melanie Waters. Even with an impressive cast, looks as kooky and as strange as they come. Not sure it'll appeal to many! You never know who might need a trip to La Cha Cha.

Full Trailer for 'Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead' Comedy Remake

Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead

"You're having parties without me?!" Call everyone - it's time to go wild. Iconic Events Releasing and BET+ have debuted the full official trailer for the Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead remake, arriving in theaters nationwide starting this April. The original Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead is an early 90s comedy cult classic featuring Christina Applegate. Produced by BET+, this fresh and sharp reimagining of the 90s wacky comedy is directed by Wade Allain-Marcus (French Dirty) and it will be in theaters before it's streaming. Simone Joy Jones leads in the iconic Christina Applegate role with an ensemble cast including Nicole Richie, June Squibb (playing the titular babysitter), Donielle Tremaine Hensley, Jermaine Fowler, and Ms. Pat, with newcomers Miles Fowler, Iantha Richardson, Gus Kenworthy, Tyriq Withers rounding out the cast. This plays better than the very short teaser, at least, and June Squibb looks hilarious. The rest of it just looks like a gigantic house party movie with all the typical, cheesy kids-go-wild shenanigans you'd expect. Didn't Ritchie Rich already do this better? I wish this looked funnier than it does.

Watch: 'The Colors of Alex Garland' Cinematography Retrospective

The Colors of Alex Garland

Another gorgeous new supercut video created & edited by the talented Luís Azevedo. The Colours Of Alex Garland (it's spelled "colours" because Little White Lies is a UK film magazine) is a supercut looking at the many colors and images in Alex Garland movies – a sci-fi visionary. They created this for the upcoming release of Alex Garland's latest movie Civil War, opening in theaters worldwide this April. Civil War is the fourth movie he has directed, following Ex Machina (2014), Annihilation (2018), and Men (2022); he also directed the series "Devs" (2022) for FX / Hulu. Before getting into directing, Garland also wrote the scripts for 28 Days Later (2002), Sunshine (2007), Never Let Me Go (2010), and Dredd (2012) - though none of these are included in this supercut. The video also uses the "ambient" color mode feature where a solid color appears around the video in the middle of the frame. Just makes me want to watch all of these movies again.

John Early & Theda Hammel in Wacky Comedy 'Stress Positions' Trailer

Stress Positions Trailer

"Be free! Fiction is freedom!" Neon has revealed an official trailer for a totally bonkers indie comedy titled Stress Positions, marking the feature directorial debut of trans filmmaker Theda Hammel (also of the series "My Trip to Spain"). This premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival in the Dramatic Competition section, and it's also playing at New Directors/New Films in NYC in April before it opens in select theaters later in April as well. Terry Goon is keeping very strict quarantine in his ex-husband’s Brooklyn brownstone while caring for his nephew — a 19-year-old model from Morocco named Bahlul — bedridden in a full leg cast after an electric scooter accident. Unfortunately for Terry, everyone in his life wants to meet the model – hilarity ensues. Starring John Early, Qaher Harhash, Theda Hammel, Amy Zimmer, Faheem Ali, and John Roberts. This awkward comedy is about a hodgepodge of queer people from NYC coming-and-going from this guy's apartment during the pandemic. One of my least favorite films at Sundance, I found it entirely insufferable & boring, but that's just my opinion and everyone else should make up their own mind.

New US Trailer for Ryusuke Hamaguchi's 'Evil Does Not Exist' Film

Evil Does Not Exist Film Trailer

"If you go overboard, you upset the balance." Janus Films has revealed an official US trailer for the latest film from Japanese filmmaker Ryusuke Hamaguchi called Evil Does Not Exist. After winning an Oscar two years ago for his highly acclaimed Drive My Car, Hamaguchi went back home and ended up making this smaller, much quieter little film that could be described as an eco thriller or even eco fable. Takumi and his daughter Hana live in Mizubiki Village, near Tokyo. One day, the village inhabitants become aware of a plan to build a glamping site near Takumi's house offering city residents a comfortable "escape" to nature. But it will disrupt the way of life for many of the local villagers, who ask for them to make changes. The film stars Hitoshi Omika, Ryo Nishikawa, Ryuji Kosaka, Ayaka Shibutani, Hazuki Kikuchi, and Hiroyuki Miura. This premiered at the 2023 Venice Film Festival, with stops at TIFF, NYFF, London and Chicago last year. It's now confirmed for a small US release this May if anyone is interested in catching up with this.

Official Trailer for Mexican Satire 'Down the Rabbit Hole' from Netflix

Down the Rabbit Hole Trailer

"Don't listen to everything your father says." Netflix has revealed an official trailer for a Mexican satire dramedy film called Down the Rabbit Hole, by Mexican filmmaker Manolo Caro. Down the Rabbit Hole is the alternate English title for this, also known as Fiesta en la Madriguera in Spanish, based on the book of the exact same name. Raised in opulence and culture, 10-year-old Tochtli's lavish life contrasts with the darkness that seeps in from his father's criminal activities. This is about a young Mexican kid who wants a hippo above all else. It reminds me of the story of Pablo Escobar's infamous "cocaine hippos", which might be part of the influence (or reference) for why this kid wants one anyway. Miguel Valverde Uribe stars as Tochtli, a particularly intelligent and precocious boy who at first glance seems to have everything, and when he doesn't, his father, Yolcaut, will do the impossible to fulfill his wishes, because Yolcaut can do anything. The film also stars Manuel García-Rulfo, Raúl Briones, Teresa Ruiz, Alfredo Gatica, Mercedes Hernández, Pierre Louis, Lizeth Selene, Debi Mazar, & Daniel Giménez Cacho. It's worth a look.
