On November 4, 1938, in Glen Mora, Louisiana, Judy Rose Molette was born to Largie and Gazetta Molette. Judy was the only child in this union. The family moved to San Francisco, where Judy spent most of her formative years.
She accepted Christ in her life at an early age and relied on her strong religious background and the power of prayer throughout her life. She graduated from Balboa High School in San Francisco, CA, and attended San Francisco State for her Undergraduate Degree. It was here that Judy was initiated as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. at Rho Chapter in 1958. She later went on to earn a Master's Degree in Education at San Jose State University in 1972.
While at San Francisco State, she met a much-needed math tutor who became her future husband through a mutual friend. On August 2, 1959, Judy married the very handsome and lifetime love Edward Hunter III. Judy and Ed moved briefly to Seattle and San Diego before settling down in San Jose, CA, and Los Gatos, CA. From their union, two children were born, Gaye and Edward (Eddie) IV.
Judy always enjoyed working with young people and knew very early in her career that she wanted to be a teacher. She spent more than 40 years as a life-long educator with the San Jose Unified School District. She was an elementary school teacher, a principal, and a media/library specialist.
Judy loved being an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and was in Eta Rho Omega (San Jose, California) for decades, and continued active membership in Rho Zeta Omega Chapter (Marietta, GA) and later Phi Phi Omega Chapter (Alpharetta, GA). She was a Golden Soror and enjoyed participating on committees, attending conferences, and community service projects. One of her cherished memories was pinning her daughter, Gaye, at her initiation ceremony into Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Inc. at Rho Chapter in 1981.
Judy and Ed moved from Los Gatos, California, to Cumming, Georgia, in 1999 to be closer to their grandchildren and children. She loved attending her grandchildren's school and sporting events and was their biggest cheerleader. She is a member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Roswell, GA, and volunteered in the church library. Judy was a member of CSLA, which focuses on library organizations for churches. She also enjoyed scrapbooking and was famous for her Gumbo, Peach Cobbler, and Sweet Potato Pie.
Judy departed this life on November 24, 2021. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Hunter, III. Judy leaves to cherish her memories, daughter Gaye Phillips (Trent) of Alpharetta, Georgia; son Edward Hunter IV (Charlette) of Roswell, GA; and her treasured grandchildren: Hunter Graham Phillips, Cole Trenton Phillips, Austin Miles Hunter, and Reese McKenzie Hunter.
