Mr. Thomas Eugene "Gene" Cagle, age 81, of Rome, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at a local hospital.
Mr. Cagle was born in Rome, Georgia on September 13, 1942, son of the late Thomas Cagle and the late Angie Wood Cagle. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Ferguson, by a son, Gayle Cagle, and by a sister, Martha Ann House. Mr. Cagle was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He was a hard worker all his life and during his career he worked at Celanese for several years, in construction with the Pipefitter's Local for several years, in insurance sales for several years, then returned to the Pipefitter's Local until his retirement. Mr. Cagle was of the Christian faith and was a Mason. He enjoyed working around the farm. Mr. Cagle was passionate about horses and was referred to as "A True Cowboy".
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Hamby Cagle; a son, Don Fleming (Wanda); a son-in-law, Mike Ferguson; four grandchildren, Amanda Owens, Meghan Henderson (Nick); Aaron Fleming, and David Fleming (Julie); six great grandchildren, Maycy Owens, Gage Owens, Kason Henderson, Taylor Fleming, Kaden Fleming, and Asher Fleming; nieces and nephews.
In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Cagle will be cremated, and no services will be held. Private interment will be at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
