Patricia Fanjoy Obituary

Patricia Ann Fanjoy, age 79, passed away Saturday August 19th, 2023, at her home in Rome GA. She was born on August 27th, 1943, in Hendersonville, NC to the late Fred and Myrtle Neal. She was preceded in death by her husband Adrian A. Fanjoy.

She is survived by her daughter, Julie (Rick) Ruth; her son, Adrian (Debra) Fanjoy; her 2 sisters, Nancy (Ronnie) Burgess and Alice Loeb; her brother David (Martha) Neal; her grandchildren, Ricky Ruth, TJ Ruth, Murdoch (Ashley) Ruth, Austin (Tayler) Ruth, Savannah (Bryant) Powers, Aaron Fanjoy, Michelle Fanjoy, Sean Burgess; 14 great grandchildren.

She was a member of Beech Creek Church until her passing.

Pat met her husband Adrian while attending Berry College. She graduated in 1965 and the newlyweds decided to make Rome their home and raised their family here.

Pat was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother; but also, a teacher. She taught children, almost exclusively 1st grade at Glenwood Elementary School, for 35 years leaving an undeniably positive impact on our community teaching more than 800 students in her career.

Many of those students became teachers themselves and several returned to her for their student teaching in the classroom that first inspired their love for the craft. Nothing made Mrs. Fanjoy happier than helping children learn and realize their own potential, especially at such a young age.

Pat loved her work. She cherished her fellow teachers, aids, staff, and administrators. Her colleagues in education became her extended family. Pat maintained connection with them through her membership in the AO chapter of the PEO. She enjoyed their gatherings the same way that families enjoy Thanksgiving. They shared a common goal to help people all over the world, and they had a little fun along the way. Pat's favorite PEO activity was buying various farm animals for remote villages.

After retiring, she and Adrian enjoyed traveling in fellowship with River City Ramblers and close friends seeing more of the world and its wonder.

Pat truly lived her life in faith, fellowship, and love. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, and daughter. But for those of you that called her Mrs. Fanjoy instead of mom, you must know that she loved you very much. She is proud of you. Please know that the happiest moments of Pat's life were because she truly loved being your teacher.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 22nd, 2023, at 3:00pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel (4900 Martha Berry Highway), with Pastor Keith Howell officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

Not sure what to say?

Ms. Fanjoy, Thank you for pouring your love of learning into each and every student you taught. I am forever grateful that you took the time to talk to me when I was a young (clueless) mother who desperately needed the kindness, and motherly advise that you so graciously shared. You were one of a kind, and we are all better for having known you.

I'm Pat's cousin Cathy (Neal) Riley. I remember all the families coming together at Sweet Mama's (Ethel Lola
[Hollingsworth] Neal) our grandmother, for picnics and Pat's father, Fred, taping it on his "new fangled" camera. All of the brothers, and one sister, lived on or around Duncan Hill so there was always a bunch of cousin's at Sweet Mama's and we would be outside playing game like Red Rover while our moms were in the house canning or making quilts. There were so many of us cousin's we always had enough to play all kinds of games. My whole family sends our love to all of her family, and God Bless y'all

I was blessed to be one of many Mrs. Fanjoy´s 1st grade students along with many others. She was a true blessing and my favorite. After all these years, I have so many memories. She didn´t stop being a role model at 1st grade, she continued to show love and compassion to all throughout our elementary years. My grandmother was also blessed to work with Mrs. Fanjoy and be part of her Glenwood work family. There is no doubt she touched the world, made it a better place and inspired her students. I didn´t follow in her footsteps as a teacher but I know she inspired me. I´m very sorry for your loss.

Mrs Fanjoy absolutely loved her students and continued to teach for several years after the date she retired. Even in retirement she still talked about education. What a gift she was to the Glenwood and Armuchee community. May our Savior and tine give you peace. I was blessed to have known Mrs Pat Fanjoy, teacher extraordinaire! I am away from Rome and sorry I cannot am sad I cannot attend her Celebration.
