"Cannibal Corpse is the Slayer of death metal, the AC/DC of death metal, and the Motörhead of death metal. Their sound has changed very little over the course of nearly 30 years, but their fans are some of the most dedicated in music. While they were never the most inventive band, they developed a sound and forged on. This band has become the biggest name in death metal, and an iconic figure for all musicians in extreme music."

Biography
The first album that was released by Cannibal Corpse was recorded after Buffalo death metal bands Tirant Sin, Beyond Death and Leviathan broke up. Released in 1990, the album was entitled Eaten Back to Life. The album cover was extremely gory and drew much controversy, as did their lyrics. Their next album, Butchered at Birth (released in 1991) was no exception. The artwork was banned in Australia and needless to say, many other countries. While being sold in the US, Butchered at Birth was placed in brown meat paper so it could not be seen. Cannibal Corpse made a brief cameo appearance in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.
Chris Barnes left the band in 1995 to pursue a different musical project. Rob Barrett also left the band and was replaced by Pat O'Brien. Barrett rejoined the band in 2005. Cannibal Corpse has been signed to Metal Blade Records since 1990.
