Here is our weekly Saturday look around the South Bay following a busy week on the football field:

Mira Costa’s Cole Crotty and Reese Leonard seemed to be everywhere in Friday’s 33-14 win over Mayfair.

Crotty hauled in three touchdown receptions and threw one …to Leonard and they both handled things on the defensive side of the ball.

“They’re either getting a rest on punt or kickoff returns, but they don’t leave the field very often,” Mira Costa coach Don Morrow said. “They’ve been tremendous. They were both tremendous last year. Reese got hurt late in the year, but they were both tremendous.

“We try to get them out of there once in awhile, get some water and rest, but they’re our two best receivers, our two best corners, obviously at the college level you can’t do that, but you can usually get away with it at the high school level.”

The duo have combined to catch seven of Nico De La Cruz’s eight passing touchdowns this season.

“He’s my guy,” Crotty said of Leonard. “We prepare together. I’m proud of his discipline and the way he prepares and I feed off of that.”

Mira Costa takes its high-scoring offense on the road next week, visiting Hart.

Inglewood flourishing on the road

Inglewood is again a team without a true home field this season. The Sentinels are playing their home games at El Camino College.

They’ve been road warriors so far in the nonleague, taking trips to Nevada, Carlsbad and next week Adelanto.

Husan Longstreet threw two more touchdown passes and rushed for another in the 35-18 win Friday against Carlsbad.

Lawndale interrupted by lightning

The Cardinals (1-1) had their game against Arcadia suspended with 9:10 left in the third quarter due to lightning strikes.

The Cardinals were up 36-7 and the results goes in the record book as a win.

Sean Weston had five rushing touchdowns for Lawndale.

Bishop Montgomery improves to 3-0

The Knights have already eclipsed their win total from last season.

Friday’s 54-0 win over View Park was their third consecutive to start the season, matching their win total in 2019.

Cody Graham rushed for 158 yards with four touchdowns and he added a receiving touchdown.

The Knights’ defense intercepted four passes (Cameron Brewer, Dominic Marchiondo, Ben Drewry and George Anderson).

Early look at Week 3

Leuzinger will finally play a game in the South Bay, but it is going to be against Long Beach Poly. The teams met last season with Poly winning 35-21. The Jackrabbits have defeated Serra and Mission Viejo in consecutive weeks.

Palos Verdes takes on another of Orange County’s toughest teams with a trip to Edison, Serra hosts Warren and star quarterback Nico Iamaleava and we have some tantalizing All-South Bay match-ups: Peninsula at West Torrance, North Torrance at Banning and Torrance at San Pedro.
