Four related fights at Riverside Poly High brought police and paramedics to the campus on Thursday, Feb. 29, officials said. They said there were no arrests or hospitalizations.
Principal Darel Hansen said in a message to Poly parents that three students fought before lunch, and then after order was restored, “this single event did spill over into lunchtime where three more altercations took place.”
That prompted the Riverside police officer assigned to the school to call for backup, said Officer Ryan Railsback, a Riverside Police Department spokesman.
Lunch was cut short as a result and students were returned to classes, Hansen said. He did not describe the cause of the fights or say how many students were involved, overall.
“Please remind your student of the importance of continuing to make positive choices through the rest of the school year,” Hansen told parents.
A public information officer for the Riverside Unified School District did not respond to questions concerning how many students were involved, or why they fought.
Capt. Paul Seawright, a Riverside Fire Department spokesman, said paramedics were sent to the campus twice Thursday. Students were examined and released to their parents, Seawright said. No students were hospitalized, he said.
Police patrolled the perimeter of the campus when classes let out for the day, Railsback said.
