We were on a small group tour when we stopped at the fossil shop. I thought the fossils were fascinating, but I've had some experience with fossils here in Indiana so I had something to compare these fossils to. The guide showed us the stone slabs and the way they were cut, polished, and the fossils highlighted. The store in itself was amazing, and the hotel we stayed in had slabs that the sink basins were set in. I wish I could have learned more about the area that the rock slabs were pulled from.

Excellent guide. Excellent specimens. Wonderful educational experience for the children and us adults in seeing the work and skill that go into extracting fossils intact. Great opportunity to purchase genuine fossils. If you are in the area, do try and pay this place a visit. It was set up by someone obviously passionate about the subject. Entry is free, so would encourage purchasing something here to support this museum.

A few kilometers on the road to Merzouga from Rissani you can find a new fossile "gallery" with a T-rex and other dinosaur skeletons in full view. Worth a stop, especially with kids. Please fix the name of the venue if I got it wrong.

I really didn't enjoy this visit. It was really just a selling opportunity and the guiding was commensurately perfunctory. I'm not that enthralled with fossils but I suppose, if you are then you might like it here. Some of the items for sale were extremely expensive and very tacky, in my view. I didn't even feel that all the items were genuine....might be quite wrong.
They did have a moderately clean loo though, so that was something!

Understanding the fossils, how they formed, how they were found, how they are made into everything from cheese trays to magnificent tables and fountains kept us mesmerized for several hours. After learning all this, we simply had to buy some items. They are now our favorite souvenirs of Morocco.

I didn't want to go, but went and was enthralled. A young man with great English gave us a history, geology and archaeology lesson.
Do yourself a favour and spend an hour here!
