My experience at Regis High School has been an incredible journey where I have had amazing exposure to subjects that will ready me for college. Regis has the best variety with its subjects allowing for a student to find exactly what path or career they want to pursue in college along with amazing teachers to guide them. My personal experience sits with that of Regis’ physics, chemistry, and math classes which really sparked my interest in mechanical and aeronautical engineering. I feel honored to have had the experience I did with the teachers who taught me and inspired me to strive in my interests.
Amazing, Being a parent at Regis is an amazing experience but the thing is it’s only boys but it’s a great school
Regis is a very prestigious school that focuses on academics. It is a tight-knit, supportive, and welcoming community because of its immense diversity and small school size. Teachers are very professional and personable. Students are focused on their academics and bond well with their classmates.
My son recently graduated. I am so pleased with the education he received, the friends he has made, and his overall experience. Regis takes the best of the best from the 5 boroughs and NJ/CT/Long Island. My son had boys in his class who commuted 2 hours to school each way. I was afraid that the school would be hyper-competitive with all these great students. I was surprised to find that it was the exact opposite. The boys helped one another. The students who understood the material would put together study guides or tutor the others. The atmosphere was one of Christian charity and helping others. Academically, I do not know of many, if any schools, which are better. Half of my son's class were National Merit commended or Finalists. My son has matured, has learned, and has made many great friends. I now understand why parents stay involved in this great school long after their sons have graduated.
It's hard to describe Regis in a short review, but since my graduation yesterday, I want to say a few words. If the sole reason of sending your child to Regis is so he can go to a high ranked college, look elsewhere. Like all places, Regis has negatives, but I can say with confidence that I don't regret attending. Sometimes the administration annoyed me, notably when trying too hard to be "politically correct", but it's not a huge complaint. Stories about academic difficulty hold true, but this reputation is not as extreme as often seen. Most classes require significant effort, and a few are very demanding, but a good amount are smooth sailing. The quality of teaching is fantastic. Some of the teachers I've learned from were some of the greatest people I've known. Socially, there's a place for everyone in this welcoming community, no matter your background. If you're a student who takes school seriously, consider applying. You don't have to be perfect, and you'll make friends for life.
I love how you can reach out to anyone at Regis and they will always be willing to lend you some help. I would like to see more funding from the administration toward STEM-related clubs.
Very demanding, close nit group or students, parents and alumni. Broad classical education with emphasis on languages, math and the sciences
As a current frosh at Regis High School, it is extraordinary. Regis is a Catholic high school for young men with a reputation for being one of the best education environments in the country while having a substantial history of placing many of its students into highly competitive colleges.
The admissions process is challenging due to Regis's adroitness and demands its best from its students. The curriculum requires students' concentration and management of themselves and their time to thrive while promoting independence.
The jump from middle school to high school was an impactful transition that left me in a shell-shocked state for some time as I was out of my comfort zone. However, the helpfulness and accessibility of the faculty and the kindness of the student body allowed that panicking moment of change to become a beautiful moment of growth. Not even a year has elapsed, yet I am thankful for my acceptance and decision to attend this school.

To prospective students - if you can get in, go. It's the only working meritocracy I've encountered.
To parents - it's rigorous and your child can handle it. Regis is an engine for adulthood and accelerates their growth into generous intellectually curious young men. It is a pipeline to all the good schools and upward mobility. Good luck.

Regis has its positives and negatives just like any other school. In my time here there was been several large changes to the schools administration and many administrators are new to Regis. When I started in the fall of 2019 the administration tried to restructure the school using the “strategic plan” which just seemed like an excuse for them to fire the most beloved teachers, many who had been at Regis for several years. Following a scandal there was a shake up in the administration and an interim president started. It was clear he cared about the community and showed he was ready to listen to students, which the previous administration seemed to be against. A new permanent president started this fall and he seems to be responsive to students and the overall school community. I have had a few not-so-great teachers but when I raised concerns I felt my voice was heard. One teacher was not hired for another year and the other teacher I voiced concerns about was replaced mid-year.
It's been a little time since I attended but if I am truly offering an honest opinion, I would have to say that this experience ranks among the most stressful and disappointing journeys of my entire life. Regis embraces a sink-or-swim mantra and many of the instructors I had appeared to relish their freedom to crush the egos and confidence of teenagers seeking a safe harbor. Worst of all, the administration seemed to be woefully out of touch with the needs of many of its students. Complaints of bullying and other abuse by teachers went unaddressed, and the faculty seemed largely incapable to adapting to individual learning needs and styles. I notice other reviews state that there is a feeling of community and support among students -- perhaps this is a recent development because this certainly was not the case during my time there. As a positive, however, all Regians graduate knowing that if they survived this school, they will find college to be easy.
Coming from the Bronx, I entered Regis High School feeling a bit disconnected from the ultra wealthy residents of the Upper East Side, but the family I made at Regis over four years erased all doubts of fitting in. The culture is second to none, and while rigorous, and at times overwhelming, the relationships I made with people I can now consider my brothers made all of the long nights I spent studying or writing papers worth it.
While most students gain acceptance to one or more top 25 universities in the country, there is greater emphasis placed on being a well rounded individual and a "man for others" than there is on our future, fostering an environment of brotherhood rather than competition. Although at times of high stress I may have thought otherwise, if I could do it over , I would choose Regis without hesitation, as I am truly grateful for my high school experience and for the guys I've met and grown with who I consider more family then friends.

Regis is truly a remarkable institution. Its level of rigor is not at all to be doubted by any means. While it is definitely a humanities-focused institution, its STEM program is without a doubt on the level of, if not superior to, schools like Hunter, Stuyvesant, and Bronx Science. It has a unique learning environment that naturally prizes intellectual achievement and growth, shaping individuals who are both exceptional students and immensely skilled thinkers and learners. In all, Regis excels in providing a Jesuit education, emphasizing all the aspects of "cura personalis," and in doing so, prepares its graduates to make a mark on the world.
Regis is not just a place for academic excellence, but a place where learning go hand-in-hand with personal development and a drive to be impactful. Peers are highly motivated and inspiring, while the dedication of teachers is obvious. I had an amazing experience, and now looking back as a senior all the hard work, long commutes and late nights were absolutely worth it. Regis has a culture where we are all highly supportive of each other and happy for each other's success. While everyone is highly driven, there is little competition amongst classmates because we understand that helping others make us better individually and collectively. While Regis won't have the excess of resources other NYC schools, the admin, teachers and students make the very most of prudently chosen opportunities. The full scholarship model has given me much greater appreciation of socioeconomic diversity and friendships that many would miss in other settings.
Rigorous Academic curriculum but definitely worth the effort and time. The teachers are very approachable and willing to help as long as you go to them for help.
great school. highly recommend. tough, but great people. i would apply here and come here any day. i took regis over stuy and i prefer it 10000000%. if you have a catholic son, apply!
Best preparation for college and career one could hope for. Strong strides in diversity but more to do; free tuition is an extraordinary benefit for accessibility. Dedicated and learned teachers.
Excellent school, great experience. Meaningful learning environment and very good teachers and staff.
Loved my time as a student. I am prepared for college because they taught well and gave me all the resources to be accepted to the best colleges.
Academics are rigorous but attending is a great opportunity and the location opens up many other opportunities.
