Frank Sinatra School of the Arts High School Reviews

As a junior vocal major at FSSA, I can say my experience has been amazing so far! So many in school and out of school opportunities as well as studio collaborations. I can definitely say it great prep for a college music conservatory or career.
Although this is a school for the Arts, it also has a rigorous academic program. I’ve enjoyed 4 years in the Vocal program, have been involved in school musicals, ensembles and also out of school performances. It has a great diverse student body.
I attended from 2018-2022, and I had a nice experience learning more about the field I want to pursue. Majors are a very good idea, it will enhance skill and help kids who choose to continue studying their major later on.
Best part is how kind SOME of the students are. Worst part is how a lot of students have a drinking and drug problem and the schools only solution to that is to keep bathrooms open for 20 minutes every period. There is tension and bullying but the teachers are oblivious. A lot of arrogance from students.
Excellent school. It is a loving, creative, diverse, supportive, and academically robust school serving students with a range of interests, backgrounds, and learning profiles. If you are the kind of parent who has been pressuring your child to achieve since they exited the womb please do us all a favor and send them to Stuyvesant or Brooklyn Tech- I love the grounded-ness and wisdom of the parent community at Sinatra and don't want it to change!
The school truly has an amazing school-wide culture; everyone is encouraged to be involved in the community somehow. The only thing that would be something to look at when thinking about the 'worst' part of my experience there is the late-start gearing up for college applications.
This school has many ups and downs. It is a safe place and have many wonderful staffs. However sometimes going to an art school is hard, because the art isn't always taken seriously. There would be many shows and sometimes without consideration that we also have to juggle with school. However we do get great training as a dance major.
The students are okay and so are the teachers. The school isn't amazing academically because it is focused more on the arts. Teachers could do a better job with being more open to tutoring and such. The administration is very stubborn though and oftentimes will not ask students for a consensus before instating policies that change our experience. Bathrooms and other areas aren't very well-maintained.
At Frank Sinatra it feels like a very welcoming community and very safe. It is a great place to progress in the arts, I am a dance major and I love it.
it’s an amazing school with a welcoming community and loving staff. everyone in the school feels safe and accepted for who they are. the building is kept clean and organized. the school is small but that means that the teachers are more focused on you and you can learn better. the teachers are understanding and take you seriously. academics are great, but this is an arts school. everyone in the school is so beyond talented. you walk down the halls and hear singing or a flute player practicing in the staircase. or an art major painting on the floor in the hall. we’re all friends at sinatra everyone knows each other and we all accept each other.
Going to the school is such an amazing experience. You get so many opportunities to sing and perform. You also get to do what you love in class. They also have visual art and it's amazing.
i was a film major, not a big fan of the teachers but the students were like a family to me. Beautiful and clean school in general, just some staffs were.... questionable
The staff and students are nice. The surroundings of the school makes it easy to navigate and have fun after school. The curriculum isn’t difficult and the school is pretty clean. The lunch room is pretty big and you can even eat outside on the garden.
My daughter is a vocal student at Sinatra and has had an amazing 4 years there! The growth I see in her from year to year is impressive.
In the heart of Astoria, Frank Sinatra School of the Arts is just a short train ride away from New York City. The people are welcoming, and the talent of the students is through the roof.
The PTA and parental support is excellent. The principal is great , very approachable!
My niece graduated from Sinatra before Covid and overall she had a very good experience. She was a dance major .
My youngest daughter is a dance major as well. She is a junior this year and she was very excited about a new dance teacher . Unfortunately the new dance teacher doesn't challenge kids at all . They are doing the same combinations every day .They are not learning anything new . They are not motivated to work hard . My daughter wants to persuade dance in college and she is so scared and worried that she will not be prepared for a college dance auditions ... My daughter doesn't dance outside the school . She left her studio when she was accepted to Sinatra as a freshman.
Now she regrets leaving her studio .
She said that the new dance teacher doesn't control the classroom . There is not structure or discipline . Some dancers are not even wearing a proper dance clothing .

The school gives a multitude of art academics and many outside school opportunities. The core education here is great, fulfilling my credits need to apply to college. Although some teachers could be more attentive and respectful to students, most are usually aware of students personal situations and also
