Ragnar Reach the Beach (RTB), happening Sept. 16-17, 2022 is more than a relay race; it’s an overnight adventure, yearly tradition and community celebration all rolled into one. And as always, NO volunteers are required.
Start your adventure in Bretton Woods, NH, where your team will run along alpine lakes, rolling hills, covered bridges and scenic expanses. From ski slopes to the beach, there’s nothing quite like New England in the fall, and you’ll get to experience every mile of it.
As the East Coast’s oldest running relay, this race boasts some of our best community support, with decorated exchanges, volunteers in full costume and even neighborhood block parties. We couldn’t ask for a warmer welcome for our amazing runners.
Finish the race at Hampton Beach, yes it’s really right on the beach, with your entire team crossing the finish line right along with you, cheering you on in celebration. Join the finish line party, complete with music, medals and fun and then dip your feet in the Atlantic Ocean to reflect on what you were able to accomplish.
Not quite ready for the whole 200-ish mile experience? The Ragnar Innovation Lab is bringing you an experiment that might be exactly your speed. Ragnar Sprint Reach the Beach — 1 day, 6 runners, 12 legs, 55-ish miles, all the fun of RTB. Check it out.

Ragnar Road Reach The Beach
Mike grew up in NH and lived there until he graduated from Boston University. He eventually settled his family in Hopkinton, MA...home of the Boston Marathon! Rich grew up in New York City but moved to Boston to begin a career in engineering. He became president of a local cycling club and started a multisport group within the club which is how he met Mike. Rich lived one town away from Mike and the two would often train together. Both guys had been involved in creating and promoting endurance events on their own. Mike started a MTB duathlon in NH while Rich started an MTB Triathlon in Hopkinton along with several other bike races. In 1998 Mike joined a team in the Hood to Coast Relay and had such an amazing experience that he decided to bribe Rich (with 2 beers) to convince him to design a similar event on the East Coast. In October of 1999, Reach the Beach Relay was born with 32 teams and is currently capped at 500 teams. In 2013, Reach the Beach and Ragnar partnered together and together we continue to work to make the Reebok Reach the Beach Relay the premier overnight relay in the East!
