The pictures for Kaiserreich leaders are far superior to pictures of leaders in base HOI4. Change my mind
Every time vanilla Hoi4 releases DLC i'll play one or two campaigns in that version. often the sole reason I do this is so I can get a leader into power who appears in Kaiserreich, for instance Henri the Count of Paris.

I think KR Puyi looks bad on purpose since he is a puppet of the Zhili. When he coups them out and asumes power he has a new and better portrait in military uniform
Puyi's post-coup portrait is really good
Yeah I think the whole point is to make him look bad on purpose to enfasize how after the coup he is stronger
I was part of a portrait overhaul and looked through the files. Lots of shit old portraits to be sure.
The new Hirohito looks cursed as hell
It could be worse
Wilhelm III is a soyboy in the first place, I mean Wilhelm II at least had the best beard in the entire world.
He only grew the beard after going into exile. If he had stayed emperor, as in KR, he likely would've stayed with the pointy moustache.
If I saw wilhelm III Kaiserreich portrait in my window when I’m sleeping I would freak out
Ah yes the cursed Wilhelm in exile
They should give willhelm the 3rd his "in the name of the Tsar" portrait with that big hat
I'm not sure if it's just me but the quality of the KR leaders seems to vary, but I think it might just be because not every leader had a good photograph to base their portrait on. Meanwhile, the base leaders were done in a fairly consistent artstyle to a reasonable level of quality, so in general I find them better. But with that being said, KR does minor nations better (the generic portraits tend to be quite underwhelming in the base game).
But we all know that Moereich is superior to both :)
They're deep in the uncanny valley for me, tbh. This is why I play with moereich despite not really watching anime or anything, the portraits are uncomfortable to look at and then stylized art is, well, not.
Vanilla's portraits don't do that to me.
Well vanilla has a distinct hand drawn style whereas I’m pretty sure KR portraits are just modified photos.
Someone: I don’t really like the portraits, they feel uncanny

Let's be real, the kaiser devs needed to get rid of fdr if they wanted to have a civil war in the US. Or atleast a civil war in the US that was in the realm of possibility.
shame he died like a bitch in the KTL. our wheely boi 😭
Not really, FDR was not some superhuman that was singlehandedly capable of steering the course of history regardless of circumstances. This sort of Great Man Theory historiography is generally a bad way of looking at past events
While I agree with you to a certain degree, it is likely that had he re entered politics (not dying of polio) with his name recognition and charisma he would have won in 1932 and implemented the New Deal counteracting the rise in radicalism, and preventing the civil war.
2ACW is very unrealistic. It's very well written such that it feels plausible in KR but nothing like that was ever remotely plausible IRL. FDR didn't prevent the second civil war. There was never a second civil war to prevent.
True
God I love reading about OTL Huey Long though. He was fucking terrifying.
American support of England/France and their entry into WW1 directly led to the imprisonment and suppression of all socialist elements from the United States. Pretty much anybody who had any capability of leading a socialist movement in the United States was either arrested or monitored so heavily that they were effectively incapable of forming a movement. Without a successful Russian Revolution the persecution that already existed during WW1 would have never been turned up to 11 either.
With another collapse and no relief in sight yeah I totally believe those forces could tear America apart. Not necessarily the way they go in KR but in the very least mass national insurrection would not have been off the table.
I mean Eugene Debs, one of the founders of the IWW, had to run for president from PRISON because he and many other Socialists were behind bars for speaking out against the war. In a lot of ways this also led to the blunting of the Union movement in America as well as many of those who were locked up were union leaders and passionate union members who likely would have been future leaders.
It’s unrealistic till it happens, history seems inevitable looking back but history turns on those little twists of chance. The Great Depression is definitely the most volatile and likely time for an American civil war or revolution to break out, certainly J Edgar Hoover was frightened enough during the first red scare.
Isn't it possible that worker strikes and revolts end up in violence that escalates in a revolution and thus, a civil war?
In real life there were massive worker strikes and even conflict with armed forces in that era. But none of them ever really lead to armed revolution, usually they end in compromise, or if they become too disruptive the public turns against them. In actuality, the set up to the American civil war is unlikely to happen because Long or Reed’s platforms would probably be absorbed by one or both of the major political parties. The democrats and republicans have constantly swung on issues to match popular support. This is more or less what FDR did, but there was nothing super special about him that meant it had to be him. There’s no reason why the democrats or republicans couldn’t adopt enough of the policies well enough for the vast majority of people to support either of them, thus keeping the other parties fringe like they were in our timeline.
I mean not really, revolutions dont just spontaneously combust. People need to have grievances strong enough, organize, arm themselves, and decide to revolt. Riots have almost never spontaneously led to a full scale revolution. Of course these conditions exist in KR America, but that's the part that's pretty unrealistic if you dig into it, but its written to feel realistic. That's not even how it goes down in KR.
Not really, no. At least not in an organized state. Revolutions happen through palace coups if the state is still strong. Only after periods of prolonged instability do civil wars occur.
In the US, the war is way too sudden to make sense.
You can look at Europe at the end of WW1, almost all countries had some form of socialist or other kind of rebellion. But only in Russia did this turn into a real revolution. (Italy almost had one though). And I dare say America is in a far better position in KRTL than a lot of Europe was after WW1 (both in actual situation and in the political system that has to deal with the unrest)
but in order to have at least some justification for the second acw you would have to get rid of fdr.
Possibly or he would have lost to someone like huey
Maybe, but isnt it said that Huey lost the democratic nomination in 1932 and that's why he broke with the party? If that's true, then I dont think he would stand a chance against FDR in a race for the nomination. As for FDR winning, maybe Long would form a separate party, but given OTL 1932 I think even if FDR lost the entire South he would still probably win the election. Last time I checked the only state won by the socialists in 1932 was New York. FDR would win his home state and would probably draw socialists back to the Democrats in general, Long leaving to form his own party in 1932 would seem a childish reaction to him losing the primary. That and FDR proposing similar legislation to Long would leave Long with little influence (and Long would have little time to build up election infrastructure). This would lead to FDR implementing the New Deal just like OTL. With Long's anti establishment rhetoric seeming hollow as an establishment party was implementing similar reforms to what he proposed (in OTL Long was literally like an authoritarian FDR), and the socialists talking points defanged radicalism would be countered and the civil war avoided.
Long didn't run in the 1932 primary. He supported FDR that year.
And he wasn't just an authoritarian FDR because:
a) The reason they fell out was that Long felt the New Deal didn't go anywhere near far enough (he once said it had "every fault of Socialism" but not "one of its virtues")
b) Authoritarian FDR is just FDR.
Are you talking about KTL here? FDR won New York OTL in 1932. The Socialists have never won any states in a presidential election. Their strongest presidential bid was in 1920, and even then they recieved less than 1 million votes.
Ok fair enough
The difference between otl and KR is how much worse the whole world economy is, the collapse of the British empire and default of all WW1 debts in 1925 set the stage for a far worse depression, that and a stronger German scare detracting attention from various socialist organisations makes KR America way different politically and economically.
FDR may have been able to do something about this if was alive but stuff like a more radical and influencal huey long, the german economic collapse and the red belt being made far too radical and revolutionary likely means even he'd struggle to curb all these problems, having hoover win the default vote in 32 just helps justify the disaster getting worse and worse.
I'm inclined to say he is one of the greatest presidents America produced. Coupled with the fact that the office of president has immense potential for power if placed in the hands of a competent man, and coupled with the fact that the 30s and 40s was a period of great change and potential for America, a time when a man could really make his mark on the world.
All this, I must say that if there's such a thing as a great man that moves history, FDR would be one of those men.
Great Man Theory is still stupid though, it is meant more to inspire people to greatness, than to be a way of doing history.
Great Man history became popular because it's easy and useful for building a national mythology.
A small price to pay for salvation.
A Roosevelt for a Roosevelt
I miss him...
Which Roosevelt is this?
I think an older portrait of Quentin Roosevelt, who's uncle's daughter (Eleanor Roosevelt) was married to FDR. It could also be the Quentin Roosevelt II, which in that case just replace uncle with great-uncle.
So in-game, its the first Quentin Roosevelt, Teddy's son. But until in the past year or so the mod uses his nephew's image since the first one never grew old.
Damn, that's wheely sad
A Roosevelt for a Roosevelt
Nice
ITT: Alf would have ended the depression in mere months and won world war 2 in a year
It was fuckin worth it
Fuck FDR
Don't get why this is downvoted. He literally imprisoned my grandparents and great grandparents in concentration camps with no trial.
No u
He literary put minorities in camps
Then stole all their shit and auctioned it off. And when the war was over, oops sorry another family lives in your house now and your old neighbour is using your grandma's urn as a vase.
Actually don't know if this was the case in the US but definitely a part of Canadian history.
And Churchill was extremely racist against Indians, but you cant ignore the fact that he essentially pulled the US out of the great depression and through most of our involvement in WW2
And you literary didnt learn history
He singed executive order 9066 that forcefully removed Japanese people from their homes into interment camps for an indefinite amount of time. Not only is there no constitutional authority for an executive to do this it is also completely mortally unjustifiable. Any positives that might have come from his presidency would not justify the horrific civil rights abuse that his administration lead. FDR was a monster that should not be admired in US history.
"The abillity to speak does not make you intelligent"
Bruh, are you denying Japanese internment? Because of threats of court stacking breaking the scotus to his will, some of the worst scotus cases in American history took place in that time. Korematsu v Us is one, but also bullshit like Wickard v. Filburn
Yes i now know better. It was wrong of me to deny it. I know i am late, but i think i need to own up to this. Im sorry
God fucking dammit I hate FDR so fucking much. Look at his shit eating grin, acting like he solved the Great Depression. If Hoover hadn't been dog shit as well, everyone would see just how terrible FDR was. I can't wait until the boomers all cash their social security checks all at once and everyone sees that statist's magnum opus come crashing down. The streets will sing of freedom and untreated life threatening diseases. I wish the Nazi's invented polio earlier so this fuckwit didn't drown the free market in an alphabet soup of bureaucracy served with a side of red tape. The New Deal and WWII sent us spiraling into a mental state where supreme federalist power is the norm and the government is what protects us. We still have not recovered from this sickness which makes FDR's actions even more heinous. Ever since his reign of terror upon the American people, and the world, the Oval Office distributes executive orders like fucking candy and the US military involves themselves in imperialistic and unimportant conflicts. Fuck this fucking dumbass.
Mam, this is a Wendy's
I cant tell if this comment is supposed to be an over the top joke or if it's serious
It's just an econ major who went a bit crazy, don't mind him.
I get the feeling that it's real, believe it or not, there are people who severely hate FDR despite the great things he's done.
Like extending the Great Depression, massively expanding executive and federal power, and raping the constitution?
"Extending the Great Depression."
How?
"Raping the constitution"
What part of the constitution did he specifically violate? Cite the article and the instance of violation.
Raping the constitution is something I’ve only heard weird radicals say
Japanese internment is a clear violation of the 14th, and the commerce clause was bent to some bullshit (interstate commerce can now include products grown on one farm for the farmer’s own consumption or for sale in his/her local community). Both of these were upheld in the Scotus (Korematsu v. US and Wickard v. Filburn respectively) because FDR literally threatened to put more judges on the scotus until they voted his way, which is not strictly unconstitutional but it is bullshit
edit: there's also the general expansion of federal and executive power, which erodes the principle of separation of powers and the 10th amendment. Not strictly unconstitutional in many cases, but goes against the spirit of the damn thing
I'm almost certain I've seen this exact comment posted over in politicalconpassmemes by a yellow flair, so its probably a copypasta, but one that came from someone who genuinely believed it
Just gonna say this, FDR isn't the reason the US is imperialistic and involved in unimportant conflicts, you can blame Wilson for that one. Also, Baby Boomers have already cashed their social security checks, multiple generations have actually.
honestly we’ve been involved in imperialistic and unimportant conflicts since Wilson, possibly even earlier than that. our country is literally built on imperialism
Everything is so wrong in this post. For exampel, its becouse of wodrow Wilson that the u.s is involved in so many wars nowdays, not fdr. Get facts straight.

Never was fan of FDR, so it's total win for me.
Okay Landon
A man of culture. I'm much more happy with the TR line of Roosevelts bein in KR then FDR.
Nobody cares about your opinion here.
