Visiting Quebec City in December is our favorite time. The snow is up to the windowsills and there’s a fire roaring in the fireplace, from mid to late December until around the first of March.

For those who relish winter activities, Quebec City offers a number of options. Ice skating at Place D’Youville, (pictured below) dog sledding through the snowy forests, and tubing down exhilarating slopes at Village Vacances in Valcartier are just a few of the thrilling adventures that await you.
Quebec’s culinary scene is world-class throughout the year, and December is no exception. Savor hearty meals in cozy restaurants like Le Lapin Sauté, where french dishes and warming soups take center stage. Don’t forget to indulge in a steaming cup of café au lait (coffee with cream) or a bowl of chocolat chaud (hot chocolate) while strolling the snow-dusted streets.
If you’re looking for something hearty consider Le Petit Chateau for some original swiss fondue.
Christmas Market

The grand Fairmont Château Frontenac Hotel at left becomes even more majestic in December. Its turrets and spires glisten with frost, and the interior exudes warmth and elegance. The Chateau is comparatively empty in December, so it is a wonderful time for a weekend visit because you’ll have the hotel more or less to yourself. But even if you’re not staying here, a visit to this historic gem, the most photographed hotel in the world, is a must.
