We followed the path behind the visitor center since the main path along the cliff was closed just before the falls. A helpful sign was posted in front of the visitor center warning of the closure.
The fall that April morning was roaring and quite impressive. From the top you could see the speed of the water flow and the roar as it went over. Next to the zip line was a lookout that was not very busy but was the best location for a frontal view. At the bottom of the falls we could not get too close as the viewing area was closed. However, from the path we could still feel the force and feel the resulting spray as the falls hit the bottom. Others continued up the stairs towards the top of the falls.

- TERRAvelistaLondon, UK17,562 contributionsTo reach the lower town you either take the funicular from the Dufferin terrace for 5 CAD one way/per person (the entrance is located inside the glass square houses right near the statue - don't forget to press on the door to access this area) with the capacity of the funicular of max 6-8 people and going every minute, reaching the old town in 1 minute.
The other option is to walk all the way here, if you have the energy, and immerse yourself in more touristic attractions with lots of over prices cake shops/ice cream shops/nougaterie or restaurants and fashion shops far detached from the French or European fashion though.

We have been to many cathedrals but the ceiling/vault (?_) had a beautiful purplish tint and imparted it such an amazing pious quality that made you truly appreciate that you were in a sacred space. We didn’t go into the museum but did just walk around the areas that we could and it was spectacular. Definitely worth a stop by if you’re in the area. This from a woman who's been to Paris (twice!), Rome, and Rio de Janeiro. The colonial buildings around it are close to you, but they don't push in on you; they just add elegance to the scene. It's small, not grand like Piazza Navonna, but it's one of those small spaces that glamorizes easily. When we went, the Place was done up for the Holidays; but I see in Google Images that they do it up for spring and summer, too. Add some tables and umbrellas in the summer, and suddenly it's the French cafe culture. You could spend fifteen minutes here or an hour. I would think this would give it protection from aerial attacks. The perimeter is also surrounded by a significant moat probably 30 meters wide by 30 meters deep. I would think that this would give it protection from ground assault.
It’s also the place where the battle for everything was lost by the French. The French failed to adequately defend the top of the cliff. Later, on the plains, the French were too hasty to attack and met double musket ball fire from the British. There was a free coat check and we grabbed our official tour book from the rack on the opposite side. Only French language tours were available the day of our visit.
Some of the highlights we liked from the tour were the following
Blue Room - I had to turn off my cellphone before being allowed inside.
Le Parlementairo - formal dining room with a beautiful stained glass tunnel entrance
Ocular - in the basement with a view up
Library
The Red Room was closed for renovations and the guard could not give a timeline.
Politics was not my favorite subject but the exhibits did a good job in explaining Quebec’s system and comparing it to other countries like the US, France and UK.
We learned a lot during our time on site so well worth a visit. We were met by a guide in period costume who explained a lot of the history that it had been a prison. We got to see the converted cells - and it was definitely not somewhere you wanted to be. A nice old library - quaint.
