Enjoyable and away from bustle of Paris
We entered on the side of Napoleon's tomb and enjoyed going over the history. The gift shop sells small booklets on historical figures for children which the kids enjoyed. We exited on the North side and read the history along the way. Beautiful monument and resting place for the injured soldiers. A lovely monument in the heart of Paris with a noble purpose.

    Don't miss this!
We did not allow enough time to visit this huge place! The Dome and crypt with Napolean's tomb are impressive, the audio tour was great. We visited the large display area about the French resistence during WWII....wish there were more plaques in English, but it was still very good. The audio tour just does not include everything that is there! We had museum tix for the afternoon, so had to leave. I am really sorry we did not have time for the other parts of this museum!

Impressive ( and great for kids)
Went to see the WWI and WWII museum which was closed from Jan to June (no signage at admission - thanks very much) so got shut out. Opted for the Medieval armor collection which was so over the top. No doubt biggest in the world. You can walk past the windowed storerooms and see literally scores of full suits of armor, hundreds of helmets, spears, swords, axes. Who knew!!

Need plenty of time - Much to see
We were very limited on time so really only saw the tomb of Napolean and Saint Louis Cathedral. We did not mind paying the admission just for that area but would love to have had time more time to see the rest of the museum. We might have rearranged our plans had the WW1/WW2 exhibits but unfortunately those areas were closed for refurbishment. I think that even if military history is not your area of interest, you would find much to interest you here.

    Wonderful Experience
I enjoyed my time here. I got there when it opened and had no problem in terms of waiting or crowds. Inside, I marveled at the collection of antique arms and armor. The WW1 and WW2 sections were breathtaking. I wish I had time to see some of the other parts of this museum complex. Be advised: Many of the different sections here require separate tickets but the Paris museum pass covers all of them.

    Excellent Museum
The building is out of this world, the detail is incredible. It is a mixture of a museum and two magnificent churches. You will need at least 3 days to visit, the time they suggest is completely unrealistic. There is so much to see it is overwhelming. There is an exhibition about the brave people of the resistance and the liberation of France, absolutely fascinating. There is a whole basement dedicated to General De Gaulle. If like me you are English, then you may not have been taught much about the part Churchill played with General DeGaul, with the Resistance and the liberation of France in London for 4 years. If you get the audio, be aware that there is absolutely tons in it, and very messy. There is no particular order and difficult to follow. Also, the audio only covers some cabinets in the museum, so if you cannot read French, then will only be able to look at other items on display. I will definitely be going again as I was not able to see everything this time round in the time we had.

    Well done military museum
The grounds and architecture are amazing. The World Wars Exhibits are very well done and the collection of artifacts, uniforms, firearms and photos are the best I have ever seen in a military museum. Learned a lot about French President DeGaulle he was a true leader and gave his country hope.Thank God though for the USA to come and save Europe from Hitler. Also in France they are very proud of Napoleon and his tomb is only dwarfed by the Pyramids in Egypt. .

    Napoleon's tomb alone is a must-see
The building is so beautiful and Napoleon's tomb is incredible. Your pictures won't fully capture it! It's also a military museum so there's a lot more to see than just the tomb. I strongly recommend you set aside more time than you think to fully explore. The only section we were not a fan of was the interactive digital exhibit for Charles de Gaulle. It felt overwhelming and hard to read everything with so much going on.

    Jaw dropping
I have spent much of my childhood in Paris and also travelled frequently as an adult yet I had never seen Napolean’s tomb. The museum was closed until 1400 hours due to Macron having a special event but once inside the queue was quite reasonable. I had the opportunity to visit musée de l’armee but due to spending 3 hours in the area waiting for the museum to open, I opted to go straight to Les Invalides. As I walked in, I was in utter awe of the beauty and power of the space. It was opulent, classically stunning and just had an amazing presence to it. The gold, the design the workmanship was truly a sight to behold and I was blown away. It exceeded any expectations that I had. The next time I am back in Paris, I shall visit the museum.

The Best Thing We Did in Paris!
This was the best thing we saw in Paris. Endless things to see. The Dome and tomb were spectacular. The museum was superb. The bit about Napoleon in the museum kept going. Great if you have family who have an interest in it. You get to the end of one section and there is another huge section to look at.

Went to Napoleon's Tomb first on recommendation to avoid the crowds in the morning. Impressive and very "Imperial". Glad that I went when there was hardly anybody there this alone was worth the visit. After a cup of tea at the cafe went to see the galleries dedicated to the Louie and Napoleonic wars and the cavalry. Loved it. Nice displays with good explanations in multi languages. Specially enjoyed the audio visual displays the showed the movements during the day of various units during important battles. Later visited the medieval and armory galleries as per recommendation. Then finished with the WWI and WWII galleries which were rather disappointing. Mostly pictures and photos with very limited background info. I was warned about it and expected it. On a whole well worth a visit but skip the WWI & WWII galleries and concentrate on the others.
In short a day well spend.

We didn’t leave our hotel planning to visit this museum, we literally wandered along Rue de Varenne after a light lunch at Cafe Les Flores on Rue de Bac, and there it was, just after Musee Rodin (closed) and a little park!
The French military history we picked up was fascinating (probably more so had we done a formal tour, but we just wandered—my favorite was seeing all the weaponry and uniforms!) as was the church (so ornate, just beautiful) and of course Napoleon’s tomb (it is gigantic!) was the last stop before we wandered back out.

As with any other museum, one could go back again and again and still learn new things! A very worthwhile experience!

As I write this, it was a year ago today we returned from a magical 6 days in Paris...and how the world has changed...I hope this review inspires others to brave travel again. For us, we will return to the City of Lights just as soon as we are able.

à bientôt!

Our visit here was fantastic. With a military fan in the family this was a day well spent. We all enjoyed the exhibitions and display, something for everyone, the artwork was wonderful.
Thought the chapel with napoleons tomb was quite spectacular.
Cafe reasonably priced, museum staff really helpful

We went using the museum pass, which I’d definitely recommend.

this is not just one museum but several; we walked to the area down grand boulevards and parks to see the magnificent building started by Louis XIV for veterans and wounded soldiers. It has a huge military history collection starting in the middle ages but with particular attention on Napoleon (but certainly not solely). The artwork all along is amazing.
Then there is the Dome Church and Napoleon's tomb - a must see. And tucked away in one wing is the Museum of the Resistance (not as well developed or curated as the rest of the displays but incredibly emotional.
Don't skrimp on time here.

The imposing structure of Invalides with its golden dome looks best just before the most beautiful Alexander III bridge.
Approaching it you'll realize how huge and imposing this edifice is.
Built as a veterans residence and a hospital by Louis XIV it's now one of the biggest military museums in the world.
Museum pass is accepted, so you'll save some money and time to enter it if having one which I suggest.
Plan at least 3 hrs to see it properly - many astonishing rooms with armors, weapons, paintings and of course - Napoleon Bonaparte tomb beneath the dome.

We crossed the Pont de Alexandrie III bridge and enter a wide avenue with a grand building at the end. This is the Army Museum (or Musee deL'Armee) which is a military museum. There are a few sections to the Army Museum spread across 2-3 floors. One section showed the french military in miniature figurines, scaled down size weaponry, another section showed the war campaign and life of Nepoleon Bonarparte while another showed the WWI and WWII history. A lot to see so be prepare to spend 1/2 day here.

World history summed up in arms and armor! There is an overwhelming amount to see in this museum as we walked through the many rooms and exhibits. We spent about 2 hours at this location and could have spent lots more. When booking the tickets, we were told the audio tour was not working but we saw others with them. It clearly would have enhanced the experience if we had some description. However, even without those descriptions, there is so much to see.

We are not big fans of the military and had a couple of hours to spare before our Eiffel Tower reservation, so we just dropped in to see Napoleon's tomb, Museum Pass in hand. It was a rainy day in early August and we didn't wait in any lines. It is an amazing "Church of the Dome", the tomb with the 12 statues of the "Victories" all around is really breathtaking! Napoleon's son, Napoleon II, is also buried there, as are Napoleon's two brothers, Joseph and Jerome. The visit was well worth our time!

Musee de l’Armee des Invalides is one of the most important museums of France and is part of a large complex housing museums and other monuments. This one showcases French military history and it also contains a number of tombs of important historical figures, one of which is Napoleon's. Absolutely worth visiting.

I went with a friend to see the army museum in Paris the last week which is certainly my favorite museum. How happy I was to discover a new exhibition dedicated to special forces. I have no words to describe the dive in this so secret universe.
plan two hours to visit the exhibition that traces the first SAS to the current special operations command. The profusion of material available to the public traces the evolution of French special forces from the Second World War to the wars of decolonization and the Balkans in 90’s. It also shows their deployment in the Middle East and ends with Operation Barkhane.
I really advise this temporary exhibition which deserves the displacement by the quality of the contents and by the profusion of exposed material.
