I truly had a better-than-imagined vacation at Club Med Punta Cana and am only disappointed that I didn’t discover it sooner!

CIRCUS

I had a somewhat unique reason for dragging my entire family all the way from California to the DR, which was the renowned circus program that goes levels beyond the ones at other Club Meds. I didn’t realize that their partnership with Cirque De Soleil has ended so upon arrival I was a bit panicked that I’d miss my opportunity to try aerial arts, but the accommodating team made it happen and I fell in love with flying trapeze too after swearing that I wouldn’t get obsessed with someone I couldn’t easily keep working on at home (oops!).

I really made circus arts, and being a groupie to the circus team, the focus of my week and I had the time of my life – while my family members spent hours on poolside lounge chairs I had a rhythm of practices to get to and performances to see. I joined a merry crew of fellow amateur circus skilled guests and we cheered each other on with gusto. The circus team is exceptionally adept at meeting everyone at their level: they cheer on the shaky first-timers and give the competitive amateurs (me) enough supportive coaching to make some progress and be challenged.

I also appreciated that the management clearly treats the team humanely and good management always shows – it was obvious that they had breaks to catch their breath and their own time to train, which was also a treat to watch. My favorite part was watching talented dancer/fitness teacher Jader train up with the team even though he’s not technically circus team (yet! Go Jader!). Everyone rocked but I have to shout out to Renee whose friendliness and approachability was a bright spot, Kiko whose playful spirit made me laugh daily, and Ricardo who could take me seriously enough for real feedback but laugh it off if I failed to follow any of his good advice. Next time I will make that damn splits catch!

PROGRAMS

Even though I spent tons of time at circus, all of the other programming happening simultaneously was run phenomenally well. The fitness buffs had Melanie’s hilarious heckling and Jader’s quiet support for day after day of good workouts at the beach. I never even saw the tents courts but my parents were there constantly and loved the tournament organized by the pro. Even the casual ping pong area had the occasional competition that gathered a small crowd. For people like me who cannot sit still, there was always something new to try being led by a patient organizer – beach volleyball, kayaking, archery, and so much more. And for those who just wanted to sit on a chair by the sparkling waters with a cocktail and doomscroll on their phones, well, that was constantly available too :).

ENTERTAINMENT

I thought that I had relentless energy but the entertainment team has more. There are GOs (lingo for the Club Med staff organizers) running all over the place starting pool parties, leading trivia contests, dancing at the beach, and even throwing a foam party (don’t miss it midday on Friday!). Evening shows are genuinely fun and add such a nice rhythm to each day, giving everyone a reason to have a leisurely dinner and hang around afterward. Some were traditional “shows” and others were a mix of show/party full of GOs out on the dance floor teaching everyone the Club Med choreographed dances that make everyone feel part of sharing something together. I also felt like things leveled up nicely over the course of the week, sweeping up GMs (lingo for guests) into the party/summer camp spirit.

SOCIAL

It was a joy to see kids of all ages running in packs – the Kids Club programs was clearly skilled at helping children make friends and providing enough structure to keep their days busy and fun. Both of our kids were old enough to be “independent” which meant that they got special wristbands to come and go from kids programming as they pleased, and that was a great learning experience for them. For us it was easy to meet other families but since we were traveling with our own intergenerational group we mostly hung out together (aside from the circus friends I dragged along whenever possible). The mixing of GOs and GMs is a unique part of Club Med and creates a special community vibe – everyone eats at the same restaurants so don’t be shy about inviting them to join you, most of them really appreciate the invitation!

ACCOMMODATIONS

We were so glad that we went with a basic (“family superior”) room because it was a perfectly clean, simple, well-appointed room that we hardly spent any time in! Walking to and from the main activity centers wasn’t bad, and if we were tired there was always a golf cart shuttle available to hail. Weirdly there were hardly any bugs at the entire resort – no idea how that’s possible but for my nature-averse kiddo it was a joy not to have to chase off creepy crawlies or swat away mosquitoes. A few of us got a couple of little bug bites but barely noticed.

There’s a good deal of construction going on at the resort but it truly didn’t hinder our good time at all. Like everything they do, they’re thoughtful about the guest experience and hid construction areas behind palm fronds and limited noise to certain hours. It will clearly be worth the upgrades – even though the rooms were great they’re definitely not “new” – and I think it resulted in a less-crowded resort for our visit.

FOOD

We are admittedly food snobs and were all exceedingly happy with food options at Club Med. With one of their dining rooms under construction most meals we ate were at the big buffet restaurant (Samana) which had all of the benefits of a buffet without feeling like “buffet food.” I had the good sense to note what the GOs were eating and they always went straight for the inner circle of plated foods which were restaurant-quality entrees assembled as a full meal . . . beautifully done and quickly our favorite stations. Most of my family preferred switching it up with Indigo for lunch, and their beachside location is phenomenal, but I loved my local high-quality rice-and-bean style lunches at Samana and the fact that they always had great cakes there during lunch!

The fruit was always a star too – I regret waiting too long to try what looked like bruised bananas but I’m telling you, peel those open and they are truly the sweetest, most flawless bananas I’ve ever had and we hoarded them like crazy for afternoon snacks. I am an extreme passion fruit fan and, coming from somewhere where a single passion fruit can cost $5+, I was stunned to have as many as I wanted and basically had one with every single meal. No need to grab the whole fruit plate, they’ll slice up just one passion fruit anytime :).

Drinks were great, and you could grab them from so many different spots as well as poolside service. Some good ones: El Capitan Hook (something with banana), Dominican Punch (passion fruit!) and a piña colada is always a must-have.

EXTRAS

We loved the roving photographers everywhere who caught so many great moments of our family all over the place doing different activities – we were very happy to purchase a bunch of them at the end of the trip as well as schedule a family photo session. We also had a phenomenal day on the water on a boat cruise – it wasn’t excessively expensive (about $120/person) and included 4 hours boating through shimmering turquoise water, snorkeling, having drinks from a “floating bar” in a shallow sandbar, and eating a delicious grilled lunch right on the boat. Highly recommend!

CONS

We have so few complaints but just a few minor things to note. Part of their bug-free environment is clearly due to staff never allowing food to sit out, but for slow-eaters or snack-hoarders you have to hold onto your food before it gets taken away. There were weirdly a very small number of kids in my kids’ age ranges (10 and 12) so they didn’t get to make any real friends but my guess is that’s somewhat luck-of-the-draw but I’d bet that the huge amount of very young kids and a smattering of teens is pretty normal.

TIPS

- bring lots of small denomination bills even though tipping is NOT expected – housekeeping clearly appreciated that we left them a few bucks every day and so did the golf cart drivers when we caught rides
- bring some higher denomination bills (20s) for pros like boat trip leaders and family photographers if you do any of that
- resist the temptation to upgrade on rooms – you should be spending hardly any time there!
- go visit the adults-only area (“Zen Oasis”) at least once even if you’re there with kids – it’s a very different vibe, gorgeous, and totally worth checking out, as well as having the resort’s only huge hot tub
- download the Club Med app in advance – has all of the activity info daily and you can also find the dress-up themes in advance before you go
- dressing for themes is fun and makes you feel a sense of community, but even if you just bring somethings for the white night and black night those are the most dramatic
- bring sunscreen and floats/pool toys if you can – expensive to purchase there
- wish I had brought an old phone for my 10-year-old to use on the wifi – would have been nice to have him use a crappy old phone just for being able to message us about his ever-changing location
- if you befriend any GOs (or just see them wandering the dining hall solo) – invite them to join you! They’re all lovely and have fascinating stories to share about working at Club Med

Like everyone says, it’s the staff that makes the whole experience so special. Everyone treats you like family so everyone feels like part of a community. All of the languages spoken makes it feel international and exciting, and the fact that it’s not dominated by any one age group makes it feel more like a genuine village: lots of grandparents around on intergenerational trips (the best!), young babies, couples traveling adults-only, we even crossed paths a few times with two older couples traveling together and out-partying the twenty-somethings!

Love the Club Med spirit and can’t wait to go back. Big shout-out to Guillaume (head of leisure) and the Chief de Village Abdel who both clearly manage this place with kindness and care and it SHOWS with their enthusiastic, dedicated staff!

Making the choice to travel internationally throughout a global pandemic was not a decision that I made lightly. If it weren’t for the fact that I have had so many trips already canceled on me prior to going, I probably would have stayed stateside. But weighing the pros and the cons I realized traveling internationally is probably no safer than traveling domestically.
Originally I was supposed to go to Turks and Caicos’s however the Club Med resort there postpone their reopening due to France’s lock down and the fact that most of their clients are French. We made the choice to move our reservation to Punta Cana instead and we were very very very happy with that decision.
Not only were the staff so incredibly happy to see people back and to have their jobs once again, but the resort was in impeccable operation. The staff made sure that every inch was completely sterilized and they practically wash your hands for you the second you got in the van for the transfers. Once arriving at the resort you were briefed on what the new policies were and then taken to your room where there was a sealed piece of tape stating that your room had been sterilized. They requested that you wear masks inside every location and also sterilize your hands before entering any inside location other than that you was your choice if you chose to wear a mask outside or not. Every single staff member wore a mask regardless of where they were. Most of the activities were operating the way they would under normal circumstances. As it was my first time to any Club Med property I had nothing to compare it to but our experience was truly top notch. We went for my travel partner‘s 30th birthday celebration and they really did everything they could to make sure that he felt special. We met wonderful staff members including Adrian, Arturo and MichelleWho not only knew our names instantly but recognized us and made us feel like family during the rest of our stay. The food was wonderful and plentiful and the drinks certainly flowed. As the world is incredibly uncertain right now if you feel at all inclined to travel I highly highly recommend visiting Club in Med punta Cana for an amazing experience that you will have as a once in a lifetime opportunity. The resort is empty but they are fully staffed ready to wait on you hand and foot. The prices are currently great go now you won’t regret it!

We had a wonderful early June week at the Tiara section of Club Med Punta Cana. The room was a fantastic setup for young families, with separate bed and bathrooms for the kids and adults, indoor and outdoor private seating areas, breakfast delivered to your patio every morning, and almost best of all was our little cabana bed and location right next to the pool and center of Tiara. The Tiara was well worth it from our perspective as it not only gives you privacy and exclusive use of the infinity pool, bar, concierge and other amenities, but it is a little resort within a resort and by the end of the week it felt like we were among a group of friends and neighbors. It is very conducive to socializing and meeting other families, which was great for our kids, who made best friends for the week with the other kids in Tiara. The Tiara staff is wonderful too, with Christelle leading a great team of GOs (thank you Lupita, Maria and Jose especially for going out of your way to make our stay comfortable). Last, the Tiara puts on 3 or 4 dining/happy hour events a day so there is always a snack, meal or drink a few feet away as you're on the go. It was nice having a separate area to eat a few meals when we didn't feel like leaving the pool.

The rest of the resort is top notch as well. The food at Hispaniola was amazing, as was the trapeze, tennis, snorkeling, kayaking, other pools and everything else we did. The family group activities during the day seemed a little half-hearted, but that might have been because the resort didn't have many people in it (which was definitely a plus during COVID). Our kids had fun at the Kids Club -- the staff there are caring, energetic, good with kids and kind. I am a pretty competitive tennis player and found the tennis clinics to be great and instructive.

If you are worried about Covid issues, don't be. I was traveling with a very "careful" person when it comes to Covid and even she remarked that by the end of the week she had almost forgotten about it because the Club does such a good job of cleaning and making it easy to follow the rules. It was annoying to just be free of masks in the US and then have to wear them again, but you have to understand you're in a different country and not everyone is as fortunate to have as much vaccine access as we are.

I really can't say enough about Tiara, Club Med Punta Cana, and our perfect week down there. I can't wait to return to our next Club Med. We have done Cancun and now Punta Cana. We would happily return to either, or check out the next destination. Thank you for everything!

I highly recommend Club Med Punta Cana! My boyfriend and I just spent 5 days in the Zen Oasis, and it was the perfect escape! It was both our first experiences with Club Med (or any “all inclusive”) and although I’ve always been more of do it myself traveler, I think I drank my fill of the Club Med Cool Aid! We already have our next vacation booked with the whole family! The entire staff was so friendly, helpful and welcoming. From Ciara and Antoine and Valid at the Zen Oasis to the Chef d’Village Jean-Pierre and the Adam, the Assistant Chef D’Village and every bartender, server, chef, and maintenance person! It really felt like a family from the moment we arrived with tea and cool towels to laughter and hugs when we departed. There were issues (the AC in our room stopped working) but Ciara and Antoine went above and beyond to resolve the issue with the most expedience and least inconvenience to us, and double and triple checking to make sure everything was good once we got settled in our new room.

The resort itself is so beautiful! The beach is absolutely dreamy, and the rest of the grounds and facilities are kept meticulously clean. Having spent much time traveling and living in Europe for extended periods I loved the European feel to the resort, with the majority of the guests being French. It felt very cosmopolitan! I am a bit of a food snob, and having read a few conflicting reviews, I was overall pleasantly surprised at the quality and selection of food available. We had some really delicious meals and some that weren’t amazing, but they were far from bad by any means.

Although we did our fair share of relaxing on the beach with cocktails and swimming in the translucent aqua blue water, we also took the 1 hour snorkel trip to the reef right near the resort and it was absolutely worth the extra $35/pp. The reef was beautiful with lots of different variety of coral and so many different fish. We even saw a Manta Ray, Barracuda and a Sea Turtle.

Massages at the L’Occitan Spa in the cabanas on the beach were really lovely, but it would have been great if they could have taken off our Club Med wristbands during the treatment.

The theme parties at night were a blast! The French really know how to throw a good party and the GO’s at Punta Cana really know how to get the crowd hopping! Our favorites were the Beach Party and the White Party. So much fun!

I can’t wait for our next trip with the family where I plan on doing more of activities we didn’t do on this trip and repeating a few of those that we enjoyed the most!

We just got back (May 2021) into the United Sates and had an absolute blast! A family of three, two adults in their early 30’s and one 18 month old. This resort is literally one of the best resorts ever I’ve ever been to. It’s only 10 minutes from the airport which I was a bit concerned about but it’s not on the flight path so there is literally NO airport noise at all. The rooms could use a tiny bit of help as in the doors need to be replaced and could use new curtains on a few windows but the bed was super comfy, the shower was really nice and was spacious. The staff are truly friendly and seriously work their butts off maintaining this place. Their hard work definitely shows! We felt like they thought of everything if you have your baby or toddler with you. They have three baby specific areas, the baby corner which has fresh made purées, cereal, milk, yogurts and snacks. The baby room is a locked room that you have to request access to. You can clean your bottles and they have a sterilizer too. They keep all kinds of milks there too for you to use for your baby/toddler. (Whole, 2% and lactose free) Lastly, they have the baby club which is optional and comes at an additional cost. It’s basically a fun daycare just for children ages 4 months - 23 months. They were super friendly and my daughter who has never been in daycare LOVES IT! The staff is super knowledgeable and friendly and the facility is very clean. The beaches are cleaned every day which was nice with all the seaweed that was washing up. The pool was great and seat selection was always good. We loved our archery lessons and did the speed boat excursion. It was a blast and I highly recommend it! Some of the best snorkeling I’ve ever done, only second to Hawaii. The food was delicious but I was a little disappointed at the limited time the main dining room was open. Overall, it was a great time and we will definitely be back!

I am almost never compelled to write a negative review before the but the number of problems we've had with club med has been so unbelievable I had to warn people away.

First the baby club. I called the resort twice to make sure it would work for us before reserving but the information was highly inaccurate. I believe this is because of the language barrier. My son 11 months, is still nursing I wanted to make sure I could have in and out access. I only wanted to leave him there for a few hours a day but after seeing the set up (it's just a bunch of babies crying in a room) I felt very uncomfortable leaving him in there for even that long. I dropped him off for 45 minutes in the morning on the first day. Despite telling no less than 5 different people I planned to drop him off for a similar amount of time in the afternoon I was not able to do so when I tried to they said there was no drop off. So much for in and out access. On top of that the level of care was not meeting my expectations. When we complained the resort made us jump through hoops to get a refund even though we booked directly through club med (they have some bizarre system where the staff has to write you a letter then you have to call club med then email them the letter). After all those hoops they only offered a partial refund and deducted $234 dollars for the one day we used? So I guess I have the honour of my son officially having the worlds most expensive hour of babysitting.

Second our room and the housekeeping so many issues. Despite requesting times for the housekeeping they only came during my sons nap. The only bad time. If we ask them to come back later they never do. This was made so much worst by the fact that are room had a horrible LEAK which at this time (3 days in) is still not repaired. We have to line the floor with our towels every morning because of the huge puddle. The repair person has come 3 times but every night it leaks again and make a huge mess. So the room is dirty and very damp all the time. Also we did pay to upgrade our room to the deluxe room.

The last thing I will add which is maybe minor is that even though we paid extra for the premium wifi the wifi connection is terrible. I wrote this review offline because I couldn't get a connection.

Well this is a first. My family and I have been to four Club Meds over seven different trips. This will be my only bad review. The experience has been a great disappointment.

First the good.:

As usual the GO’s made every effort to create an enjoyable experience.

The rooms in the Oasis were great. Well appointed and decorated. Although not really well arranged in the dressing area.

Now the disappointing:

The worst restaurant experience at any Club Med or any all inclusive for that matter.

The food mediocre at best. Extremely repeated and limited. Not the culinary experience we are used to at the Clubs.

What ever you do bring your own bottled water, even if your lucky enough to get your first glass, don’t expect a second no matter how much you beg.

Food was often served cold or well past its serving prime. Much of the crackers or chips were stale.

Tried to get my cloths washed for three days, each day I was told something different. “Leave outside door” “Leave on bed” “Leave on bed, call front desk”. I personally watched the desk call and advise of my laundry, and yet it was never picked up on three separate days. I finally took wet smelly clothes home.

God forbid you might want more the two towels or a wash cloth. Had to call every day if not twice to get towels . Still two day I could not get them. Had to use wet towels.

Do not come during May or June, turns out they have a nasty seaweed problem. We never did get to get into the ocean. Not really Club Meds issue just stating the fact.

What frustrated me the most was the complete lack of management of any of the hotel functions. Clearly they need help at this resort.

We had a wonderful time in Punta Cana, we enjoyed every second of it. We stayed in the Zen oasis with a room with a terrace, it was clean, spacious, bright and modern. It was also quiet and peaceful, we’ll surely make this choice again should we go back there. The pool was amazing, the beach was wonderful, white sand, palm trees, turquoise water.... yes, even better than what you can imagine especially after 1 year of pandemy. We felt totally safe throughout the week with regards to social distancing, cleanliness, masks etc. the staff was wonderfully trained. Club med organized even a test on site version club med to allow us to fly back to Chicago in the best conditions. Food was good and cocktails even better. Last but not the least the GOs were simply amazing, proactive, professional. A Big thank you to Marjorie for the wonderful welcome and customer experience throughout the week. Thanks to Berson for the fun aquagym, the step with Kim, the Pilates with Melanie etc and all the others. You all rock!!! The evening shows from the cirque du soleil were amazing. Congrats to Sebastian, Gaby, Michal and all the others. Merci a Boris et toute l’equipe. We really experienced a personalized vacation, wonderful job. We enjoy the fact that many of the GOs came and have lunch with us throughout the week, nice people, not pushy, just the right behaviors and attitude. First time in club med and there will be many others. If you like to play golf, go and play in la cana and corales, it’s expensive but you won’t regret it. We just leave once! Snorkeling was not the best spot , padel was fun. Will miss the punta cana dance with all of you and will keep it a long time in my memories. We are now back in Chicago and ready to go back to work, thanks to all of you, it was simply beyond our expectations.

This was our first time visiting a Club Med. Overall the experience was very positive and our week just flew by. During our stay, our room was located at the far end of the resort in the adults-only area, Zen Oasis. This location was perfect for what we were looking for with a large pool area + bar and within a five-minute walk to the beach. Never once did we have an issue getting a beach chair at either place. The room itself was clean but as other reviewers have pointed out they could use a refresh as they are starting to show their wear and tear. The food quality and selection are very good. I particularly enjoyed the bread + dessert tables. The atmosphere around the resort is laid back. Having stayed at other resorts in and around the Carribean, Club Med is better than most and it has a lot to do with their staff and their positive attitude. A few that stuck out where, Smiley ( Archery), Fritznel ( Oasis bar), Pierre-Jean + Laurent (Village Chiefs) and last but not least India at the excursions desk who on our first day resolved a difficult situation with an excursion we booked like a true professional who understood our concerns and provided us with a resolution with a smile on her face. This is what customer service and satisfaction are all about. Merci India. If you are looking for a vacation to unwind and recharge your batteries Club Med Punta Cana is the place.

This is our second time at Club Med Punta Cana and it didn’t disappoint. We were meant to go to Miches this time but the opening was delayed so we got to go back to Punta Cana which is probably easier with little ones, as very close to the airport ( 5 min ride).
We stayed at the Tiara exclusive space, in a stunning suite overlooking the Caribbean Sea, spotting turtles swimming in front of our room everyday.
Beaches are beautiful, sports and fitness amazing, and the food is delicious.
The childcare is outstanding and helps you to relax and truly enjoy your holiday. They make you feel like your children are so special and at the same time gives them the best time of their life. They really go above and beyond, I got so emotional when we received personalised goodbye notes under our door the day before we left.
We travelled with a very active 8-year old boy who loves trapeze, treasure hunts, pool and sweets. A million thanks to Dims, Toto and Frandy from the Miniclub for their incredible patience and enthusiasm.
The baby club was amazing too, they are so well-organised and on top of things, you leave your little one in complete peace of mind. My 23-months old daughter was so happy to stay there every morning. Nana and the staff (Steph, Jeanette and Sarah) are very passionate.
We will keep all of them, as well Melanie ( the uplifting fitness teacher from ‘the most beautiful gym in the world’), the GOs from the Trapeze (Arcadi, Miguel and Sandra), and of the Watersports (Jules and Momar) with such fond memories.
The restaurant staff are also super friendly and forthcoming, in particular Hewin and Gisela. Honestly you want to tip all of them although it didn’t seem common practice so hope this review will ensure they are properly recognised!
Big thanks to Christelle, the brilliant manager of the Tiara space, who ensured we had a smooth arrival, departure, and many relaxing moments in between.
In summary, a truly magical week for the whole family, even in times of covid. Club Med ensured everyone was and felt safe by checking guests’ temperature in restaurants and asking them to wear a mask in closed spaces, while all the staff had to wear masks all the time, which given the hot weather m must be though, but they do it with the biggest smile!
We feel so fortunate we were able to have this high energy break considering all that is happening in the rest of the world at the same time, it did feel like a dream!

They give you a wifi code when you arrive. We had premium wifi, when everyone is on it, it tends to slow down. I’m not sure if the hotel offers baby monitors, I know you can hire a babysitter. I wish I had more answers to your questions. All the best!

One tank dive is around $86 USD and includes springsuit and equipment. Equipment was in good shape. We brought our own masks. We did a 60 ft drift dive to an old US Navy Tug that was sunk to make a reef. There was a total of 4 of us with 1 guide. Dive depths and sites seem to vary depending on what day it is, I’m assuming it’s based on how many people they have and their experience. The staff seem very accommodating so letting them know what you want they should be able to work with you. Generally I got the sense they aren’t very busy so there’s a good chance it won’t be a big group. 2 tank dives are on Wednesday mornings. Other days it was 8:30am and then again at 10:30. Hope that helps.

Hi Mel, thanks for the question. Beds (and pillows) were super comfortable and room looked like new. We stayed in the Zen Oasis adult-only section, so can only comment on these rooms, would not know re the standard rooms. Hope this helps ☺️
