1959 - NOMINAL ROLL - 1994 Listed below are the names of the Band members who served from the formation of the 1st Bn The Royal Highland Fusiliers on 20th January 1959 until the Band
was finally 'disbanded' and those remaining were "absorbed" into what became the Lowland Band of The Scottish Division on 15th March 1994.
The Lowland Band was subsequently amalgamated with the Highland Band, becoming the Regimental Band of The Royal Regiment of Scotland upon the formation of the Regiment (RRS) in 2006.
Sadly, from each of the Scottish Infantry Regiments once being able to field their 'own' bands AND Pipes & Drums - and in the case of 1 RHF, a separate Bugle section - 'inherited' from the 'Light Infantry' days of one of our antecedent regiments (The Highland Light Infantry) was always also 'on parade' - there now remains only ONE band for the whole of Scotland, with a strength of 'around' 35 members - none of whom would have served with ALL the antecedent bands - The Royal Scots Fusiliers, The Highland Light Infantry, The Royal Highland Fusiliers, The Lowland Band of The Scottish Division AND The Royal Regiment of Scotland during their careers.
With the exception of Bandmasters, the names are not strictly in "time or dates of service" order.
Apologies in advance for any omissions. As this section is
LOCKED to prevent unauthorised changes, if you know of anyone who
should be included,
please advise me, or alternatively another moderator, or site administrator by using the

Of all those pictured, only 11 of them continued their service by being 'amalgamated' into 1RHF . D WELLS CORNET Those highlighted in red are NOT on the photo below which was taken several months later (March/April?) in 1959 due to postings, demobs, etc. between the formation date and the photo date. However, there are a few additions in the photo, who were not listed as being present on the formation date, so joined AFTER January 1959(An example of that being Archie Grierson who served with the HLI Band, was demobbed, wasn't present on the First Muster, but REJOINED the army in around March 1959 and features in the photo, but not the First Muster.)
Possibly one of the first photographs of the Regimental Band taken in 1959, shortly after the amalgamation of The Royal Scots Fusiliers and The Highland Light Infantry,
the antecedent regiments which formed The Royal Highland Fusiliers. The photograph was taken in Redford Barracks. (Photograph courtesy of John (Ginger) Blaikie)Another photograph of The Regimental Band taken in Glasgow during a KAPE tour in 1984 - 25 years after the one above. Note the significant reduction in numbers.
