I am so excited to present those new pictures, I am waging my tail!

Hello everyone in here! I have shocking and beautiful pictures
of Quarter number III. If you like we will take a tour around:
Image

Isn`t this shocking how far we are?

Look at the clouds!
Image

This is the Steuben Platz called square. Look at all the cranes! Happy!

"Acht Ecken Kreutzung" intersection. Look: All that cloud cover is almost gone!
That`s a good sign, don`t you think?

The buildings are already pretty without décor. What simple design rules can do!
No need to reinvent the wheel:

Thank you, Mantikor! Thanks

The SPSG, or as I call the knowingly wrongfully "the Parks and Gardens association"
has taken ownership of the Villa Liegnitz. Liegnitz is right by Sans Souci Park.
Tucked in a corner with ten other villas.
The SPSG is renovating and restoring the building and its garden back to the
design of 1910. SPSG, that is the Government organization that runs most
parks and castles as well as 100`s of other buildings here in Potsdam, Berlin
and elsewhere. They take care of former royal connected properties.
They own a lot here in Potsdam!

So, this villa is getting restored:
Image

Original build in 1841 for Mrs. Augusta, Count of Liegenitz. She was the second wife
of King Friedrich Wilhelm III. The king had died the year before. The building was
extended two times. The build is kept in Italian style.
The fourth born son of the last Kaiser lived in here until 1945.
Adolf Hitler also stayed for dinner in 1933.
The building was used last as a laboratory by the university.
This caused severe damage due to long and a massive amount
of pipes and cables:
Image

Six layers of lead paint have to be removed in hazmat suits before works was able to take off.
The building over his shoulder:
Image

The villa is very big. There will be offices for 70 staff. The SPSG will use the
building for themselves. The building will see many reconstructions!
All the stucco, all the details, all the original window designs!
Here the door coming from the garden:
Image

What is so interesting are the planes for the large garden: The garden will be
reconstructed as well, but also opened up towards Park Sans Souci,
meaning that passerby will think the Park goes on and on with those Villas
in it! Like it used to be.
Here a "Stibadiums" in the Garden. A "Stibadiums" is a sitting unit made out of
stone. A lust building so to speak, just there for good looks.
This one belongs to the Villa and is currently be worked on:

This is the current platform on top of the Garrison Church:

The red is still coming:

and the locals are starting to be proud.
This shopping bag from a local grocer has the Garrison Church tower already in his
logo. The store also donates 10 cents for each sold bag:

Thanks, Konstantindegeer and Graf Cylinar! Perfect!
I thought the red meant those parts hadn't been funded yet, because if red means they are coming this means more hope for construction, if not funded, well I'm deeply afraid they may not be due to the current controversial(ness) of the build in the first place, (something I feel to be unnecessary).

From what I've read, the top part of the tower was constructed with wood and then clad in metal. If so, then the construction will be of a different sort than the lower part of the tower. We'll see.

The Garrison Church if you can get behind the plastic covering it..
I got a treat for you and everyone else! Hello robertwood, how is it hanging?
How would you like it if I invite you and everyone else to walk around inside
the construction zone? Inside the church in the making?
That is possible again. Here is the newest link to a virtual construction tour!
Please scroll down a little and click what looks like a video.
No German needed:

That is correct. You got it right!
A crane will lift the top up.

Great, that's puts the top part to rest.

I need help! Big time!

Hello everyone in here and welcome back to Potsdam!

I hope the all of you can really help me out.
I got a pile of pictures and I need help looking at all of them.
You think we can do that? Let`s do this together.

We are back at the downtown Quarter number III:

Some investors use that gray grumble stone, with air bubbles.
Others use large brick out of clay with air pockets. The reddish ones.
I prefer the clay ones. Clay regulates air moisture:

With help of Spreetunnel, thank you!

Great link. Are the metal stairs inside the tower part of the construction work scaffolding or are these stair systems the final design and material?

Wasn't there a page on Skyscrapercity for the Garisonkirche? I saw some posts that had pictures of the ornamentation of the Garisonkirche; where the old was incorporated into the new. How were pieces saved. Did individual people save pieces after the war and before demolition, or were they collected from ruin heaps outside the cities?

I actually wish was a page for the Garnisonkirche, and the Stadtschloss, as they're works of art on their own, rather than lumping everything under Rekos in Potsdam. I do believe though, that items were saved after the demolition, although most definitely not in good shape and unable to be reused.

Welcome to our Thread Prussian Koenigsberg! Hope you feel right at home!

The magic key we hold is with the Federal Government! "BUND" in short!
Not only the Federal Government is almost every time pro reconstruction,
not only that, but the BUND is also helping out this time.
They are doing the same thing they did at the Berlin Stadt Schloss
reconstruction: They guarantee the contractors to get money.
Means that even if not enough donations comes together in time,
the contractors will get their money, guaranteed by the Federal Government.
Experiences show that a lot of donations come together just
with the last finishing touches. Experiences also show,
that the Feds almost never have to pay for anything.
It is just a ensuring thing for the contractors to get started.
That is what happened here two months ago.
The contractors are getting started!

Something different. Here a nice little project
not too far away. The building is new
and is used by several businesses.
Many projects in Potsdam are kept in local spirit:
Image

only the name of the project seems off: "Palais Ritz" It is not a Palais.

Thanks, Mantikor.

Location is in the "Berliner Vorstadt". That is close to the Glienicker bridge
and Park Glienicke.

We stay in the same erea.
The Glienicker Bruecke bridge and the space around is
also getting closer and closer to it`s original shape.
We reported in this Thread.
After finally fixing the columns and reconstructing
the stairs at it`s base left and right, we now finally see the
pavers replaced. The 1970`s concrete pavers took
a lot from its curb appeal away.
Still no news if we get the lion statues holding up the
bridge back:
Image

The lions used to be on those stone bases left and right.
This is the BUND 1, Germanies number one highway.
Used to be called Reichs Strasse 1. We are standing here
on the former East German side, west Germany is on the other side.
This bridge is the former "Bridge of Spies":
Image

The bridge is the official gate between Berlin and Potsdam.
Surrounded by seven Parks and six Castles in direct neighborhood.
Here the works changing the pavers:
Image

Konstantindegeer. Thank you very much for your pictures!

Not far away from the Bridge of Spies is
our Norwegian Village. The constructions
are winding down, the buildings are slowly finished.
The Sailor Houses and the Captain House are finished.
Please, take a look:

Image

The "Boats house":
Image

The fencing was seen as a must, but they did not wanted
to cut the landscape too much:
Image

Another sailors house. The houses are for rent:
Image

Image

The so called Vente Hall. The cubical is new and houses the kitchen.
The Kongsnaes called project had started with this complete reconstruction:
Image

The restaurant comes with its own docking for boats. The Kaisers private yacht
used to be stored here. The area is today pricy. Here some pictures more:
Image

The roof is out of wood shingles, too:
Image

TheNorwegian inspiration is also gone and no more. But I have been hearing
that the Norwegians are also eying an reconstruction of that former
restaurant.

Thanks, Mantikor.

Locals are starting to joke around that Potsdam is slowly
having more restaurants then cars!

Probably it was a family owned house, like Schloss Friedrichstein in East Prussia.
