New population figures released

Hertford's population has increased by 1% over the last twelve months, according to data released by the ONS this week.

The Office of National Statistics updates it's figures annually for each of the country's Middle Layer Super Output Areas (MSOA). These areas are similar to electoral wards and used for statistical purposes by a range of government agencies.

Hertford's population is currently estimated to be 29,729, up by 390 from the mid-2019 estimate of 29439.

The town is made up of four statistical areas that match the four wards of Sele, Bengeo, Castle and Kingsmead. The population and change for each is:

Sele 5784, up 91 (1.6%) from 5693
Bengeo 8106, up 17 (0.2%) from 8089
Castle 9841, up 67 (0.7%) from 9674
Kingsmead 5998, up 15 (0.3%) from 5983
