Not much happening but still nice
We wandered through here on the evening of May 18th, 2022 (a Wednesday). I had written down that this was a popular place to go and it was really nice but not much was happening (considering it was only Wednesday, not terribly surprising). The buildings were quite nice, almost all of them being red, aside from the visitor's center, which had a beautiful tan facade. I'm sure on weekends and/or the summer, this place is more lively but for a non-summer non-weekend day, I would pass.

    Chill and people watch
Went during Holy Week time. But great spot to chill anytime of the year. Nice restaurant options although as a tourist just meeting with friends and taking pics was an event in its own lol. Great starting point I would say.

    Lovely square and not pestered
We wandered through this lovely square, did some shopping and ate at one of the restaurants. Not very expensive and I thought we would have our pants pulled down being in the main square but we weren't't. A few people playing instruments and a few beggars but we personally weren't pestered.

Famous place to visit in Madrid
This is a quintessential place to see in Madrid. It can be very busy in the day with tour groups etc. It use to have famous old bars and shops but it has become very touristy. Still you need to see it and spend 30 minutes or so. Lots of places to eat nearby and lots of shops to do your souvenir shopping done.

    Madrid's Central Plaza
This was a nice location we visited both on a busy crowded Sunday afternoon and on a deserted morning. Beautiful architecture and many opportunities to sit and eat or drink at cafes. We enjoyed walking through and down the local streets in the less crowded early morning hours.

    Paw-some!
What can Cherry Wonderdog say about Plaza Mayor that hasn’t been said by other travel critics? Perhaps in canine it would appear as “Sniff sniff Ah, Plaza Mayor was paw-some! From exploring new scents to wagging my tail at picturesque sights, it had my tail wagging with excitement. The barksome architecture and delicious scenery made me feel like a top dog. I give it five paws up! Woof woof!”

    Busy but Beautiful City Center
Our tour guide took us for tapas and some beverages and honestly the place felt surreal. Although it is considered a tourist hub, the place was still enjoyable. I’m glad we followed the Madrid Trip Planners travel plan because it was relatively less crowded than expected. There are also some hidden gems that our trip planner Erkut introduced us to, which made the experience much much better. I would definitely recommend Erkut from Madrid Trip Planners for anyone wanting to enjoy their trip to its potential, he knows all the great tour guides.

The Plaza Mayor or Town Square is an open public square in the centre of Madrid, Spain. It was first built in the fifteen century during the reign of Philip III. Today it is a popular place for tourist.

    The Main Square.
The Plaza Mayor can be considered to be the main square in central Madrid. Whenever visting Madrid, you'll get here in one way or in another. The square's history goes back to 1576, although the plaza in it’s current appearance was built in the late 18th century. The square is rectangular in shape, 129 by 94 meters and is surrounded by 4-storey residential houses with commercial areas, bars and restaurants on the ground floor. There is a bronze statue of King Philip III in the center of the square.

    Madrid’s most famous plaza
Madrid’s grand central square is found in the oldest part of the city. Plaza Mayor was built on the former Plaza del Arrabal, where Madrid’s most popular market was held till the late 16th century. I made two visits here, one was during the day, and the other at 11PM, which was my last night in Spain.

Plaza Mayor is a lively and picturesque square that was once home to bull fights. Today it is surrounded by one large rectangular building. It has several ports at which to enter the plaza. The first floor is lined with restaurants and shops. The upper floors are either businesses or residents, but are not accessible, at least not that I could find. There is a huge statue in the middle. The plaza is used for things such as Christmas Markets and performances. While we were there in early November they were preparing for the Christmas Markets that would open later that month. It's beautiful and certainly a must see in Madrid. FYI, things open late in Spain. Some restaurants don't open until 1 pm for lunch. Most of the shops don't open until 11 am or later. Not to worry because nearby is Mercado San Miguel which opens early and maybe he best food hall I have ever visited.

The Plaza Mayor of Madrid has been playing a social role that dates back to the Middle Ages, that is, an extraordinary space for social interaction. The "plaza mayor" comes from urban planning that combines living in society with beauty and magnificence. They are very similar and have themselves and in the various cities in which they were built. In essence, they are large open spaces in part and protected from sun and rain in another, with the construction of colonnades and balconies. The Plaza Mayor in Madrid is really big and it is the biggest of all. It was built by Philippe III in 1620 and in addition to fulfilling the role of increasing self-esteem and civic splendour, it is now a symbol of Madrid. Because it is essentially a large quadrilateral enclosed in its perimeter, it is a great stage over time for popular festivals, religious festivities, real events and military triumphs. People come together to talk, eat and drink in bars and cafes, as well as to enjoy open-air theatre, concerts and art exhibitions and book fairs. Most events in this square take place on weekends or festive seasons. In the centre of the square you can admire the statue of Philip III, a monarch far ahead of his time.

My stay was simply amazing.
The hotel is in a great location and you can reach everything on foot.
The staff took great care of us and was super prepared regarding the healthy and safety procedures. Everybody was wearing the mask and hand sanitizer was always available.
The SPA is super new and we enjoyed a treatment there (highly recommended)
The style of the hotel is very edgy and for us the best part was the rooftop pool with a breathtaking view over the city.
We will certainly return there next time in town.

Come here to be part of this open square. People gathering around this plaza to sun bathe, people watch or to eat at nice expensive cafe restaurants. There is a tourist information center here for your questions. Lots of panhandling for your euros from “free gifts” to take a photo with costume performers. Come here and enjoy the scene

This plaza is enclosed by buildings on all four sides, most of which have interesting architecture as well as a bronze statue in the center. What is not pleasing about this plaza is the number of people dressed in character costumes trying to have a photo taken with you in exchange for a gratuity. I understand people need to make a living, just wish it was a culturally aligned means of doing so.

Early December 2019.

One of the prettiest open spaces in Spain. A gorgeous combination of imposing architecture, historical tales and vibrant street life. Grand arcaded building’s surrounding it on all four sides. Hundreds of locals and visitors milking about. There’s always something going on , whether it’s an impromptu street performance or the holiday Christmas market.

My teenage son was very impressed in general with Madrid architecture and this building was one of his favorites. We had lunch and dinner there several times during our stay , prices are higher than other more authentic places and the menu it’s kind of repetitive across all restaurants but overall we have a great experience. The only downside is the beggars and the people trying to sell you random stuff inside the restaurant premises, it’s just weird and ruin the overall experience of the restaurant but you just have to ignore them and say a hard NO .

Generally best viewed if you sign up for one of the free walking tours so you can hear about the surrounding structures. Otherwise, it is basically the place you'll see the street performers and the city's homeless. The Christmas market is not any good compared to other european and even American cities. Go through on your way to somewhere else.

Plaza Mayor is a location you have to see when you visit Madrid. The sights and shops around there have some good souveniers, but I suggest you avoid eating here if you are after authentic Spanish tapas (as these dont have that)..

Grab a drink at one of the places in Plaza Mayor (be prepared to pay 2x or 3x times higher) and sit back and enjoy the experience.
