The camps are 90 minutes and provide students the option of learning in-person from Place des Arts or online from home via Zoom to suit your child’s learning preference. Most in-person classes will also have a volunteer in the classroom and there will always be a volunteer or staff member to take students from their first classroom to their second classroom. For students ages 5-7 and 8-12 registered for both the morning and afternoon in-person camps, there is the option to register for Camp Care from 12:00-12:45pm. Please see the camp grids on pages 10-21 for more details. Please refer to page 4 of this guide for important information regarding supply lists for these camps.

Hybrid Camp Tips for Online Students

What to Consider before Registering Before registering for any of our online camps, make sure you have a stable internet connection and your computer, tablet or smartphone has a microphone and camera. Students are encouraged to turn their video on to participate in the class, but it is not required. Please ensure your device is compatible with Zoom and that it is downloaded before the first class. You will need an account to participate. The Zoom meeting information to access the class will be sent to you via email after registration.

Make your Zoom experience a success Please review the following instructions for the best online experience: Test out Zoom: Call a family member or a friend to see how it works and to try out its features. Lighting: Sit in an area with a lot of light. Face the light source so you are not in shadow.

6

Location: Find a spot in your home with a good internet connection where you won’t be interrupted. Ask your family members to avoid streaming during the class as it can slow your internet down. Your device: Close other programs on your device and position it in a spot where its easy for your teacher to see you. If you are in a performing arts class, the teacher will need to see your movements. Your device should be stationary and not handheld during the classes. Sign-in to Zoom: Be sure to join your class at least 5 minutes before the start of your class in case there are issues connecting. Please make sure that your name is listed as the student’s name (not parent/guardian or the device name). This will ensure you will be invited into the online classroom from the Zoom Waiting Room.

Zoom Waiting Room: To ensure safety and security, all Place des Arts’ online classrooms are password-protected. When you join a class, you will automatically enter a waiting room. Once we confirm you are a registered student, we will admit you into the online classroom.

Online Etiquette and Help To ensure camp is enjoyable for both teachers and students, there are some considerations to keep in mind when participating in an online class, such as muting your mic, holding up your hand or using the chat to ask questions. For more information and for help with operation of the application, please view our Zoom Guide. If you need further help with Zoom, we recommend contacting the company directly through their Help Centre to fix any issues.

Camp Behaviour Policy • Special Needs & Health Concerns

It is our goal for your child(ren) and other children attending Place des Arts’ camps to have the best experience possible in a warm and welcoming environment. To promote consistent expectations around behaviour among students, we have established the “FISH” policy. We recommend reviewing the FISH policy with your child(ren) prior to camp.

F

= Follow instructions

I

= Include everyone

S

= Show respect

H

= Help each other

If any child has difficulty meeting our behaviour expectations, we will execute the following four-step plan: 1. Verbal warning: Our first response will be a verbal intervention to help the child understand P L AC E D ES ARTS 20 2 1 S UM M ER G UI D E

the impact their behaviour is having on others.

Special Needs and Health Concerns

2. Time out: If the behaviour continues, the child will be removed from the program for a time out. The child’s parent/guardian will be notified of the incident and will be asked to review the behaviour policy with their child.

• Prior to the start of your child(ren)’s camp, please advise Place des Arts staff of any health concerns, including food allergies or special needs, that your child(ren) may have if they are attending camp in-person. This helps to ensure a successful experience. Please update the Medical Alert section on your child(ren)’s account with any relevant information or email us at summercamp@placedesarts.ca.

3. Parent pick up: If the behaviour still continues, the parent/guardian will be contacted and asked to pick their child immediately with the child missing the rest of the day. 4. Student dismissal: A student may be dismissed if their behaviour precludes safe and effective participation in our programs. Dismissal will take effect only after a consultation occurs between the parent/guardian, child, program staff and Place des Arts’ Executive Director. No refunds will be given.

• Parents/guardians are responsible for administering any medications required by the student. Although our staff members have First Aid training, they cannot administer medication, except for an EpiPen, in the case of an emergency. Please email us at summercamp@ placedesarts.ca if your child has an EpiPen.

Note: Place des Arts has the discretion to dismiss a student immediately under appropriate circumstances. 9
