Editorial Reviews
Universal Music Enterprises is proud to announce the soundtrack album of exclusive a cappella mash-ups and medleys from Universal Pictures' Pitch Perfect, a musical comedy about the cutthroat world of college music competitions.
"We wanted to remain current as well as bring back some classic songs that might not have been heard in a while," explains Julianne Jordan, one of the soundtrack producers and one of the film's executive music producers. "It's a pretty eclectic mix, with several different genres and time periods represented. The mash-ups take the movie to another level."
"We only used songs that creatively work a cappella," says soundtrack producer and the film's other executive music producer Julia Michels. "There were no instruments involved at all."
The album's exclusive mash-ups include the film's The Barden Bellas combining Ace of Base's "The Sign" and La Roux's "Bulletproof," as well as Bruno Mars' "Just the Way You Are (Amazing)" and Nelly's "Just a Dream." The movie's Treblemakers perform a medley of Cee Lo Green's "Bright Lights Bigger City" and B.o.B's "Magic" along with a medley that combines Ace of Base's "The Sign" and Bangles' "Eternal Flame." The finale features a gala mash-up of Jessie J's "Price Tag," Simple Minds' "Don t You Forget About Me," Pitbull's "Give Me Everything," Bruno Mars' "Just the Way You Are (Amazing)," Miley Cyrus' "Party in the USA" and Gloria Estefan's "Turn the Beat Around."
The film's original medleys include "Ladies of the 80s" (Toni Basil's "Mickey," Madonna's "Like a Virgin" and Pat Benatar's "Hit Me With Your Best Shot") and "Songs About Sex" (Rihanna's "S&M," Salt N' Pepa's "Let s Talk About Sex," Boyz II Men's "I ll Make Love to You," Foreigner's "Feels Like the First Time" and Blackstreet's "No Diggity"). Roc Nation singer/songwriter/co-star Ester Dean (Rihanna, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige, R. Kelly, Britney Spears, Lil Wayne) and co-star Skylar Astin join together for a newly arranged soundtrack version of Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone," while star Anna Kendrick does a solo turn on the Internet viral sensation "Cups," originally performed by J. E. Mountaineers and Lulu and the Lampshades. There are also covers by the Treblemakers of Rihanna's "Don t Stop the Music" and The Dazz Band's "Let It Whip," while promising new artist My Name Is Kay is a featured performer on a cover of Flo Rida's "Right Round."

See iTunes, if u loose internet connection in the middle of the down load, or your power goes out, or you get a new computer you have to buy the song all over again, trust me, I experienced that huge problem with iTunes MORE THAN ONCE.
Where as Amazon is awesome cause it's all on your account, so you just log in and it's there, and it shows that you payed the $1 for it so it's yours. Even if you get a new phone, or iPod, or loose internet connection or whatever... your logged it, it's your account you payed for it, its all leagle, and it's yours, for like EVER. :D And (like I said above) if you loose internet connection you can retry the download unlike iTunes :D
In my own PERSONAL opinion I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMEND you download songs, and buy songs from Amazon.com verses buying it on iTunes. c:
Good stuff first. There are a number of performances which sound like they are pretty much the same as in the movie, including the wonderful final performances of the Trebles and the Bellas. Several of the tracks are clearly different, but some of these are great additions. Some of the performances are extended. And "Since You've Been Gone," used to amusing effect for the movie in the audition montage, has been rescored and recorded as a duet between Ester Dean and Skylar (?) [Sorry, last name is escaping me]. This is a terrific performance--one of the best tracks on the CD.
But some of the changes aren't so good. Someone else has already commented on the different version of "No Diggity," which I also find annoying. I really preferred that rather more raw version from the movie. And the addition of treble (as in almost certainly female) voices to the extended version of Right Round was a very bad decision. The falsetto voices are nasal and whiney--they sound like nothing quite as much as the Chipmunk's version of this song. And frankly, I object to female voices being added to a performance by the all-male Treblemakers. (Yes, I know they added a male base voice to the Ballas for the finale, but that's part of the story of the movie, and thus forgivable).
However, the thing I really, really dislke about this CD is the final track. In common, I imagine, with most people who loved the music from this movie, I bought a CD to listen to People Making Music With Their Mouths. The final track is an *instrumental* track (and frankly, not a very good one). I have yet to make it all the way through listening to this track. I always end up reaching out and skipping back to the beginning of the CD.
This is even more irritating in light of what is *not* on the CD. What about the terrific performance by the Hullabahoos? What about the performance by the group with the underaged kid (can't recall the name they gave the group)? Even the sock puppets would have been preferable. And I'd love to have had a recording of the amusing vocal rendition of the studio's theme which opened the movie.
So I rate this CD as a pretty seriously flawed masterpiece.
