There is some recommended over-the-counter diarrhea medication to treat dog diarrhea. Drugs such as Imodium would be effective in treating dog diarrhea. However, the drug has some restrictions you are to note before giving it to your dog. Apart from Imodium, there are some other safe and effective herbs that you can give your dog to help with dog diarrhea, herbs that help speed up the dog’s recovery, either its acute or long-standing diarrhea. Some of these herbs include:
- Slippery Elm [5]
- L-Glutamine [6]
- Marshmallow root
You can also prepare a mixed recipe of equal portions of slippery elm powder, fructo-oligosaccharide powder FOS and L-Glutamine powder.
Conclusion
Diarrhea in dogs is mostly mild cases and may result from your dog eating something it won’t be able to digest or an abrupt change in the dog’s diet. However, if you notice any out of the ordinary symptoms in your dog or the diarrhea is only getting more serious, you should immediately see your vet doctor. The earlier you treat the dog, the better it is for the dog. If you cannot visit the doctor, you can still apply some of the above home remedies until you do.
