In this virtual lecture we discuss the discovery of tea and its impact on history as early as the 1600’s. We will discuss how tea impacted England, the East India Company, the Townshend Revenue Act, the Boston Massacre, the Tea Act of 1773, and of course let’s not forget the Boston Tea Party. Also discussed will be the Intolerable Act, smugglers, and financial, technological and agricultural innovation, all brought about because of a simple cup of whole leaf tea!

Danielle Beaudette, proprietor of The Cozy Tea Cart, has been selling high quality teas for over two decades. During that time she has also researched the history of tea and tea wares. Danielle has a special interest in the history of tea and its ceremonies, and considers herself a student in her quest for knowledge on tea. She is continually doing research on tea in an effort to stay up to date with the current information and trends. As a Specialty Tea Institute member, Danielle receives regular industry reports and has access to a number of the tea industry’s information sources.

Danielle was one of the first 15 individuals in the United States to be certified as a Tea Specialist, in Levels 1-3, through the Specialty Tea Institute, NY. To date she has completed over 70 tea seminars at the World Tea Expo. The invaluable information she has learned in the seminars and from tradesmen provides her with insights on the current trends of the tea industry, knowledge of the latest studies on the health benefits of tea, and a better understanding of how to manage a tea business. She has researched and learned first-hand about the production of tea through her Asian tea travels and relationships with Chinese, Indian, Sri Lankan, Japanese, Nepalese, and Taiwanese tea growers.

Danielle sources only the finest, high quality, freshly imported teas, regularly earning awards for “Best of NH” by NH Magazine, Best of Souhegan Valley, and Best of Greater Nashua. Just as important as the quality of her tea, she promotes excellence in service and makes educating customers about tea a priority

The Discovery of Tea and the Boston Tea Party with Danielle Beaudette, is part of the Westford Museum  2023 Winter Program Series recognizing the 25oth Anniversary the Boston Tea Party (Destruction of the Tea) at Boston Harbor December 16, 1774. It is estimated that hundreds took part in the Boston Tea Party and on of those patriot’s was Westford’s Capt. Joseph Read. Learn more about Capt. Read here.
