Generalfeldmarschall Paul Ludwig Hans Anton von Beneckendorff und von Hindenburg was a high-ranking Imperial German officer who disagreed with General Ludendorff's plan to sabotage the impending armistice which would end World War I, insisting that Germany had lost and that further fighting would only cost German lives. For his outspoken opinions, von Hindenburg was gassed along with several other naysayers on Ludendorff's staff by the ambitious Ludendorff and Dr. Poison.

Awards[]

  • Pour le Mérite with Oak Leaves
  • Grand Cross of the Iron Cross

Notes[]

  • The actual von Hindenburg survived the war to become Chancellor of Germany, dying on the 2nd August 1934.
  • In the film's credits, his surname is misspelled as "von Hindenberg." Nancy Holder's novelization of the film uses the correct spelling of "von Hindenburg."
